I just got enough money to unlock the fishing nets but I am not sure if I want to do so? I have heard that you only get a few fish with them and they take a really long time. Is it worth it to spend all those coins on the fishing net or should I save them for when the next things become available for me to purchase?
The advantage of the nets are volume of fish caught at one time, helpful for making fish products like sandwiches and stew.The Mystery nets cost 5 diamonds, and give you a prize, ranging from diamonds to shovels. The nets take a very, very LONG time, and tie up that particular fishing area. The fish caught in nets do NOT count for achievement points. I use the nets occasionally, but I don't think I would do it again.
You can check the Guide Book thread (from Sticky post) to know the exact time for net, more than 20h.
In a recent announcement, it is stated that net always yields 3 fish fillets from now on.
I really did not like the fishing at the start especially when i discovered i would have to expand the areas having sold off all the gear! Now it is done i like the fishing and put the nets down overnight as they are time consuming. I have wasted diamonds twice on the mystery net for little return so would say do not bother with that one and stick to the free stuff. Each to their own but i have to concede i quite like it now.🐻🌞🇪🇸🎃🎃🎃🐠🐟🐡
IMHO, the nets are only good for when you'll be away from the game for a long, long time. I'm never away that long so they don't make sense to me. My DH and DS use them regularly as they can't play during the day like I can. I'm glad to find out that they'll yield 3 fish from now on. Kind of frustrating to wait about 24 hours (making net and letting it sit) just to get 2 fish.
You will, however, need the net maker to catch lobsters when you get to that level.

I agree. It would be a good idea to keep a couple of nets on hand for the times when you know you will be away from the game longer than just overnight. Otherwise, don't bother.Quote:

Like someone else mentioned, you will need the net maker sooner or later to catch lobsters anyways so unless there's anything else you need to buy atm, might as well repair the net maker now. Although I think 20 hrs is way too long to catch 3 fishes, I currently only have 4 slots on my lure maker which means I don't need more than 3-4 fishing spots for fishing with lures. I also just started upgrading my lobster pond which means I only need 1-2 spots for lobsters atm, leaving at least 2 spots free for net fishing. So that's how I use my fishing area right now. In the near future when my lobster pond can hold more lobsters, I'll probably reserve majority of the spots for catching lobster.
The reward of 3 fish for soaking a net for hours and hours is not worth the return, in my opinion. I just used 6 lures and caught 6 fish in less than a minute. There is just no reason to use a net, especially since the caught fish count for nothing in the book or in achievements. I'm certainly not encouraged to spend 5 diamonds on a mystery net either since the returns I've heard about are so ordinary for such a costly net, with the exception of the pearl which is iffy.
I think SC needs to rethink this money-grubbing update. I am very sorry I ever spent the money to open the net. It will take me forever to get the coins to open the lobster pool, and I need other buildings as well. The lobster pool is way low on my list, and the fishing net returns too little for time spent.
I find the mystery net to be a big problem honestly. It was nice that we all got 1 for free put personally, I would never spend any precious diamonds to make one and seeing how it's right there in between the lobster trap and fish net, I fear the day my finger slip and I accidently spend 5 diamonds on making one *shrug*Quote:
