I just opened my new sanctuary (YAY!) but I kinda sped through the Scarecrow's explanation. So i'm lost on how to get puzzle pieces.
P.S. I just saw that animal food takes 1 hr 21 mins to make WOW. I think that's a crazy long time to tie together some wheat but maybe I'm wrong. Reply with me your thoughts on the new feed. BTW I got a grey elephant what did you get?

Hey sorry about the title "to" was supposed to be "do" just noticed. :)
you get them from 3 places: derby, boats and mystery boxes (red and sea chest)
derby has 2 columns they will appear in (3 and 6, you may need to reshuffle to get both as they are not guaranteed). boats seem maxed at 2 per week - after the update most people got them on boats 1 and 3. after maintenance a week later, again most people got them after boats 1 and 3. sc has not responded, at all. and mystery boxes are a ♥♥♥♥ shoot. i haven't got a single one from free boxes, but many have, and other have got them from opening boxes with diamonds. it will take a while, it seems.
i got a beige giraffe.
ETA: the feed isn't that big a deal, you only feed them twice a day (every 10 hrs is the consensus). i have seen and bought it from friends / paper (and haven't actually had to buy from paper), it lasts a long time. otherwise, it's a good thing to put in the mill overnight
I've gotten 2 puzzle pieces from boats. 0 from mystery boxes and sea chests. I was tempted to play this week, but I decided it was a lot of work for only 2 more puzzle pieces.
3 townies have left me a gift after looking at my grey hippo, and 2 more are being serviced that want to go see him.
Congrats to the person that got 9 puzzle pieces, so far! Wow!
I also got the beige giraffe -- she seems quite sad and lonely.
I LOVE the hippos and elephants though!
Shadyacre is right -- derby horseshoes, very rare boats and both sets of mystery boxes. The boat thing is quite odd. Oh, and get used to making a set of "herbivore feed" every night and you'll be fine!
Boats that appear to follow a pattern of 2 boats a week
Derby rewards (again, up to 2 every week)
The occasional toolbox/treasure chest (I finally found one there!)
I have the muddy elephant :)
I currently have 5, from boat, boat, derby, boat, boat.
There is another one that showed up in derby; same column as a horse jump. Which one should I choose when derby ends: puzzle piece or horse jump?
But where is the rocking horse!!!!
