I just made TH8 and I've resisted building the de drill. It just seems so... I don't know... worthless. It seems to generate almost nothing when compared to needing 10k needed to upgrade minions from level 1 to 2.
Thoughts? Is it worth it? Build and upgrade the mutha livin' hell out of it?
Or or just raid for all your hot, sexy DE needs?
Lvl 1 and 2 are useless, it gets better at lvl 3
If you think it's useless throw it outside with your town hall. You are almost guaranteed an attacker will snipe your drill and hall only. You get a shield and lose bugger all DE the process.
But yes, the drill at lv 1 & lv 2 does next to nothing. Only once you get it to lv 3 it's half decent.
I raid probably 95% of my DE, drill does about 5%.

Even if you do not use BAM, 1040DE everyday for free until the end of TH8(usually 60-90 days depending if they want to max their base or not) is nothing to be scoff at. That is 62,400DE for 60 days or 93,600DE for 90 days. Imagine how many upgrades you can do with those DE.
What is more, from nothing to level 3 only takes 6 days. That is the same upgrading time as WT lv5. Sure we can afford that 6 days, right?
There are many ways to play this game so there is no right or wrong way. Just sharing my thought process when I got my DE drill. I got it on the very first day and upgrade straight up to level 3;)

Oh, how they wanted the BK but 10,000 DE was way beyond their casual ways.
TH8, L2 Drill, boom their Kings are up and running in no time.
In short, any time spent on a drill is well spent.
One does get 1k de a day from a lvl 3 drill, so can't say its worthless..plus, when you get to th9 you dont have to build it from scratch.
Unless its lvl 6 its worthless
I raid plenty at crystal 3, but it helps with top ups and it's something to spend elixer on upgrading.
With DE every little helps brother ;)
Really, it's the same argument as upgrading mines and pumps vs raiding for resources. Whether you are talking DE or traditional resources you will be able to easily raid a large multiple of the amount that your collectors will generate for you in a day.
In short, if you have upgraded mines and pumps you are likely to see the benefit of building and upgrading drills. If you are TH8 and happy with lvl 5 mines and pumps, you probably will not see the justification of building a drill for the trickle of DE that it generates.
-I believe the resource collectors are vastly underutilized in the game.
-Too often people look at the fact that you get A LOT more resources raiding and infer that upgrading mines, pumps and drills is useless. I could not disagree more.
-Yes, it always a lot quicker to raid for resources, but that needs to be looked at separately from the passive resource generation provided by the collectors. Having these maxed out makes you exponentially more wealthy throughout the course of your gameplay.
-This is a game based on patience and longevity. Why would you not want DE flowing in with no effort at all? I for one plan on playing this game for the foreseeable future, so the benefit of having it will just keep growing.

Yes, you need them. I got a level 5 and a level 6 DE drill, they produce 4320 DE per day. I am pretty satisfied.
