Keeping track of our machines production...

Sometimes I sell off every item in my barn to make a load of money fast & start all over. I ignore everything else regarding gameplay. Usually I do this before buying a new machine but this week, I did it because I upgraded the lobster pot (5th) & needed the coin. However, when I sold everything, I thought of something I wanted to ask here on the forum. Does anyone keep track of what they actually produce in a week with all their machines?

Since my barn is empty of product, I decided to start today and keep track of what my machines produce in a week over the next few weeks. I am very curious as to what I make on my farm. I will still sell in my shop or to neighbor’s boats, but I will track the actual making of the products.

I made a “tick off” list of all the products produced in machines, & as soon as something goes into production, I tick it on the list. (yeah, yeah, I have loads of time – NOT) but I do have an overt curiosity bug going on right about now.

The only thing I don’t keep track of is the sugar/dairy. I can track these by the ingredients list of each produced item if I wanted to know that too (as well as other ingredients).

During the purging of my barn, I was actively making sugar/dairy and I am proud to finally be able to say I have almost 50 of each dairy/sugars. Today I’ve only produced foods in my machines that DON’T require any sugar/dairy so I can really stock up. As soon as I have 15 of each nondairy/sugar food items made, I will start making sugar/dairy foods again. I am hoping to have about a hundred sugar & dairy of each before I start using them up.

I already keep track of every diamond I spend. I’ve done that for a few months and this is how I know that I don’t miss-spend my diamonds often. I’ve tracked every diamond and in more than 3 months I’ve only accidently spent diamonds 6 times (usually advertising accidents). Pretty good average. I keep a small notebook the size of my phone and list diamond usage or where they come in from (ei: dirt in server). It’s also produced some amazing information regarding my personal gameplay.

Why I am doing this? Just curiosity. It’s been fun so far seeing how many of the different items I’m making on my farm. Does anyone else do this or am I alone in this…lol.

I use a spreadsheet app to keep track. Eliminate the pen and paper process. You can download a real good one for free on appstore. The one i uses is called Free Spreadsheet. Yes thats really the name lol.

So you do it too? Cool, any interesting results from your spread sheet? How long have you been doing it?

I do it for different purposes, been doing it ever since i been dead serious about this game lol (i just mean addicted:p)

i am kind of really obssessed with cost vs profit. So i have a spreadsheet up to analyse the items prices, etc. i have a good enough memory, so i actually am able to mentally keep track who buy what and how many from me most of the time.

And i also uses a stock take method to manage my items, so definitely need a spreadsheet for that to manage what i am going to produce, replenish and sell.

one thing that is troublesome, is that due to filling boat orders, the probability of what to make sometimes gets messed up and priority have to be shifted.

And oh gosh, i hope more people do the same thing and post sbout it if not we are two really frigging big nerds.

Amazing. And I thought I was the only one...lol. I just downloaded the software and will check it out. I'm sort of old school still and write a lot down. I am also a writer and write my books long hand, believe it or not. I do that to keep my self from becoming too verbose. It's easy to do when you type. I transfer it all later into my laptop but still find it to be the most efficient for me due to my "chatty Cathy" syndrome...lol.

i am a chemistry grad and currently doing graduate studies on nutrition and public health (alot of data collecting as well) so doing this kind of stuff, (keeping data) has been a habit. Actually, if i dont i will feel weird. I sort of do that for every game that i play lol.

To nerd this out a little bit further, @goob, i am actually extrmely fascinated by players that sells nothing but wheat.
wheat doesnt takes long to grow, and yet so many ppl buy them, i wanted to do an experiment. Like if i sell nothing except wheat and advertising it in the paper, in 24 hrs, how many diff people will buy them and how much volume i would have shifted.

I just make stuff willy nilly. An item count showing at the machine would help. I always have to check the barn. And I check my barn at the stall. Not the barn... It's easier to see at the roadside stall. The barn list is tiny and annoying.
I make anything I have under 10 of. I keep 100 of every building item, 20 of every expansion item and 10 of everything else. Anything I have over I sell ( except sugar and dairy)

I did it recently while prepping for TT3. And took inventory afterwards and posted the results :).

i don't do it everyday however as I find flicking between apps during the game to be cumbersome.

I used to price wheat differently...

As far as I can see, the DD at lower levels does not show you a selection from upper levels. I don't remember ever coming across an item that would not be unlocked for many levels thru the DD. At the lower levels, pricing is more dominant. Coin is scarce. Eggs actually move in relation to their price.

Then when people level up, together with their neighbors, coin becomes more plentiful. Item scarcity becomes key and pricing at less than max simply is a waste. The DD is not an efficient market. If it were more efficient, and no max price were set for goods, a pricing could arise. As it is, goods scarcity is key.

i actually like it this way, it harkens back to a pre-industrial time.

And yes, I am a financial analyst and history of the capital markets is a hobby....

Hehehe. I only did it once, when I went for TT2. Like you, I also like to keep my barn inventory up. Always have a certain amount of something, but I do not have a spreadsheet. ;)

When I did my TT2 I actually had to write down what I was sending away and not being able to produce. After I sent out the 20 trucks I was able to replace the inventory because of the list. It was so stressful that it will be a while before I go for TT3.

Definitely give it a go and let us know the results. I think it's interesting. Aside from being a real farmer, a part time writer and a day trader to make my real coin (lol) I work with statistics, algorithms and more and have this need to see what my gameplay is in statistical terms. I already, in the past couple days of making products for my farm, am surprised at how much I put into my machines to produce. Keep us updated mzmflo!

Have to said that I'm a big nerd too. Sadly I have passed the cap of worrying about coins :).

I use Spreadsheet (google docs) to analyze those products hence identify what to make to earn most coins for each machine. Now my obsession for the game is to figure out game magic number such as how many field to harvest before getting a goodie....

I'm also fascinated about how the market will change with the new cool down time... gonna post a new thread about it this weekend.

mzmflo, people tends to sell wheat quickly when cool down time was 30 minutes. I doubt it will change now. Good luck with your experiment! Keep us posted.

mzmflo, people tends to sell wheat quickly when cool down time was 30 minutes. I doubt it will change now. Good luck with your experiment! Keep us posted.

Yes, I'd be interested to know what you observe too.

at lower levels I found wheat to not move unless it was priced low. Then as I leveled up it started moving. I upped price to 10 and until the last update, that's where I sold wheat at. It used to move extremely fast with players swooping in to buy 100 or so.

With the last update, maxing the price became faster and now I sell wheat at max price. It still moves fast, though I think I have noticed that people now buy 50-60. Not sure though...

You guys aren't alone! I made a spreadsheet in Excel and then uploaded it onto google docs for easy access on my iphone and ipad.

I use it to keep track of production, profit, etc. My husband thought I was crazy when he saw me doing it, but I'm a Research Analyst/Statistician so I don't know why he expected anything different! :-)

I have mentioned before that I am very picky with truck orders because I calculate the monetary and xp gained vs the cost and profit should i just sell these items straight at the RSS.

Hope this can illuminate to other players how some truck orders are simply not worth doing. :P

Thanks mzmflo - makes for interesting reading. I rarely do truck orders except for jewellery/ metal bars and did both TT2 and 3 without worrying. Just lots of stock on hand and went for it. Largely I over prepared except for apple pies and carrot juice. have a heap of bread and popcorn left:D

I have done that one and captain 3. Still citizen Kane 3 to go and a few other fishing/mining/animal ones to go but those others are the hardest.

My real life job is analysing performance figures so i do tend to try and switch it off when I come home but seeing what you guys have done makes me think that it actually could be the way forward to get the best out of your game and meet whatever your requirements are at the time

Anyhow, like I said, one need to be picky with the TO, i really don't fill much of them because most of the time, "the cake is a lie" if you get the pun. I am really all about maximising my game play lol. I did not include exact number of the bonuses in the spreadsheet but i will include an example here.

Now, if this is an order without event, completing it will only gain 827g + 80g and 356xp (incld bonus).
And if you wondered how i derived with the magic number 80g for 10% bonus, I can tell you that i did not get that on my own, its what the game gave me when I completed that order, same goes to the XP bonus.

So, I calculated per item, 4 of those items, if you receive a 10% for EACH because the tooltip said "All goods", technically we should get a extra $113g (rounded to nearest decimal) based on max RSS selling price. if the bonus is based off total coins earned, i am still getting less. If the 10% is based off default price, then it definitely should be lesser than 80g.

So, ignoring the xp factor aside, most of the truck orders are losses for the player especially if you are the kind of player that buys off people to fill instead of making your own products. So, with every order i fill, I do this kind of comparison. I usually just do it mentally and flick off whatever is not profitable with time spent vs xp gained, and cost vs profit gained. To me, it seems like SC is creating a subtle gold sink. It looked like you are actually profiting, but you are really not.

Am i being too nitpicky? LOL i enjoy doing this though.

Hey! I keep track too and was thinking of creating a spreadsheet. I thought that might be too geeky of me, so imagine my relief when I came across this thread! Lol. Right now I'm old school, just ticking items off on a handwritten list for TT3. I noticed today though that all my items I made yesterday and overnight are not piling in front of my machines. They seem to be lost. <sniffle> and I made a bunch of new items too. before last night's maintenance my items always piled in front of the machines with the last items I made showing on top and the first to be picked up. Now I don't see them and they're not picked up when I grab the first few items.

i know I've seen others with this issue but can't find thread and there's no response under the bugs/issues category. Has anyone run into this? Any advice on how to fix or do I wait for supercell? Is there a way to report this other than the bugs/issues category? First time I've had an issue.

Sorry to hear that! I would suggest opening up a support ticket for lost items.

Under the captains thread you can find my post for what I served up during my TT3 run. I took inventory before and after and posted the results. Original order board plus 5 of each item is more than sufficient.

and yep, original board + 5 of each will do. some arent even used i had so much surplus. But I would suggest you to wait until a truck order event to do it so you can really benefit from it, if not its a loss in $$.

if you want to do it now, you have 1 1/2 day of the event left. running time are about 15 mins, you cant really hurried it cause the truck is slow to drive back.

I was looking through some old threads and saw someone else who had the geeky habit of tracking items in a spreadsheet. It looks a little outdated, but it definitely focuses on profit, xp, etc.

Price - Maximum amount that item can be sold in the roadside market, for a unit of 1.
Time (Min) - The time, in minutes, that is required to build/produce/grow that item in its respective spot.
XP - The amount of experience (or stars) generated by the production of that item (when you collect it).
$/Min - The MAX price per minute of production.
$/Hour - The MAX price per hour of production. The higher the number the better.
$/Day - The MAX price in 24 hours of production. The higher the number the better.
