We began speculating on what the next global event would be. Pumpkin pie was a popular target because it is a lower level item, and doesn't not take a lot of ingredients. Many people began hoarding items they thought would be in the next event.

in addition, there was a Facebook hint about two hours before the actual event (which I missed... :o) that gave some people a head start. So all the pies in shops have been bought up, and probably most pumpkins, too!
