Hayday bolts are my headache. But believe it or not, I was on tour through Belgium and parked at an old factory parking lot. I opened the door, placed my foot outside on the asphalt and now lookie here. Believe me, I got a shock, a thrill, goosebumps all over! After catching my breath I was able to photograph my excitement and I just felt like sharing it with you ;)

I got bolts! Can't get the last few planks to upgrade! Get screws and wood panels like crazy! Also I collect for my daughter level 18 and can't find one nail? It changes for me like every two week! Always a shortage on one item! Makes me crazy!
Planks and nails have always been a problem. For last month or so it's also been very difficult to find bolts. And who would have believed I couldn't find any wheat to finish my last boat with double vouchers. None in DD, none on friends' farms either. And I forgot to open up the box for help. Then my screen froze just as I was clicking to send my boat and I missed the double-voucher by seconds. And guess what color voucher I received after screen froze? Gold of course..the only gold voucher I saw during the entire event. Oh well, guess one gold is better than none. Surely could have used two though especially since the game "swiped" six more of my diamonds today for no reason I can find.

You know you play Hay Day too much when you see BEM & SEM in real life and a thrill goes through you. I found myself shaking with glee in the duct tape aisle at a local shop a couple weeks ago.

Both myself, my mom and my sister live on what we call "Bolt Farms"... we have no issue getting Bolts... it's the Planks for the Barn that we can never find.
I have 3x more planks, screws, bolts etc than i could ever need, but never any darn nails or tape!!! I dont care to expand right now so i always sell any markers, deeds and mallets that i get

After playing a while now I have noticed that every farm has one item that will pop up more often. Trading with other people is the best way to get your missing items. It seems like the harder you look, the harder it gets. I have played with no sem and bem in my barn and they pop up everywhere, harvesting crops, producing, feeding the animals and reading the paper. It seems sem and bem supply gets squeezed when you have more :-) (I guess :-) )
It does seem like every farm is different. Not sure how it is determined, but I'm going to start a new farm on my new tablet this week, and I'm curious to see if I get different "scarce" building materials on it.
I get a ton of bolts, and always have. Bolts and panels grow on my farm like weeds. They also show up in the DD more often. A lot more often. It's nails and planks that are more valuable than platinum for me.
I resisted trading for a long time, but looking at 130 bolts and no planks in my barn, I decided trading is the way to go.

My woe is tapes. Been tapes for months. My rotation keeps bringing me back to LEMS, SEMs, LEMs, SEMs..... ugg. I get bolts and planks enough through harvesting and toolboxes to cover upgrades but not tapes. Sometimes, I think I'd trade my first born for a stack of tapes. :p:rolleyes::p

Then I started selling off extras for the silo, while still keeping everything for the barn. As a test. Now my silo is much bigger than my barn. Even though I started selling off the barn items too, and trading, which helped even them out again, my silo is still 100 slots bigger than my barn.

I have sold all tapes and planks to test the statement that you get most of the stuff you have, but no, this does not work on my farm.
So to get more of one shall i infact sell off all excess of others? Cuz om drowning in panels and scarse in everything else?? Plz advise!

It's so annoying finding bolts! I'm 10 bolts away from upgrading my barn to 950 but can't seem to get hold of the last 10. For me they are the hardest to find after that I would say nails are pretty hard to get hold of too.

I've decided to try an experiment regarding this. I am going to try to get the tape I need to upgrade but I'm NOT going to upgrade. I am going to upgrade each time I have enough to upgrade x 2.
Normally as soon as I can upgrade, I immediately do . Near the end when I have only a few duct tape needed, they start coming fairly fast for me. Then I'm back to desperately needing duct tape again once I hit the upgrade button. This time I'm going to wait and see if the duct tape starts rolling in when I have 50+ in my barn already. Right now I need 50 of each item to upgrade. I have 48 of the planks and bolts and 2 duct tape. I'm going to hold on to everything from today onward until I have 100 of each before I upgrade.
Since I'm bored of the game, this gives me a new challenge to try to keep playing. I'm always out of room in my barn but hey, who isn't? That's a Hay Day farmers life. So it's not like it's a surprise. I try to have 15 of every product in my barn but I'll cut that down to 10 to accommodate the extra barn expansion items. Granted, getting another 48 duct tape is going to take some time but once I get it, I'm going to see if this theory has any merit.
If the theory of SC programming withholding that of which you desperately need holds true, then the duct tape will not become a desperate situation. Since I WILL have enough to upgrade - BUT - I won't and the items remain in my barn and my expansion items numbers will be relatively high (compared to my measly 2 out of 50 duct tape ratio here at the moment) the programming will not recognize this as an item that I'm desperate to have.
An example of this for me is the axes and saws. Currently I have 107 axes and 105 saws. All I get are axes and saws when I'm harvesting (used to be deeds). Anyway, I have no TNT, dynamite or shovels, I NEVER get any when harvesting - none, nada, zip. But I used Tom for the first time and set my alarm for every two hours - that was tough - and acquired 106 shovels through him for that 24 hour period. Now, when I am harvesting, shovels are coming up continuously. I believe it's because they are no longer a hot commodity I'm struggling to get. I have plenty. BUT, I never get dynamite or TNT. Hmmm. If I had no axes or saws (I sell them in batches of 5 when I have more than the trees/bushes to use them on) I doubt I would get any when I am harvesting. This gave me the idea that there could be some merit to this all.
Does this make any sense to anyone? Or am I finally losing my reason from playing Hay Day too long?
As soon as I get 50 duct tape to upgrade, I'm going to post again and then I am going to start to record the results of the duct tape caper and see if they start rolling in. At least I feel motivated to play a little again. It's been really tough picking up my iphone and getting my animals fed and tended to. I've just lost a little bit of interest.

Me either. I am getting close to a barn upgrade now and it was a relief to help my husband upgrade his silo so I could get those items out of my barn. But my barn is straining at the seams now and I still need 15 or so more items:rolleyes:

All the bolts are at my farm. They breed there, like coathangers. ;)
Bolts and panels are always abundant at my farm. Planks and nails are always scarce.
It's the duct tape and screws that interesting. Usually they are fairly plentiful, but every once in awhile they get scarce. Usually when I need them.

In conclusion, I believe that my theory has merit. We all know we get multitudes of some items and they just keep coming. But that one illusive one is the frustrating one. We upgrade as soon as we get that last one - bringing us back to the poverty of that one item. We're back to square one, struggling for bolts, duct tape, whatever.
My intention now is to always be one upgrade ahead. Yes, it does take up barn space, there's no denying that. But when one is frustrated, as a lot of us are, because we can't get these items, it's not as much fun to play this amazing game.
We all play the way it suits us best and I respect that for every one of us. To channel the boredom I was feeling into something a little more constructive was a whole lot of fun. You might need help at first, like I did with my wonderful neighbor, but I think that there is something to this experiment and I'm going to keep going and see if this trend continues. I'll update all of you again, if you like, on how it's going.

I am usually short of nails and planks, and drowning in bolts and panels. Last week I made some massive trades, ending up with tons of nails and planks - enough to upgrade twice. But since I didn't have enough of the other items, I only upgraded once.
And I really did start getting more planks and nails. I started to wonder if my farm had changed, as I've heard sometimes happens, and I had new scarce items and new common ones.
After awhile, though, the old tendencies returned, and I ended up short of planks and nails again. Even though I had plenty of nails, panels eventually overtook them, even though I didn't upgrade.
I do think Hay Day has a tendency to give you more of what you have a lot of, but IME it doesn't overcome the natural tendency of your farm. Which for mine is toward bolts and panels.
I'll be interested to see how your experiment goes.

So I agree with what both of you guys have discovered and have added my own discovery on the middle of the road items. If your short on something it does help to get it to the max and then go for awhile or if you can until you have enough for 2 upgrades. If though you get that scarce item maxed before your middle of the road, then you will have issues finding that middle of the road item. But whatever your farm is, be it a bolt farm or tape or plank, those will still come regardless of what you do. Once you get your scarce item back under max for upgrade, it then becomes scarce again. So far my farm has not changed in what I get a lot of and what I get very little of either.

If the shoppers want organic food why do they ask for saws and other non food products? Ask me for carrots and corn and other plantings. . I have plenty of them., Get with the food program for the food event!
