Game Specialists

Now I know these players are chosen by the mods and for all intents and purposes, that is how it should be.

But for me, input from the regular players on this forum must be taken as being relatively valuable when the mods come to the selection process.

Over the last few weeks there has been one poster in particular that stands out from the rest. I am confident in saying I don't really need to post the credentials of this player as his posts speak for themselves.

I am also sure that the majority on this forum would also agree that this player is worth of a GASP title.

Anyway, I don't know this player from Adam. But I am always particularly impressed by his knowledge of pretty much everything to do with clash.

So if regular forumers were able to have any input on the selection process, then OnyxDS gets my vote.

forumers should be able to suggest people for GAPSs, but only mods or other GASPs should decide.

Bmille3, Micheallo & Mmmaka3M are also stellars forumers. I believe we need more GASPs who are highly impressive in Clash Royale cos while I think in CoC there are plenty of GASPs regularly making their presence felt while in CR it's only NightmareX & Siddmaster.

So, can we have some GASPs who are much involved in CR?

On a last note, I don't play CoC but I do have heard or read about OnyxDS and he does sound awesome to me as well.

i remember there been a post a while a go in the Gasp sub forum from mods asking for suggestions, a lot of names got thrown around a few were picked, i think it's just a numbers thing as to why they dont add more at the moment, certainly are quite a few valuable posters around.

I don't think it matters if someone is a fresh spawn with no reputation. If they make good posts, I'd take their advice.

Well, GASPs are chosen by Supercell for their knowledge of the game. People with high rep have it because they have valuable insight, as decided by the community. There's a lot of overlap, so I'd say it doesn't really matter. Though that's not to say anyone shouldn't be heeded at all. I judge posts one at a time, not by the poster

My vote goes to Sammy and Bmille. I have seen outstanding CR content from them. They are in my list of top forumers.

I think CR need more GASps. NightmareX and Siddmaster sometimes isnt active, and i rarely see Nightmare now. I know mmmaka3m is a great forumers, but dont expect too much from 27 years old Part time biology teacher :smirk:.

Thanks for the input guys, it just shows why forumers can play an important role in the selection process imo. There are some names mentioned in this thread that I had not heard off although admittedly I don't frequent the other platform forums.

I do not believe one should pay more heed to a GASP or a fresh spawn simply by looking at their post count or their title. It will always be the quality of the post that gets my attention. The titles imo are a recognition of a continued show of knowledge about the game and thus you can generally expect a more in-depth reply (should the thread warrant such a reply) from somebody with a GASP title.

That led me to the reason to start this thread in the first place. Over the last couple of weeks the posts by Ony on some issues that have been raised have really impressed both as to their quality and their content.

As far as GASP material goes, I think my top 2 would be mmmaka3m and OynxDs though. They just fit the mold perfectly imo.

On this note, I'm just back from my exams which have been over the course of exactly a month.
I'll be a lot more active for these two weeks before my holiday which I still hope to be active a lot, during.

Hasn't this turned into a nomination and request thread? It's nice to think about being worthy and working for a role but at the end of the day, it will come naturally without prompt.

This is about the only difference to regular forum members, we have additional places to discuss things with each other and the mods. Nothing that happens there is secret, for example the NDA the mods sign extends also to saying no more to GASPs than anyone else about future development. And yes, our communication channel has the occasional cat meme, if anyone was wondering.

I know those priviliges are important when Mods squad are inactive. But under any circumstances, priviliges to do such thing should only given to Mods. I know its a good idea, but Mods should have some discussion about this first.

Nice hearing from you Nightmarex - seen your name pop up during this thread.

I don't think this thread is or should be turned into a nomination and request thread. That was not my intention really. I just wanted to put it out there that recently anyway Ony has absolutely stood out for me from the crowd in the clash forums. I do not believe he is looking for any sort of recognition for his time or for the contribution he makes to the clash forums although I don't think you was insinuating that he was but more just making a generalised point which I agree with ofc.

His posts, when the situation requires it, are very full and in-depth and indeed make me think wow at times. I like to think I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to clash but I crikey, I am quickly reminded I know very little when Ony posts something :p

I was also not sure whether the mods asked for views when it came to the selection process and that was another reason for starting the thread as whilst the mods do a good job on the forums, they obviously don't see every post one makes and that is where the regular forumers could assist to a certain extent.

But in any event it has turned into an interesting thread with some names being mentioned that I'd previously not heard as I don't travel the other platform forums, so if anything, at least I've got to see input from a few others :)

Can't be done as its a limitation of the VBulletin program used for this forum.

But we have been known to use shock collars to wake the Mods up when they are sleeping and the forum is flooded with skin care products....

I have to say this that every single person with a GASPs title I've come across are totally worth the title. Only thing is that while there's perhaps more than 10 GASPs, only 2 of them can be seen in Clash Royale forum. So, hopefully Mods can also take this factor into consideration while selecting new one's.

Hay Day sounds much alike Clash Royale, we only have 2 GASPS. Perky & Cowslips, they are both great; but just the 2 seems a bit light on.

As much as I think you are right you have to think of it in terms as numbers, there will always be more in Coc as opposed to to CR, HD, BB and quite a few more at the time of writing this message there is arond 3200 people on CoC, just over 1000 on CR, 600 on HD and 540 odd on BB. So everything is relevant. As there are more people viewing CoC than the other 3 put together.

While the number of active forum member is different. Majority of CR forum members are new members, since the game is just released around 1,5 years ago. And not too many people understand about the game mechanics. CoC is old game. CR is new born baby, need more GASp to take care of this new baby.

Definitely, CoC being the game with most traffics needs to have more GASPs compared to other 3 games. But still, 2 GASPs in CR is like a small Gold Fish in a huge lake. Maybe, they can pick GASPs as per traffics each forums received.

Say, CoC gets a traffic of 3000 people on average, while CR has 2000, Hay day 1500 & BB 1000 as well. So maybe, for 500 people on average in each forum we can have 1 GASPs. Thus, CoC, CR, Hayday, BB can have 6, 4, 3, 2 GASPs in it respectively. Note that this is just an example based on my assumptions as I dunno the actual numbers.

Having said that, it's also worth noting that Mods presence is also much in CoC compared to other forums. So, I think CoC can do with less GASPs ratio wise compared to other forums as it's a well settled forum having lasted multiple years. So, definitely it's bound to have more no.of sound forumers to take care of things there while CR is pretty new compared to it and definitely can improve as a forum if it gets a bit more necessary attention.

Your numbers I believe are way out as most times when I am on there is always more in CoC than all the other 3 put together and although the premise of what you are saying makes sense. The thing you need to remember is GASPs have no forum powers whatsoever. So the number per forum is irrelevant really.

CR regulars would serve their favourite forum a whole lot better if they started addressing queries and not expect a GASP to do the mundane. While I don't know the numbers, it certainly appears IFR is very active but not do the other areas.

Well, they do exhibit the added power of being a bit more than just an average forumer. People somehow look upto them for the reason they believe that those guys have that title while they don't. So, some rely on them for informations and answers while mods are not on or are busy to reply to an individual. So, yes GASPs title doesn't bring any special power but it does add responsibility on those few chosen one and that responsibility can also be termed as a sort of power.

Yes, CR IFR is pretty active for a niche sub forum and it's only because of 10-15 posters there taken immense responsibility to keep it going which is simply commendable.

Of course, you are 100% right, I thought you were coming from the angle you needed more power in the forums as in to be able to close, move threads etc.

I see no reason why there shouldn't be lots of GASP's per forum. For the reasons that they don't have the power to physically effect the forum. But can really help mods out.

And yet they rarely offer their knowledge to the issues raised in current game forum/sub-forums and spend an inordinate amount of time devising how IFR should function. The forums should benefit current games and current game users foremost.

The forums functioned pre-GASP. While GASPs offer much to the forum and we are better off now they are a forum feature, if we rely on them the turnover will inevitably be too high and quite likely cumulative experience will reduce not increase.

Well certainly it wasn't the power I was talking about. Glad that the confusion is settled even before it could be raised. As far as I'm concerned power is something that should only be in the hands of the few. Too many people's will power of equal kind would be chaos.

It's the presence and ambience these poster with GASPs creates certainly uplifts the forum overall experience. They kinda by default serve as some sort of Supercell representatives and this is good enough power for them to have.

Thing is somehow for all possible reasons I feel that the hard working people's in IFR are often neglected. This somehow is a discouraging factor that might eventually detriment the quality bar those few guys have kept high for so far. The reason is lack of acknowledgements. Though this is single word, the power it holds is immense. So, I do hope somehow the responsible one's start acknowledging deserving works and efforts. And, an increase in no.of GASPs can certainly help in these.

We have vastly different opinions on how effective the hard working folks have really been in keeping the bar high. Long threads are devoted to issues which don't relate to the game, plague every IFR and continue to plague CR IFR. Many suggested solutions just serve to disenfranchise others. Most issues are better resolved with mod intervention by merging and closing threads. A GASP doesn't have that power. Forum users have the power to report such threads, a mod can review/act and there is no need for a sub-forum rework or GASP at all.

CR forum overall is crying out for people to assist people requesting help. No amount of GASPs will suffice unless CR forum regulars start frequenting the areas that really require attention. There is no doubt a GASP would help but if that person is to be drawn for CR regulars, they need to perform across the board. With 12 from 20 threads over 13 hours being unanswered but all with multiple views in the CR Bugs sub-forum, it seems no CR regular is equipped to take on the role.

Appointing GASPS is not an acknowledgement to all participants in a forum they have done a stellar job (if indeed they have). I fail to see how a forum regular feeling discouraged would suddenly feel acknowledged because a GASP was appointed in CR, unless they were the GASP.

The only thing remotely approaching tangible acknowledgement is the FRS and many people survived on the odd "kudos to you" post before it was implemented. I agree acknowledgement of effort is a good thing, but it shouldn't be an expectation.

Let me interrupt you quickly here and tell that I may not know about other IFRs but CR IFR has lot more improved in recent months. The IFR is booming with card ideas, game QoLs etc. So, the forumers there are certainly keeping the bars high quality wise and it's upto the officials to see whether their ideas fit in the realms of the game.

I can comment on the Bugs sub forum cos that's a place I literally would be useless cos of my lack of technical knowledge. But though General and Card Balance Discussion has a good flow of complaint & rant thread but nevertheless amidst all of those pointless thread one is bound to find one thread that's pretty much holds the answers to the on going queries. It's just that some will have to look a bit harder. Having said that, no offense but I barely see you in these 3 sub forums of CR, especially, IFR where right now I'm mostly active and thus it feels a bit like an irony that you're are complaining or raising questions about those sub forums. It feels as if you're carrying onto some bad experiences you had in there. Again no offenses cos I maybe wrong.

Coming to considering or seeing GASPs as an acknowledgment or not, well it's bound to differ from people to people and as much as my observations tells people's in sub forums where I have spent my most of the time does see it as an acknowledgment and yes people do look upto GASPs. While you may say things shouldn't be entitled to expectations well to that I'll say that even the world thrives on expectations and hopes.

The fundamental issue is you want more CR GASPs as an acknowledgement to work being done in the CR forums. Yes, I'm saying that is a poor expectation. GASPs should add value to a forum with their range of knowledge and experience. If the forum users range limits their ability to cover the topics raised, they are a not really a game specialist. They might be a card or deck or arena specialist, maybe all three, but not a game specialist. If mods decide that is enough you may get your wish.

Well you dropped your argument from "No expectation" to "Poor expectation" and it shows you're losing grip here. Also, you're more focused in defining GASPs qualitifications while I'm merely asking for a raise in GASPs numbers. There's a difference in both.

Also, this is very much an hypothetical answer to say that I visit other forums but I don't take part in all. It's more like saying, "I went on a world tour and I don't speak about it doesn't mean I dunno about the entire world". No offense but being a visitor and taking active part in there are both extremely different things. What's on the surface doesn't stays the same beneath till its deepest end.

You will only see more GASPs when there are people capable and willing. Right now, I don't believe their are many, if any that are capable. Why do I think this way. Because I read the CR forums. It's downright insulting and ignorant to suggest someone visiting can't evaluate a population.

I'm saying your expectation that GASPs should be appointed as an acknowledgment is flawed and it's a poor expectation given it doesn't reflect their overall game knowledge. There should be no expectation of reward with GASP for effort in the absence of overall knowledge and experience.

CR IFR has the same issues as every IFR. You don't have to visit them if you are accepting of that point. But if you do, you will see repeated requests for identical things, repeated requests for ruled out items, threads that aren't actually ideas but balance discussion, threads that don't venture past a name without specs, etc, etc, etc. To a great extent the same applies in every General/General Discussion.

If your was point is limited to "more GASPs for CR" and not morphed into the additional "acknowledgement for effort", I could agree with everything you have posted.

Just because you don't see one eligible for that title doesn't mean their isn't. There is a decent number of great posters in the forum right now. Apologies, if that felt insulting but it's a common sense fact that one who has been spending his hours replying to post in a sub forum will certainly have more knowledge than someone who's just a visitor. The poster active in the sub forum is bound to have more awareness and knowledge about things happening there than one who simply is a frequent visitor and mostly oversees things there.

That's my problem too. I'm used to a bugs and problems section containing problems that are more related to confusion about gameplay. Anytime I venture there I'm met with tech problems that I don't have a prayer of knowing how to answer. Basically, if it's something a reboot won't solve and I can't figure it out through random trial and error, then it's above my head

True. But, honestly, most threads (I'd say over 75%) are really "Contact Supercell Support" answers that can be given. There are others though. In CR B&P I see some threads that aren't "bugs" or "problems" but it's more not understanding a game mechanic on their end.

If I see a thread saying "Unfair ban" I will report it and let the mods say "Bans are nonnegotiable." If a problem is beyond my area of knowledge, I'll let it sit there.

One thing that can be frustrating is most threads are made by fresh accounts. That in of itself isn't a problem, but it's more they might not come back to see if anyone responded. If they don't get a response right away, they might just not come back at all. Especially since I feel most people think the forums are like a texting app where you instantly see the response but you have to reload the site to see if you got a response.

That could partially be due to more or less inactivity in B&P, and I'll do my best to be more active in CoC, BB, and CR B&P from now on

Thank you daz for the kind words. To my delight and surprise, an awesome Mod invited me to join the GASP team and sent an attachment listing the rules a GASP must follow. It was only 100 pages long so it's light reading for me. My first thought was when will the Mod Squad quiz me on the rules and will it be be open book and will I be graded on a curve with the other GASP recruits?

Just kidding. The rules are written succinctly on ten pages. Kidding again. It's on only one page. :)

When I was offered GASP ( Which totally happened obviously how could you not offer Greg GASP? ) the mod told me that a certain GASP which I will not name for obvious reasons was told the GASP rules but couldn't hold himself ( Oops did I just reveal his gender? ) and released the info so he had to write all 200 rules by hand and now a photo of it is stickied in the super special GASP corner.

There was only one rule repeated 200 times which was:

I love the way this thread has gone. It was not really my intention to start a debate on the subject of GASPS per se. I originally just wanted to highlight my thoughts on a particular player that I felt was worthy of the title of GASP.

I have enjoyed however reading the posts from some of the other players who have joined this thread from other platforms whom I've not had the pleasure of coming across previously. It is clear there are a number of members who are held in high regard and are very well respected which is very good to see.

Perhaps one of the best things about playing clash of clans for me personally is being able to come to the forums for guidance and assistance and to also join in some fun and healthy debates. The forums are a valuable place in the clash world and of course the forum members are what make that so.

I've not once thought that any particular player with a title here has not been worthy of it.

Eh? No we don't. GASPs are chosen by mods, regardless of reputation
