I was wondering if anyone knows how close a giant has to be to a defense tower with no walls around it to target that over something else that is right next to it but does have a wall around it?

I would like to know that as well, interesting question.
That is an interesting question,
Giants will mostly (attack defences outside wall if they are easier to get to), i would say depending on your position and alignment of placement will determine were they will go.
However, what i have also noticed is when you release them and you get through a wall for instance, if next defence are beyond another wall depending on which, side of the defence the giant is attacking they can go there separate ways. Unless you open a wall before they break open another side, they will change there course.
Thanks for the tip Rapid.
I'm mainly asking because I want to design a new base layout. And wanna have certain things unprotected by walls to distract giants and whatnot. If I can figure out the exact number of squares it takes for them to backtrack outside of the walls then I think I can make a pretty solid design.
Funnels are most probably the best designs vs giants i urge you to try them and put spring traps. I single spring trap can throw 5 giants maximum which, can be very effective.
Best of luck to you :)
They will target a defense up to 13-15 squares away before banging on walls.
On my old TH7 base, the funneling along with well-placed upgrading defenses used to have them walking entire side of the base leaving healers behind to get picked off.
Well giants bashing on the black wall is hardly a good strategy anyway so if one would want giants to go deeper instead of going to the side he will send more wbs. Right?
If you push back the spawn area and use outside buildings to path the wb's, you can get them going one way while giants go a different way, especially in the case of noob attackers who don't bring enough wb's. Put a tesla near air defense etc.
They will target from anywhere on the map you put them actually, like i said it depends on placement of your troops that differs the outcome of your attack.
i made this a few months ago, i admit its not the best video but it was my first upload, but you will see how difficult the base is, but i still 100% because i knew what i was doing.
Hope it helps.
