I live in the Dallas area. We have a very sad anniversary coming up next week, of a horrifying assassination that my Dad was an eyewitness to. We in this city are still not finished healing after 50 years, but at least for the last 20 years we are embracing history and talking openly about how it changed our country and this city. That's better than all those decades where Dallas tried to just forget about 22 Nov 1963 and act like nothing happened here to a young President and a divided country.
Just my opinion.

Have you seen any really pretty farms? I see them here and there. I really enjoy how nice they look, especially since I'm not a creative person. And my farm is quite simple. Do any of you have pictures of such farms and could you post them here?
Thanks for the memorial, Perky. Crazy your dad was a witness. Hard to believe it's 50 years already. Time sure does march on.
I always really enjoy your field art, Perky, I never know what to do with mine. Except this time. :) inspired by a comment iam made awhile ago, I took a stab at creating a candy cane and a snowflake with my fields. I wonder if rice would be a better white... am not at that level yet.:o

I just stopped by your farm -- candy cane and snowflake are CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!
Peachie wants to do a Chriatmas Tree and some crossed candy canes with our fields -- after the Thanksgiving turkey.
I said I probably can't do a turkey -- but maybe turkey TRACKS :) :) :)
Yes, Dad was a brand-new reporter for WBAP-TV Channel 5, a station based in Fort Worth (30 miles west of Dallas). Since WBAP was a FW station, of course they sent their senior reporters to cover the most important local story (in their judgement): The Kennedys leaving Fort Worth to visit Dallas.
My Dad, a veteran cameraman Floyd Bright, and a junior cameraman named Jimmy Darnell were dispatched to cover the lesser story of the day -- Kennedy's visit to DALLAS.
Dad and Floyd were on Dealey Plaza when the motorcade went by. They hit the deck when the shots rang out. Jimmy was in the motorcade and jumped out when he heard the shots and started filming what was around him. His video of Dealey Plaza is on youTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2B2dceTcl8
Later Jimmy got to Parkland, and climbed onto the roof overlooking the morgue. He got film of Kennedy's body being brought out and loaded into a hearse headed for Love Field and Air Force One. That film was confiscated by the secret service and not seen for over 40 years.
I used to play with Jimmy's kids when I was young -- Dad and Jimmy were always good friends.
I was very fortunate that my Dad was able to take me to the exact spot he was standing at on his last trip to Dallas before he had a stroke. And I was lucky that he was able to tell me the whole story one last time so that I could preserve it for my girls.
