I know most clans set archers as the default donation. But... what about giants. Granted they're slower but they have a ton of hps. They can be a real pest on defense.

I usually request archers wizards or dragons. Level 4+ minions are always welcome as well.
witches are still good on defense i think. makes it a problem for attacker if you can keep witch alive. they keep having to kill skelys. minions are good with archers too. wizards are awesome also

Giants are horrible on Defense.
1) Giants are slow, especially when so many other units are faster
2) Only five of them means minimal damage. 5 archers do more damage than one giant
3) HPs aren't an advantage on defense because you need to kill units faster. They can be overwhelmed by small units.
4) They can't attack air.
Giants are designed as an offensive unit with a specific purpose, to attack defenses and be a meat shield to protect the smaller units. There are no buildings to attack on defense and being a meatshield is pointless if you only get 4-6 of them and they do so little damage. Archers are more versatile and everyone has them so they are easy to make as the default. As a playing community most people can agree. My clan has a "respect the request" policy so if someone wants giants they get giants but otherwise if they don't request something they will probably get archers and be very happy.

The cheapest things go down the best IMHO, as well they have 'good' statistics. I like Wizards as they Slaughter troops quickly & efficiently, my hates in my CC are barbarians they are just a waste.
30 Level 6 Archers = 660 DPS
6 Level 6 Giants = 240 DPS
30 Level 6 Archers = 1320 HP
6 Level 6 Giants = 5280 HP
You're right, BUT 6 giants v.s. 30 archers will be destroyed, also, troops have to switch 30 times instead of 6 times, so overall less time unless user is using mass splash troops.
wizzies/drags and balloons are the best exept if the attacker is using archers,wizzies or drags
I would say barbarians because they are like a mini barbarian king exspecially when some people can hold like 20! Also healers because they will heal your buildings up so those r the best! (Just thought about that). Well unless u donate pekkas or golems :)
Wizards. Can screw up a lot of Giant and Hog raids no problem....

Dragons for me. They're a bit slow but they can smash ground troops like crisps under bison.
I'm in a clan with just me and my missus who's TH7. I donate level 3 dragons and watching that annihilate the attacker's troops is great fun to watch.
Changed my mind since creating my last thread. If wizards can do that much damage then they're
now number 1 in my opinion.

Well if i was attacking, i dread seeing a dragon fly out of that cc ;) but im partial to minions and wizards. And also goblins are HIGHLY underrated.
balloons can do some nasty damage on defense if there's no archers or wizards about.

I've had the most success with wizards. Offense and defense. I used to prefer dragons (for defense) but I have to attack again before being attacked I don't want dragons on offense. So I roll with wizards since they are great both ways.
Any one seen a CC full of goblins? They are pretty feisty, quick damage, but low HP.
Also Hogs are pretty good as they can't be hit by lightning.
But generally if I'm raiding, air troops and archers, if I'm on defence, archers and minions.
not a single person said valks,but I think these are the single best troop on defence.(nearly useless on offence).
lightning cant kill it(even 2 might not do it). it has splash damage, moves quickly, 1 hits up to wizards,high health, and only somewhat large housing space(8).
honestly 3 valks can probably mess up all ground raids.
of course their 1 major weakness is air attacks,but in those cases they don't even leave the cc.(im talking bout ballooninons and all dragon attacks)
Wizards or giants. Otherwise, I just accept anything even if it's a wall breaker! XD
But I like wizards the most. They fry giants so easily.
P.S. Somebody used their CC troops on me and I saw about 9 wall breakers coming out from the clan obelisk or something... O_o

5 wizards and 5 archers.
The archers keep the enemy troops occupied for a few extra seconds so that my wizs can roast whatever is nearby.
Sadly due to AI, wizs aren't as great against a tier one spam if defences keep killing troops.
Definitely a huge fan of wizards.
However, I have had a single level 3 dragon survive to defend my village.
Wizards are probably the best overall. I'd much rather face a Dragon than a bunch of lvl 5-6 wizards. Other than Wizzies, Balloons are really underrated. I've had them single-handedly completely ruin GoWiPe's (they killed all four Pekkas and both Golems before killing a bunch of wizards in response to being killed themselves). Their one issue is with the prevalence of archers, most smart players can kill them with minimal losses.
Wizards are the BEST ones for defense. You may think that dragon is beast at defense, but he can be easily overpowered. WIZARDS!

Valkyries are pretty good but not many people train them
Giants that are LvL 6 ain't bad but I hate anything lower than that
I don't mind minions but they seem really meh on defense. Same with barbs and hogs.
Goblins and balloons I don't like to see. Though I have to admit if a balloon can get in close they do cause serious damage
PEKKAS are great on D, offense depends on what attacks you.
I usually ask for archers and a couple wizards, they help alot. However i rarely get some barbs which i dont really like. I might put minions on the list :)
Dragons in a centralized clan castle.
They move giants in, trigger the clan castle.. and just see them being cooked by the dragon. :D
I once received three valks... they utterly destroyed a gowipe. He only got 13% and I'm TH8 (he was TH9).
But since next to no-one trains them, archers, minions, dragons are really common in my clan, or wizzies if I'm lucky.
I disagree that Dragons can be easily overwhelmed, because you need anti-air. I have trouble overwhelming CC dragons because I use archers, and they just have trouble coordinating an attack on a dragon while navigating defenses. And if the bunch up, the dragon's splash damage will fry them all at once. Wizards are ground troops and can be surrounded by any troops, including barbs. I always carry 20 barbs for taking out CC troops and/or the barb king. Barbs slice up wizards nicely.
Perhaps wizard are better at higher trophy levels when it comes hunting. I'm farming at Gold 2.
But then again that's the cleverness of the troop design. Not all troops do well in all situations so no troop is perfect.
Wizards / Archers are good (DPS wise) if there's no lightning spell. Dragons, balloons, and minions can devastate ground-based armies (like Healer-Giant with no air support).
Golems are boss tanks. Valks can obliterate mobs of tier one troops. Witches spawn loads of skeletons.
They all have their pros.
Barbs slice up wizards nicely? Are you sure we are playing the same game here? Wizards will annihilate masses of barbarians due to splash damage and longer range. Barbs would be one of the worst troops to take out wizards, as they are not ranged, so the wizards can and will shoot over walls to get them. Their extra health compared to archers is negligible due to the wizard's awesome DPS allowing to one-shot kill barbs at all levels.
Perhaps you should reconsider your tactics against wizards.
I like wizzies and dragons. Wizards completely ruined my giant healer attacks several times. Dragons are also really good because of the splash damage. Sometimes, the attacker tries to attack the drag with archers, but the archers destroy buildings instead, while my dragon roasts them into little skeletons. :cool:

I HATE giants in defense, big housing, low damage, slow, couple of archers, boom. Goblins I don't mind as much, high damage, fast and moderate hp for a tier one troop. My favourite is wizards, they can just take out small clumps of enemies in one, pretty high hp, splash damage, high damage. Balloonies, well depends, but balloonies are my second favourite, only downside is their speed.

for me, the best troops on defense are valkyries, wizards, archers, and the dragon because of their splash, speed, and numbers. a team of 30 archers can pick off several troops at a time and have to be attacked individually, they also target flying troops, but they are easily wiped out by lightning. wizards have decent health and deal some good damage while splashing enemies around the troop that was shot, they also target air troops, but they sometimes have a hard time selecting who to target and usually end up air humping. valkyries deal splash damage and have plenty of health, but they cant target flying troops. dragons are like flying behemoths that deal good splash damage but only comes from one source, and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. enemy troops can easily gang up on one dragon and cut off his life in seconds. another great troop in your castle may be the witch since she can basically build up an army of skeletons to defend your base. :cool:

I like wall breakers for when I go full on goblins they can break the walls and on defence they can nicely take out goblins and barbs :D
