Open letter to my friends (and anyone else who wants to read it) about Boats

Thank you for posting this very well thought out and respectful guide. I am a new player and totally assumed that asking for help is bad (as in real life, I like to be independent). I was aghast to hear that some people were "annoyed" (not the right word but not really sure of the best one) that people filled their own orders without asking for help. I had NO idea that it was almost expected that you open a few crates. Especially because I have very few friends yet, I always worry that when I do this my crates will go unfilled and I will have to send the boat away half-done. However, I have been making an effort to trust my neighbours and leave a few crates open and they have always been filled. I still always have my machines running to try to fill them myself if I don't get help. I would never flag a crate and leave my machines empty.

Anyway, thanks for spending the time to set these things straight; all of these comments are things that are easily forgotten by long time players but necessarily obvious to us noobs.

The only real way to accumulate cream is to withhold making good cakes, coffees and creamy potato dishes. You know, FUN foods. Booo...:( At this very moment I have 15 creams and 16 butters and I don't think I've EVER had that many at one time before. Been busy yesterday and today with less time to farm, so that's probably it. My supplies of regular and goat cheese are depressingly low, though - only 2 of each. :(

But I can sure set you up with bacon pies and hamburgers. :D

Play the game the way YOU want to, not in accordance with how you think other players are expecting you to play. I, for one, don't ask for help often. I fill my own crates if I can and ask for help if I need to, but it doesn't happen very often, probably because I keep my machines running 24/7 so that I always have lots of stock in my barn and still enough to sell and help others. Play YOUR way. :)

Edit: Star , I've seen your sugar/dairy post. I think someone else must have linked to it since i didn't start here till August. I think i know what my problem is. I play too much. As soon as I get a bowl of cream or a stick of butter I am using it on another machine. It might stem from working with the Captain's and Trucker folks and trying to get at least 10 of each item in my barn. I do better if I am forced to not play due to a meeting or appointment because then I can take advantage of long periods of time with my machines going and me not using up the products. Like that's going to happen! My longest periods of time away from home are my frequent DR. Appointments and now they have free wifi for the patients. So even my time in the chemo room is used for hay day. oh well!

Never feel you HAVE to flag crates for help. Just know that asking for help totally helps your helper, so that asking is not a burden. However, if you can fill them yourself it is to your advantage to do just that. The time bonus goes down, the longer it takes you to fill it and send it off. Some folks flag a few and then go back within a set amount of time and then fill it themselves to allow others to help without reducing their own bonus too much. Others flag the crates but if they are not filled in a bit of time, will then advertise some product in their shop to draw in the rest of the hay day world.

The best in my mind is to take that worry away and flag crates you know you can get to later if you have to. I figure that if someone else fills my jam crate, I can take the ones I still have and pay it forward, but I always wait to make sure I won't need them for that boat. But that's just me.

Only one time comes to mind where I would tell you NOT to help your neighbors crates and that is when you are working on your captain's achievement or stocking up for your Turbo Trucker. (Ok that's two). These are times when it's OK to be selfish and no one will mind. As for friends, feel free to add me and almost anyone who posts here. Unless they are hitting their limit, I've never met anyone who doesn't mind a friend request. They may ignore it, but most like to help new folks. Makes us feel like just maybe we have mastered something.

Be careful falling asleep while playing, I do that a lot and I am pretty sure that's how I managed to lose some diamonds. Maybe I shouldn't take this thing to bed huh?

Oh Tigg, I do it every night. It's like bedtime therapy. I've bought things I didn't want (whaa?? 10 bacon/eggs??), sold things at default prices, and more than likely lost diamonds in the process. I call it "sleepy thumb syndrome." But I have to. I don't think I'd be able to fall asleep without a little farming to help me along. At least I count sheep somewhere in there.

I dream about the game. very bizarre ones too. Sometimes I have to talk myself into remembering that is just a game and I don't really have to go out and swipe the cows.

I used to feel bad about farming in the middle of the night but then i caught my husband playing "his Turn" at words with friends. And his opponent lives across the street so it's not like they are in different time zones.

I lose diamonds all the time, but I still manage to hire Tom once or twice a week ;)

I have gotten very good about rolling my eyes at myself and moving on with life. I don't spend money on this game (We have a REAL farm in REAL life that keeps my family quite busy. The worst is hunting season because I tend to do the men's work AND help process all that meat with the women. That can take us a couple of days. In fact, if I ever disappear, it's because I am staying at the farm and working, working, working! I never disappear for too long, even on holidays, though!)

Get well soon. I know you must get extremely tired at times, but I'm thrilled to see you keeping a positive attitude. It makes all the difference in the world!
