I have not purchased the net maker and I can't buy the lobster pool yet. I was considering buying the net maker, but after reading some of the posts I don't know if I will.
So many are disappointed with the results they are getting.
If you had it to do over would you buy the net maker and/or lobster pool?
SC's team have read about the disappointment and unhappiness regarding issues with the update, and are looking into it..?? The answer to your question is yes, because the new elements add more variety.

My net maker is predominantly used to make lobster traps. I'll load fish nets at night to run while I sleep (4 queue slots).
I can wait on mystery nets since I don't mind trading for what I need.
I would buy them again. But I have expanded my entire fishing area. I would, however, really consider it very carefully if I have only expanded one or two areas in my fishing area. The lobster and fishing nets both take a long time to finish trapping the lobster & fish and during that time you cannot fish in that area at all. This might limit your ability during that time to fill boats or truck orders requiring fish products.

While its a nice feature it hasn't really been much of a useful item, more of an expensive entertainment add-on. My opinion.
Yes, I would do it all again.
I don't see myself using the fishing net so often yet as I don't see it as time efficient, but I could change my mind as I often do when I get used to how things work. I'm not to thrilled with the Mystery net at the moment, but they are aware of the variety issue and are looking into fixing it, so I'll be using diamonds on it here and there later on.
I very much like the lobsters, traps, and new products. Sure they take a long time and are expensive, but that's because they were added to increase the challenge and allure of the game and, for me, they do just that pleasantly.
I also especially get a kick out of the little "wheeeeee!" the lobsters squeal out. :)

So, since you are level 40, i say NO to net maker first (I know its TEMPTING! everytime I go to the fishing area it kept asking me to unlock, HARDEN YOUR RESOLVE :D)

edit: i just want to say i added in my opinion of it because most of the other players that have replied to you, do notice they are all above level 50 with the exception of bobbyrae (but i will still assume bobby already have the coffee machine prior to that and at level 46 even after unlocking all the current update items, will still have 5 levels to save gold to buy candy maker), which mean they already have ALL the machines, they are not in a situation like us whereby we still need to make choices. I hope you take that into consideration.
Mzmflo - that sounds like a solid plan to follow. And you are right, there is no benefit to the net maker til you need it to catch lobsters.
I tried out both fish nets and will not be using them again. They are not worth the time they take to collect the fish. At least not for some one like me who plays almost non-stop.
