Personally, I think that is exactly the type of player that the AI update was intended to target. Those who plan with millimetric precision and had the AI worked out to such an extent that anything less than a high % two star would be considered an abject failure.
There is probably a massive part of the player base that hasn't even noticed a change, because they've never studied in any depth how their troops move/react in different scenarios. Those players won't be suffering, indeed it's possible they are doing better than previously.
