80 million users love Kik!
Kik is the fast, simple and personal smartphone messenger. What's not to love?
Our beliefs
We believe we’re at the beginning of the smartphone era – one of the most transformative changes of our generation, comparative to the rise of the first personal computer or the creation of the Internet. For the first time in history, we have a device that isn’t just a tool. Your smartphone is actually part of you: always on, always connected, and always with you. We see it as an implant. It just hasn’t been implanted yet.
We believe this will let us interact with the real world tomorrow, as easily as we interact with the virtual world today - and completely redefine how people connect with each other and their environment. Kik is at the helm of this once-in-a-lifetime paradigm shift. A smartphone messenger is just where we chose to start.
Our story
Kik was founded in 2009, when a small but incredibly passionate group of University of Waterloo students decided to build a company that would shift the center of computing from the PC to the phone.
Fast forward to today, and Kik Messenger has become the simplest, fastest, most life-like chat experience you can get on a smartphone. But Kik isn’t just about instant messaging. Kik fans are already exchanging videos, sketches, smileys and more, with apps that have been built using our Kik API. And we've just introduced Kik Cards, features built in HTML5 that let users search for and send YouTube videos, find and share images, Reddit pics and GIFs, and create sketches and memes - without leaving Kik and without downloading anything new!
To top it all off, we’re backed by major name-brand VC’s - the same firms that first helped Twitter, Foursquare, Zynga and others rise to world domination.
With over 80 million beloved Kik fans and a phenomenal team, our plans are well underway.
We need help
We’re growing fast. And changing fast. We’re always looking for brilliant, dedicated perfectionists to join our team. If you believe the smartphone is going to revolutionize the world, and you’d like to be part of making that happen, please go to our Careers page and get in touch with us. We’d love to hear from you.

ps: there is google for everything
Simpler definition: it is an App for sending messages. I see it as a way to send someone a text message without getting a phone number.
It's no different than using Yahoo messenger on your computer.
It is a very helpful tool when you want to trade with someone. Sending PMs or emails can be cumbersome when you are trying to set up a trade. Using KIK is much easier, IMO
I'm guessing you can download it to an iPod touch.
I did a quick search on App Store application on my iPod Touch, Kik is available for download :). What they mean by smartphone is rather phone based on Android, iOS and Windows Phone.
What it is was answered. I have it on both my iPad and my android phone. Pretty good and I have used or tried out many different IM/messaging programs over the years.
Only thing I don't like is that it is not available for the PC. :(
I also discovered "logging off" is a pain.. You have to go to settings the click "Rest KIK messenger". Scary wording but all it does is shut down the program.
Thank you everyone for answering my question. I am going to the App Store.
