Thank you Tiggerr for a really excellent post. With the demise of the Captain's thread there are a lot of new players coming onto the forum who are 'all at sea' (ouch, sorry for that). Don't want to give you a full time job but I think there is room for a 'boat advice' thread. Perhaps two or three people could get together and run it? My contribution (which is just my own personal whinge thing), is people who flag crates without bothering to fill even one themselves (I know many people aren't bothered by this but that is just my thing). I like to see that someone has at least made an effort.

I agree! Well said Tig :) I never fill any sugar or dairy boats...they don't even get time to rest at my dock before I'm sending them on their way.

I doubt even you could have filled all the cream boats I had on my list the last couple weeks. I couldn't even fill the ones of a friend who will give me tons of bolts on demand, who sends me a message when he is going to flag a whole string of trees and who last week gave me so many screws and nails I was able to update my already large silo. I would have given my last one in a heart beat if I had one.

if you have a secret way of accumulating cream please let me know. I'd love to have enough too

Thanks Woozle, I am still in mourning over the demise of the captain's thread. That might be why I try so hard to help these boats. There just wasn't enough traffic to continue to man the thread continuously. Although with the new global events taking almost all of a particular product and causing shortages of everything else from the same machine, there might be a new demand for people willing to help those boats. I made loads of extra pumpkin pies for one of my neighbors who opened 2 crates of them. but I still wasn't able to finish them before the boat had to leave.

Accumulating cream is a slow and tedious process. I'm currently working on mastering the coffee kiosk but I still never find myself low on cream. The trick that I use is very simple, maybe too simple. I just keep my dairy producing cream 24/7, have expanded it to 9 production doing cream all day long. Only downtime is for around 5h when I'm sleeping but I wake up to 9 fresh creams and the first thing I do is to restock the creamqueue... If you stick to the process above you should see that your cream supply is slowly increasing. Of course it's even faster if you ignore the coffe kiosk!

Your posts are well thought out Tigger and I agree.
I usually send the send sugar/cream boats on and rarely have enough stock to help anyone else. Most of my friends needing help this morning were cream boats!
I sent on a pumpkin pie boat yesterday as it wasn't fair to ask for help and I knew I could not fill it. Last event I was thankful not to get a bacon and egg one.

I just want to add something for those without many "friends." If you flag crates for help, I recommend to advertise as much as you can. Your probability of getting help increases since players sometimes browse the DD looking for boats to help.

As for my preference re: sugar boats...

If and when I have the sugar/dairy machine free, I do not cast off boats asking for sugar/cream. It is doable on my own. There have been a few times when I ask for help to fill one crate. Luckily for me, players have helped me. So, not everyone will not not help with sugar/cream. I have cast off some but is rare. Just the other day I cast off one but the next one was sugar again. And I decided to keep it and filled it on my own (it asked for 3 crates of 9 b sugar). Easy.

Similarly, if machines are free and I have no boat asking for the products, I also help my followers fill these crates especially with white sugar (amount is less than brown) and cream (short time to make).

I have instead decided to cast off boats asking for jams because they take too long. Because of this, I always help followers/friends with jams (they always award two wheel points).;)

I think my neighbors and I have built a good HD relationship. They know I would help with difficult boats and in turn they pay it forward. This has been possible because I keep a small group of friends and followers. Easier to manage and less expectations to be met.

As Tigger said, people play differently. I would say to pick and choose what fits you from any of all the good advises you find in this entire forum.

Tiggerr, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this thread and the thoughtfulness you put into every word. So many of these things we take for granted after a while, not considering there are new players starting each day. Like it states in my sig, I turn these boats away and rarely help with them, simply because as you state, there is such demand and I like having lots of finished product to share and use. I don't know if it's just me, but I do notice that the same boat orders on my neighbors' farms seem to come in waves and everyone needs the same things. So makes it especially tough when you are seeking raw materials.

Woozle, I second your feelings on seeing an effort. I will purposefully not fill a crate if all three of one thing are flagged, with the person not even trying to fill one. Especially the hard stuff like jam. Gets my goat. Har. :p

When i am lucky enough to have avoid losing my diamonds and gotten enough for Tom, I usually send him for jams and shovels and now chocolate bars. I am still trying to level up and love filling those truck orders. The shovels help me get loads of ore and more diamonds. I am still trying to get enough vouchers for the pets and fish. Plus I have a real urge to make buttered popcorn. Not sure why as I hate eating popcorn, but it does look so good. I'll have to try your method for a while after I get my cheese and butter built up
