Uneven match!!...ENGINEERED BASES

One or both clans will get a shortened prep day. Almost certainly both. I think this is the necessary sacrifice to keep pool sizes from shrinking into insignificance, as I understand it.

Basically when you enter the pool you are saying you are willing for a war to happen 24 hours from now. Preserving start times.

You might end up with a truncated prep time. I personally would be OK with that. If you aren't, I hope there's a checkbox so matchmaker doesn't match us and screw you out of your prep time.

That's how I understand it, at least.

So in my example, with one 9am start matching to a noon start, prep day gets shortened 3 hours. See what this does to the noon start clan?

If I understand right the noon start clan gets their 23 hour prep reduced by 3 hours to match th 9 am start clan, and war starts at 8 am. Bit odd for them, to miss their targeted time by four hours.

Otherwise, how does the system decide how much to shorten prep day? By my search time, or the other clans? If I've been searching 3 hours to finally find a match with someone that just now clicked 'war', I wonder if you're thinking about shortening my prep day (and keeping the war start I was aiming for) without considering what that does to the other clan's planned schedule. If you shorten my prep day to account for time in the Q, then the other clan will get a less than 47 hour cycle.

what do you do now if search runs long? we have ran 1-2 hours before.

also, the main problem I have with this system is that currently it is assumed as time passes, the acceptable parameters for a match broaden. this is where the problem likely lies, if this is in fact true. the match parameters need to remain tight for longer

You are correct. This won't work as I implied earlier.

All this clock talk hurts my dyslexic brain, but couldn't all that be adjusted on SC's end? Right now we have a 23h prep to allow for a 1h search. Couldn't you instead specify war start & let them figure out the rest? So maybe 1 team gets an 8h prep & the other 22. As long as there is a minimum prep time, the clan could adjust from there. Their peeps would know they have to fill the 8h before war start , or they could have longer depending on the war.

I thought we were talking about binning, and guaranteeing certain war times? Any such idea does require bins.

Clan A starts war search at 9pm EST with the understanding that war start and end can happen anytime between 9pm and 1am, and prep days might be shortened accordingly.
Clan B starts war search at 10pm EST with the understanding that war start and end can happen anytime between 10pm and 1am, and prep days might be shortened accordingly.
A and B match and war begins, with a start time of 10pm.

OR: A and B don't match.

Clan C starts war search at midnight, with the understanding that war start and end can happen anytime between midnight and 1am.

They match Clan A. War starts at midnight.

Yes, there will have to be some flexibility. You can't get something for nothing.

My point was that it doesn't matter if the cycle is less than 47 hours. Set the players' war timers to 47 hours after search started- which might in extreme cases be several hours after war ends. Then they cannot war too frequently. So a search of 3 hours plus a 16 hour prep plus 24 hour battle means a 4 hour wait after war to restart.
The original suggestion on here was to make prep day dynamic, by subtracting the search from the normal 23 prep. I think it would probably be less confusing to set prep at 16 hours always, thus allowing searches up to about 8 hours.

Yeah, you are right, it can't be done the simple way like that. It has to be more along the more detailed way onyx suggested.

There's my confusion. Aren't these points mutually exclusive? If my war timer is set to 47 hours when I hit 'start', I can only match with someone that hit 'start' at the same time or else one of us gets our 47 hour timer modified. So the longer waiting clan gets 47 hours, the shorter waiting clan gets 47 minus however long the other clan was in the q.

I was under the impression that the key point behind the 'variable prep' idea was that it kept war start constant, and thus was better than simply allowing searches to go longer.

Should be an interesting war. Excluding the bottom defenseless bases, defenses appear to be roughly equal, but they have more xbows. They also win in the offense department. I'm guessing their attack skills will be lacking (apparently only area of the war we might excel at).

Will do an more detailed description in my match thread if I get the time tomorrow. Also, their war log is pretty average. They dont have more then 4 wins in a row (and only a few of those).

Their 2 45/45/20 players are solid, 3 out 4 on our top 4 bases were 3 starred. They got a 96% 2 star on our #1. 3 of their remaining 6 th11 attacks failed to get 3 stars with the maxed dragon/zap/warden hits. They have 3 shots left to triple our remaining 10's of which we have 3. So far it seems like the score will be 56 to 56. I still have two attacks from my #2 account tho possibly pick up another star to break the tie.
