Clan War Matchmaking Improvements

we got matched in our current war of 20v20 they have 8 th11 we have 4.

they have a +4 ea advantage, but their heroes are crud and we should win, but still, max troops will make it difficult since they can just loon or bowler spam our 10s for easy 3 even with low heroes.

And Ty Onyx, for as usual, reading my mind and articulating what I'm really getting at.

Stat monitoring is all well and good, but without player perspective on how those matches/mismatches feel and are likely to play out at different skill levels, it's not the whole picture.

We had one just last week with a whole stack of th11 with max armies and mostly minimal defenses (top 2 bases were maxed). We had none entered in this war and only 2 th10. Our bases were all max or near max defense for their level. So they certainly dont have anything fixed. But also, should I even be looking for that yet?

I get it that sometimes the underdog wins these, we have done it ourselves. But these were cases that the guys who had gemmed up those big armies had no clue how to use them (sometimes a gemmer that lacks experience does attacks that are just ludicrous to watch) so they left enough stars behind here and there that we were able to top their score. Of course we are happy taking the victory in these cases but really thats more a case of them losing than us winning. Its more exciting if we can get an even matchup with an opponent that plays well so that its a tooth and nail hard fought win. (Or even loss still has a fun element to it under those circumstances)

Right Right. We love photo finishes win or lose where it boils down to who had the best plan and executed for that clutch 3 star. Slamming our heads against the wall with an opponent who stacked the deck before hand, not so much.

Nobody cares about if there is a higher TH on the other side, or 1 more TH10,11 but having 50% more 11, Wardens,...etc is Insane. Stop that before the normal players will quit.

Yep, the clan with the match disadvantage can win with superior attacking or designing skill, which just makes it that much harder to evaluate whether a match is a mismatch or not.

Well, extreme engineering is MM solvable by first grouping the bases into two classes, one with a high gap between offense and defense and one class without. The bases with the high gaps will be matched within that class and the same goes for the other class.

I hope the upcoming change also has a way to deal with roster engineering, not just individual base engineering.

Roster Engineering is very simple (and an old term)

It's about stacking a war with noob accounts to lower the overall war weight
At the extreme
5x Max TH11
5x weak TH3

If you match against anything that isn't the exact same matchup, you're going to win (if they have town hall 10 to 5 for example)
Your three TH11s will use their two attacks each to three star everything.

If you take a lot of different town halls to war (say you have minis or it's a family/friends clan) then the matchmaking looks at you and finds a match with other clans with wide spreads, some of which are roster engineered.
