I have seen this actually. I don't have any insider info into the OPs clan but I did see a clan in global in the last few weeks that was named nowalls (or something to that effect - not exact name on purpose). Everyone in the clan was completely lacking in walls. Not a single account out of 42 had a single wall piece. These were NOT defenseless bases either. They had a serious range of accounts with normal defense levels, just no walls at all.
The guy in global said that is just the way they want to play. He was rather proud of it in fact.
I get the feeling that the OP was talking about this type of clan. If they are being lumped into the "Engineered" group then the new MM is doing more than looking at weights - it is specifically targeting bases without walls as a special case when making the match.
If this is true it is very interesting to me.
It isn't hard at all but it adds more exclusions into a MM that is already taking too long for some. It's that balance between time and fairness that is hard to strike. I think tbh we have to accept that they are doing the best they can with a very difficult problem when it comes to the match maker. They have been trying to perfect it for a number of years.
It is interesting though that some people are prepared to wait longer in clouds for an attack that lasts 2.5 minutes than others are prepared to wait for a war match that lasts 47 hours :)
The first step in proper matchmaking, is to eliminate defenseless accounts. The sheer amount of advantage by lowering overall weight, especially when 10+ of these are added into a roster, is the say the least, astounding.
There are a lot of ways to game the system right now, but this is the biggest headache of them all and a gross way to get an advantage. I'd like to see a system in war where this is not possible.
At the very least, assign a "minimum weight" that these types of bases bring in.
Example: defenseless TH11 brings in at the very least two max th9s. That would be at the very least 100k weight for that account.
I'd be happy to elaborate if needed. But these accounts are pretty stupid and mind boggling why this is allowed with the sheer number of people crying for a mismatch.
This is probably the biggest reason for mismatches and should be addressed at some point in the next year.
So basically what you are saying is that you want your clan to be unique AND you want the matchmaking algorithm (which has the stated aim of matching you with a clan that is similar) to find you a quick match.
These aims would appear to be diametrically opposed, would they not?
This is SO true. In the current war they have 2 TH11's. This is a 15 v 15 war. One is at #1 as a max, just like our #1. The other is at #10 and has 34/34/20 heroes. Many of his troops and spells are maxed too. This basically gives them 2 chances at our #1 to get a 2 star instead of 1. Since most wars come down to how good the #1 gets hit this gives them the advantage.
I would love to see SC remove the ability to use defenseless bases in war.
Hmmm... they could assign a minimum weight per TH lvl in order to join wars. Set it so that people could still rush to some extent without being penalized, but not so much that they thwart the MM system.
