Specific Attack Strategies

Hello everyone,

I'm a Town Hall level 7 right now about half way through everything that needs to be upgraded. I'm having fair amount of issues with Gold ranking raids, as I've recently made it to 1400 trophies. My usual tactic was:

- 75 x Barbarians
70 x Archers
5 x Giants
5 x Wall Breakers
SOMETIMES Barb King, and healing spells. This isn't working... at all basically.

Please don't tell me to lower my trophies, I don't want to do that and I don't want to farm. Here are my specifics:

Barbarians - Lvl 4
Archers - Lvl 4
Giants - Lvl 4
Barbarian King - Lvl 1
Balloons - Lvl 3
Wizards - Lvl 3
Wall Breakers - Lvl 3
Healer - Lvl 1

Nothing else unlocked in terms of army yet. I have a Dark Barracks building right now, as well as a complete Dark Exlixir storage, but keep in mind there's no DE drill for TH lvl 7, so Dark Troops aren't really reliable here. I have a level 2 healing spell as well as a level 4 lightning spell, too. I have 180 troop limit, will be 185 tomorrow. Basically what I'm asking for any ideas on attack strategies. I've been researching and trying out MANY different strategies.


Anything you have to offer is appreciated, looking for some opinions and suggestions from semi-experienced players! I'd rather not be linked to pages of strategies either; chances are I've seen 'em already.

Well if you were a member of my clan, I WOULD suggest your reduce trophies. But if you really want to chase cups then accept that your progress in terms of development will be limited, assuming you don't spend a lot on the game. You will hit a ceiling whichever troops you choose but I would probably try giant/healer backed up by wallbreakers and a mix of archers and barbarians

Since your army capacity will be 185 tomorrow, I recommend looking up Cosmii's Goldstar army. Mess with the numbers a little, but it is a great army comp. It is cheap and effective. There are many videos on YouTube.

I'm not really chasing cups, I just like to progress. I like to keep my trophies at their natural level instead of intentionally lowering them to get easier opponents, that just seems cheap to me. Just my opinion.

I do realize progress will be limited, but I'm sure I should be able to find opponents I can take on with a good strategy. I consider myself a fairly decent player, I'm just having trouble finding the composition. I'll check out that Goldstar army soon, thanks for the suggestions!

You don't have to intentionally lower cups. I lose a lot knowing I cannot win an attack. But I think I can make a lot of loot in an attack I go for it. I'm a TH9. You have to farm to do the upgrades. Or buy gems. That is the way the game goes. I never drop on purpose.

What sort of time restraint do you want on build times? It'll be pretty difficult to always win battles at 1400 cups as a TH7 if you're set on less than 30 min build times. I'm not familiar with GOLDSTAR but I know lots use it effectively. If you're just looking to raid for loot and not trying to win cups then barb/arch is going to get you plenty of loot, you'll just be dropping cups too. Not intentionally, just a side effect. I also really liked giant/healer combos as a TH7. I would train one healer, 12-15 giants, 8 wbs, rest archers and some gobs if I felt like it. It was effective and still should be at that range as not many care about air defense yet. I'm fairly certain rage and a lvl 3 spell factory is available at TH7, right? If so I would definitely make that a priority. I usually ran with one rage and two lights. That way I could light a pesky mortar or rage gobs or giants or something at a critical point.

zbsouth: So your reply got me thinking, as a Town Hall level 7 and my current troop abilities, it's okay to drop cups for resources, I'm assuming. I really don't think there IS a way not to for me at 1400 trophies. I'm just used to games where you can if you're good enough, take down high level players. I'm starting to realize Clash of Clans is not like that. I've tried what you suggested before, and it still just isn't working. Really, no matter what I've tried there's been no success in raids for cups wise.

I tried the Goldstar army thing 5-6 times, and won once. It seemed to be dismantled very easily by splash damage defenses, 1-2 shots would take out 30 or so troops. I think it's just too weak of troops trying to take on too high of levels. Much like the first replyer said, no matter your strategy there's a point where you won't succeed.

zd, to reply to your build times question, there really isn't any specific time I'm looking for. As quick as possible, but not really any limit if it will work well.

You've come to the conclusion the most dont reach until late TH8 or TH9: that simultaneously trophy hunting and building your base is near impossible. Up around crystal two or so it gets a little easier. The league bonus becomes enough to offset what your spending. That's really hard to reach and sustain as a TH7 or even eight.

It is possible to continue to win as a TH7 and go up. There are a few that have made it to masters. It's a huge accomplishment and requires a lot of time but it is possible. The limiting factor is income and time.

If you really want to do both, I would recommend unlocking drags in the barracks and upgrading your minions. Running with all drags is going to be pretty successful. Running with four to six drags and the rest minions will also be pretty successful. You'll wanna carry three light to destroy one of the air defense. You could also do rage but I've had less success that way.

As far as those other armies I mentioned are concerned, I would use them 20-30 times over the course of a day or two to really get the hang of them. It took me probably 20 battles with BAM before I started winning consistently. Now I very rarely lose or fail at my goal. But it will still be difficult to get loot AND trophies.

No one on the forums is going to attack you for dropping trophies to farm. They'd just be jealous of the easy million an hour you can pull in at the right trophy range.

I was also thinking Dragons might be the way to go if I continue to be persistent in doing both. I need to upgrade my barracks and camps more - I think that's another reason my army is suffering. I haven't used Dark Troops much at all (only from reinforcements), but the Minions
might be doable with the DE yield I have had so far. I know they are pretty devastating in numbers, and I know just how devastating Dragons are first hand as people have obliterated me with them. I think that will be my goal to work on -- Unlocking Dragons and moving up troop limit. I would love to stay in Gold for the sake of my clan (most are in gold, two in crystal) and my own personal wants. :)

EDIT: I'll try the gold star in the meantime some more at your recommendation and see if I can get it working.
