I've looked at big, amazing looking mid level farms that are chock-full of decorations. I've noticed they often spruce it up by sticking groups of fully grown trees/bushes every so often, and sticking large, grand decorations in the middle of their fields of plots. I've also seen farms with stuff put together and an enormous plantation of trees and bushes in the corner. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm lv 19.
Experiment with what you have. Make patterns with your fields and flower decorations. It took me a long time to get the look I wanted. Your farm should reflect you - not anyone else. As you get more resources, you can make the snazzy designs you see in other farms. Happy farming!
Hi there, my tip to you is to hang onto some of your trees & rocks until you decide what kind of farm you want. (Who knew that the fir trees would be given pumpkin lanterns or that the green leafy trees would turn such pretty varied colours?)
I would say have a look around at other farms & see what you like first & don't be in too much of a rush. A lot of the small stuff can be bought pretty cheaply from the shop and arranged in a decent amount can look pretty good, can look quite surreal actually (I think.) You get some stuff on the roulette wheel (first spin each time is free.)
It's all down to personal taste & I don't want to impose mine on you, don't forget that some people have spent a lot of money on theirs but you don't need to do that, you are working with a grid so there will be a certain amount of optical illusion (that's why putting a lot of small things together looks good.) It's all good clean fun & you can take pictures of your designs as you go (on iPhone 4 you push the on/off button on the top at the same time as the button on the front, the screen goes white & your photo is taken.) here's wishing you lot's of creative fun.
Forgot to say, another tip (tho not originally mine) is that, as a rule, (decoratively,) stuff always seems to have more of an impact when grouped together with others of it's kind & in odd numbers rather than even.
I totally agree about not getting rid of all your trees and rocks, you don't really need the space yet, and I was really sorry that I cut down too many of mine at the beginning of the game. Every time you purchase a new tree that costs coins, the price goes up significantly! And it's amazing how you can fit machines in to the available landscape, without clear-cutting.
I started playing around with arranging my fruit trees and berry bushes as you have to have them anyway. They can make lovely pathways on your farm. I don't personally care for the Wheel of fortune decorations so those go into storage when I win one, but I've seen some great farms that have had fun with them, very creative.
As you make more coins you can spend some of it on the trees, flowers and garden decorations available. I would use diamonds on expanding your machine slots before buying a fancy swing or waterfall, but it's up to you.
I love designing and redesigning my farm so my advice is just have fun, it can keep you busy for hours! Thanks for your post, it's so nice to hear from someone who is interested in what their farm looks like, not just what it can produce.

It's a never ending story. I have so much in storage! I get a wild hair and go on a shopping spree! I think if I had not spent a fortune on designing I would probably have 1.5 million instead of 600k. I'm not complaining, I am a shopaholic and I consider it therapy.
As the others said, take your time. I personally couldn't wait to clear cut my land because that's what I did to my real life home - took out all the developer's trash which was planted too close to the house anyway (and which was planted on every other lot in the neighborhood) and planted my own trees and flowers, etc. Same with my farm. It's practically covered with fruit producing trees and bushes and is arranged the way I would want to live. I have very few bought decorations except for the picket fence, a few benches, a couple of lamposts and a couple of ponds. I like the tranquil look and feeling of not having all that visual stimulus that one sees on some of the farms. To each his/her own. Do what makes you feel good, and take the advice of others and go slow, especially when spending coins and diamonds. There's plenty of time to decorate, get your feet on the ground producing first so you can then afford all those decorations and still have the coins for machines and such. Most of all, HAVE FUN! I love rearranging my farm, though the animals stay put on the downwind side of the farm. :)
your farm sounds lovely. I have tried to make mine somewhere I would like to live too - hence the bread oven at the back of the house as we have built a wood fire pizza oven at home. I do wish I had kept more natal trees, especially now they have the autumn colours.Quote:

Your farm is one of my favourite designs. I love looking around it whilst hunting for treasure chests or helping your boat or doing watering. There is always something to spot that I didn't notice last time I looked.Quote:

None of us had any idea when we first started playing, so your'e not on your own there... lol. The more you play, the more you get, which in turn brings about different needs and requirements. Early on, I liked the fences, hedges (to create mazes with) paths, and even the little decorations which you could buy with coins from your money making adventures... I even made all the patterns with the crop fields... Bought benches and street lights galore, you get the idea. Over the course of five or six months, your farm will evolve and change to the n'th degree, most probably your layout might even change weekly. It's your farm, decorate it the way that you want, and design it the way you want, that's the beauty of the game, and a good tip for you is to take your time and be very very patient. Thank you so much for the compliment, Fran. I love virtually wandering through all the farms I visit. I get GREAT design ideas from them, some are very original! I'm not worrying about levelling up anymore, just helping out my neighbours and playing in my garden. Wow, a real outdoor bake oven gymgirl, that makes great sense in Oz!
I forgot to mention in my last post to treasure those saws and axes. I try never to use up a fruit tree or berry bush's last resources unless I can cut it down right away (excluding those wonderful dead cherry trees which are making awesome Hallowe'en displays). I just hate those nuclear winter farmscapes with all that dead stuff.
