Starting now by requiring all defenses be built to get th12 wouldn't fix the problem completely, but that is not a good reason not to do it.

What if...players had to have a certain amount of defenses and offense down in order to war- based on their TH level? Not that it has to be extreme, but enough to weed out the nonsense, and get matches a little more balanced.
Similar to BB- you go to upgrade your Hall, and it pops up a list of items that are still required prior to moving up. A leader selects your village to include in a war search, and if a required number of defenses/offense hasn't been placed- you're not eligible. I would think you could implement this in one swoop of an update.
You want to war- get those required items down. So many folks like to tell others that have war issues, that they don't have to war. Don't push the search button. opt out if you don't like the way the MM works. OK. take some of your own advice with this one.
Yes, I agree this is a good option. It's been suggested by myself and others in the past only to be shot down by forum members up in arms about how arbitrary it is. But these arbitrary limits could be established by SuperCell based on how they feel the game should be played.
On top of this, they could do it in a gradual manner rather than sudden changes, so extreme engineers aren't completely alienated from day one.
Unfortunately, I feel this solution requires the type of finesse that the SuperCell developers haven't displayed in the past.
Should have been done with th11, when th11 dropped. Nobody would have been negatively affected, and it would have sharply reduced engineering. Sure you could still stomp th9s with th10 bowlers, get a little edge with 10.5s (though it seems they've removed that edge), but there goes the free warden effect if it always goes hand in hand with a pair of burners.
Don't see it as viable retroactively though. Its one thing to take a few of the most extreme clans and reward them with 'no match', its another to yank a key component of the game from what's probably millions at this point.
I don't know about that, Tank. I think you could give people a heads up about what's about to happen. As a completely random example, SuperCell could say that effective 3 months from now, a TH11 cannot opt into war unless it has 2 (any level) inferno towers. You could give people plenty of time to adapt their bases, and at least there would be some clear direction about where SuperCell wants to take this game. Right now I don't know or understand what they are trying to do. I'm assuming they don't want this type of change based on their (in)actions.
I’m inclined to agree, partly because it strikes me as odd to have that as a border between 11/12 but not all the way down.
If they really wanted to hard nerf matchmaker conscious building the simplest means (warning, pretty radical suggestion follows) is go rather random without any sort of announcements or hints and switch it up often for six months - so this week eagles weigh almost nothing but all the weight is on archer towers, next week you’re matched mainly on offence, the week after teslas and wardens weigh a ton but kings are free etc. It would be a bumpy ride but it would sure flush out the system!
I’ll go now, and pick up that “Anarchist of the week” trophy at the window on the my way out.
They won't do that.
I honestly expected communication of a taxed based system and a realistic time table and phase in approach. Common sense doesn't dictate apparently
That would be better than what we have now, but I would instead prefer a minimum defensive weight. That doesn't prevent certain players from being in war, it just encourages them to build defenses. They can play at a disadvantage if they want to, just like many people war now at a disadvantage.
Yeah, I agree. A minimum defensive weight with an offensive check to make sure it needs to be applied, but announce it as starting in January so players have time to adjust. I think it would actually make SC money as players play to get their accounts war ready.
