Have to disagree. Why should a play style not be rewarded? In just about every game or life event, someone has an advantage. Usually, the smartest, best prepared, best researched. You can create your advantage, no different here.
You can play play the game any way you want. Choosing the best approach generally leads to the best result.
SC has done a "great" job of nerf-buff cycle for troops. Why not with bases. Maxers had an advantage early, now engineers, next cycle repeats. It drives engagement, drives multiple bases, diversity, and ultimately probably gem purchases.
