I'm struggling with this question myself. I have about 70 lvl10 walls and will have heroes both at lvl10 by the time my last building completes. I will try to keep going for a while but really not sure how long I will be able to keep going. Any suggestions on motivation??
The answer is easy... stay for as long as you are able to have fun!
If you like TH9, enjoy attacking and defending with what you've got, and can slowly work up your walls and heroes while you do it, why change?
If you feel stale and would like a different challenge instead, why not go to TH10 which will give you some new things to work up (troops, defenses, etc)?
Personally, I imagine there will come a day, before the point you've got to, where my TH9 village will be "on maintenance" i.e. I'll give up trying to save 5M+ for the next upgrade, and just log in 1-2 times a day to check my defense log, empty the collectors, and have a fun battle or two... who says you have to keep upgrading your village at all?
I'm going TH10, I have about 25 lvl10 walls, so I should have 40-50 by the time my upgrade is complete. Heroes will be lvl 16.
I started just keeping a mental note on the bases I was farming- how many were TH8, TH9, and TH10. I was farming enough TH9 and TH10's where there is no way the loot could suddenly disappear after upgrading.
Tbh, back before TH10 existed, everyone was saying the same thing about TH9. How going TH9 ruined the game, loot was impossible to find, etc. I went TH9 and found it completely false. People exaggerate the loot penalty.
For a while, well unitl TH11 is announced (which is soon mate, I bet it's gonna release minimum end of the year) It's coming, just wait till TH10 is just a BIT better.

I am just deciding now when to start my hall 9 upgrade. My base is all but maxed. Just 2 AT's left to do - which can happen during hall upgrade. Also Valks & Golems...but I am not pushing anytime soon so I don't care about them right now. My last elixir troop upgrade Pekka 3 just about to start.
I can see myself at TH9 for a very; very long time. Unless SuperCell introduce ways to make more loot at the top I will be in no hurry whatsoever to reach hall 10.
TH10 is rough. I stayed TH9 until level 25/22 heroes, full lvl 9 walls + about 80 level 10s before deciding to upgrade. I wish I'd stayed longer. I've been TH10 about a week now and I have cut back my attacks per day from ~15-20 to maybe 2-5 per day. Farming loses its fun for me when it becomes 5-10 minutes of base searching to find a village that you can maybe scrape a 100k profit from (because of the thousands spent on searching). I'm sad because I love this game but I'm afraid I've ruined it for myself for the time being. And yes I've tried different trophy ranges, from 1600-2300.

Yes, it has been a bad experience for me so far, hopefully it is simply because my sample size is too small and/or bad luck during a particularly rough period of loot for the game. There are many other TH10 farmers I see doing well, so either they are investing far more time than me, or I haven't really figured out how to farm efficiently at TH10 yet. Either way, it's considerably less entertaining to farm at than TH1-9 in my opinion, primarily due to length of time searching and the huge amount of profit that is drained from it.Quote:
