Recently, i have noticed a lot of threads asking about army composition. In those threads, I have noticed that giant healer is used for farming. Now, i have used giant healer and Im not calling out anyone who uses it, but healers for farming? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this, as well as using higher tiered troops to farm with.
Ill start: I think healers could be used for farming, but only if you aren't farming walls. ;)

Healers/Giants are only more viable than ever now - just not for elixir farming. Great for DE raiding at TH9 - okay at TH 8
Just pick your targets well
I used to do the healer giant archer strategy when i was th 7, and i had enough gold for everything, but th 8 is a different story..the upgrades get big, and who can rule out the 112.5 mil gold for walls..the healer strategy would take easy 30 min per raid..at that rate of attacking one cant get lvl 8 walls done in good time. On the other hand you have BAM, 8 min for one raid if youre quick and experienced..people have used bam for de too..its worked out fine. In the end, it depends on which technique YOU can use most effectively.
I've been doing Giant/Healer most of TH8, nearly maxed (starting upgrade TH9 tonight) and will be before my TH completes, walls finished Sat, BK lvl 10, minions fully upgraded, never had an idle builder. It is a little slower than other build outs, but I think it does a much better job cracking bases, which if you are trying to get DE is more important. Also my build out can easily pick off collectors, on average I only burn a full army every 4th-5th attack since I will pick off town halls for trophies, and will pick off collectors when I can get 100K+ gold, or 500+ DE.
Build out:
2 Healer
15 Giants
6 WB
65 Archers
10 Minions (Good for picking off isolated stuff and BKs, and generally clean up if the Giants cleared out the ADs and Towers but there is still a mortar or two up)

This really Depends on what you are farming.
For gold, healer/giants is only ok, you have to use spells before you take down air defenses, that costs a lot.
For DE, it is very good combination. Nearlly everyone hides their storage in the center, you need to break through the base.
If only for gold, BAM is a better choice. I once farmed at 1400 range using BAM, typically 1.5M more per hour.
