I believe having a different server for each iOS and Android would be best for both the community and the game, if and when all the kinks have been ironed out, a server merge for both platforms would be amazing.

This is pointless since android users do not even have this game available to them.

If they do have different servers, then it may take a while for resource heavy collector bases to flourish. I may not play CoC on my phone with the addictive drive I do on my IPad though because of the smaller screen.
They announced at the meetup that they will have clash of clans for android
