My clan got wrecked some 2 years ago in a 35v35 war by a clan with engineered bases back then. I saw it....drooled...and wanted it for myself. 8 months later and some gems spent, I got what I wanted and then some.
I constantly see this engineered versus "fair play" discussion constantly. The question is....who decides what "fair play" is.
Some me argue that Builder Base is setup so that you cannot engineer the base and require building defenses before upgrading town hall. OK Fine. If you apply that same logic to the regular TH and require everyone to build defenses, that will not solve engineering. I can build EVERY Level 1 defense at TH11 and still CHOOSE not to fully upgrade and max TH defenses. Therefore my war weight will still be lower and I'll be engineered.
Basically, I am the Billy Beane of Clash of Clans. If you don't get the reference, google Money Ball. Using statistics in baseball to cheaply build a baseball team to get hits and score runs. At the time, it was called crazy, now all baseball teams do it.
The long and the short of it are there are loopholes for both sides of the argument and there is no fix all solution that everyone will agree on. If you want my personal opinion, CoC WILL NOT nerf engineered bases because it is a very deep well of gems and money.
