Member has left my clan because of no elders?

My clan is elder-free and co-leader-free. It means there will be no elders and co-leaders. I don't trust anyone who asks for a promotion because then he/she will do something that wasn't intended to happen (like kicking everyone who is one rank below him/her).

We lost a champion league player because of this.

The member who left my clan is in war. It is preparation day right now. I could've told him to "do me a favour and use both attacks in war before you leave". It was too late. I have sent him a friend request so that I can invite him back.

And it isn't necessary to grow my clan until the last hour of battle day. (Some might disagree)

Sad but true story.

Well, having lots of co's and elders makes a clan looks unprofessional, but having none is just as bad.

Let me explain this with an analogy: Would you like a law submitted by the president of your country if it wasn't approved by the counsel and many other organisms?

Having only a leader in a clan feels like that you explained: lack of trust; and a clan should be made with trust as the base of it or it will just not grow.

Of course, with enough time you could find people who like that kind of clan, but you will really struggle in keeping them. I know I wouldn't stay in a clan with 20+ players without even a single elder.

With no promotions, what is there to want in the clan? You can't blame him really...and I understand where you're coming from when you say you want to make sure people don't ruin your clan but trust can be earned...chances are if a player sticks around for more than a month they're loyal. And what can they do with elder besides kick a person every 20 minutes? Loosen up, and learn how to infer what people are going to do before they do it!

Scared of destroying your clan? Only those that demand leadership or being an overall jerk and borderline toxic would do that, your job as a leader is monitor your clanmates' behavior and enforce rules whenever necessary.

Your clan is dysfunctional. With no leadership besides you that can distribute work throughout the clan, what is there to gain in the clan? It's simple to see if someone is fit for a role or not. Run wars, check who contributes and who doesn't, those who generally have good ratios and excelling in war are the possible candidates for promotion.

However, I do agree in the fact that the guy's simply trying to beg for promotion for no apparent reason, you shouldn't be scared in losing members who are only after promotions. Take your time in recruiting and wait for the right people to come in.

Well to be fair to that member, in what we see above he didn't say to make him an elder, just to make some elders. And he's likely right, the clan needs a leadership structure, not just a leader. Of course it needs the right ones. Leaving before doing his war attacks wasn't cool, so I think you can see from that he wasn't one for that sort of job, but surely there must be one or two others in the clan who are solid and trustworthy?

Yeah, I got to agree with him and everyone else. That's a stupid policy. I wouldn't want to be part of a clan where 1 person had all the power and flat out refused to ever promote anyone else.

I think it's stupid to not have anyone else with any rank in the clan. It makes you look untrusting, immature, and a control freak. The guy wasn't necessarily asking for himself to be promoted, but just for some promotions to be duly handed out. Straight away this clan looks like a dictatorship, and is something that I wouldn't want to be a part of at all. I would have left too if I were in his shoes.

Loosen up a bit, and give people some room to grow in your clan.

I would have left also. A clan with only a leader is bad. This shows distrust and being a control freak. You cant be on 24/7 so it'll nice to have others take some responsibility. Because you were distrustful and a control freak now you have your wish of being the only leader in the clan.

I agree with all the above. It sends a bad signal that you don't trust anyone else in your clan. Hard to build up like that.

Just give loyal and good members higher ranks and kick new guys who ask for elder/co. Idiots who try to destroy clans usually ask for elder very early and leave if you tell them they have to earn it.

I hardly ever give promotions, but i do give them when someone earns it. But i do have some co's and elders. You cant handle a clan all by yourself. It is impossible. So you do need some help. After you have built your leaderboard, then you can start being picky.

Apologies if this sounds harsh, but I don't see much of a purpose to your clan. It would seem to lack any social aspect and would not encourage hard core players to stay with you. As with all things, the clan has to have a goal.

I'm the 3rd leader of a very mature clan and our co-leaders are considered on the same level as me. We could not be where we are without the cooperation of all of us. Quite frankly, I wouldn't last long as leader if everything fell on my shoulders alone.

I wouldn't stay in your clan either, I'd figure you were a control freak & I've been on one too many of clans with those types of leaders.

I don't blame him. That is a bad policy. You need help. If someone has been in your clan, donates, attacks in war, and doesn't beg for a promotion after only two days, then they aren't likely to f your clan up when given that promotion. I've been with the same guys for nearly two years. We have a handful of co's that know what is expected of the clan members. We send messages, war strategies, we can kick members if we need to, and we accept/deny membership requests. You could lose just as many players by letting in an individual who is donating incorrect troops or being a jerk in chat stay because you aren't there to handle it. This is a team game, and like any other team game you have to trust your mates to do their job.

who would stay in a clan where there was just a leader and all members? you don't really expect to build a clan like that, do you? begging for promotions is one thing, but there has to be at least a few others with positions of a bit more power than just member. dictatorships /= good clan.

and just another thing about the guy who left in war...not that I can really blame him...but a common mistake new clan leaders make is starting a war as soon as they have enough players. best to wait til you have loyal players in your clan before committing to war.

basically, you simply cannot expect to have a successful clan that has no elders/co leads. you can't be on all the time...comes across as a being a bit of a control freak...

OP I can understand your paranoia but you're taking it to the extreme. Not giving anyone Co. is fine imo but you need to be a little more flexible on the elder promotions. You can't be online 24/7 so you're stunting the Clans growth. Set a requirement for elder & just let the chips fall where they land. If they leave because they don't want to earn it don't worry about it. They were probaly going to bounce anyway.

There's no incentive to contribute through donations, or excel in war. There's no reason to go above and beyond the standard.

Even if someone is surpassing someone else in war performance, or in donations they'll be recognized as the same.

You basically want people to spend their resources, and contribute to the growth of YOUR clan. A clan is supposed to a group of

close-knit people, who are trusting of one another. But you don't care about that. You don't care about anyone. You will never succeed with this mindset.

The champ who left on preparation did a good job on giving you a lesson. I need not say more on why you should have elders and co-leaders as many commented on it. You said "I control the clan". Well, I'm a clan leader too and I have elders and co leaders; they earn it all. I control the clan, however the rest of them contributed and makes everything in the clan functional. I give them credits for it. I lead, not boss. You need to change your ways too.

OP I have just read over your other forum posts and there is a bit more going on here than you present: new clan started with no support beyond yourself doing it solo, lots of traffic in and out, rushed base for leader, lowish th base as leader, leader who was willing to go on tour leaving a mini in change, and the member who suggested a week ago there should be elder (or at least make him elder, not clear as we have you saying it not his words in that post). It's up to you how you want to go from here, but one possibility is that the time isn't yet ripe for starting and running your own clan, until more is in place to make that clan attractive to good members who want to stay and build it with you.

OP, the other posts are right. What if something happens to the leader? There's no backup, no fall back. The clan dies with you.

Do you never go on vacation? Never take a break? You do all the war scheduling and recruiting on top of growing your own base(s)? How many years are you committed to doing all of this?

Probability-wise I think, even if you do find ppl willing to stay in your clan, you are going to burn yourself out as leader and the clan is going to crumble anyway.

I am going to be completely honest here. I do not think you are mature enough to be a leader. A leader must delegate, a leader must trust, a leader must make sound decisions for the better of the clan. A leader must be open to learn from others and from their mistakes. My advice to you would be to get into a well organized clan and to learn. From what I can tell from your other posts is that you are not ready, nor mature enough, to be a leader of a successful clan. And the key word here is successful. Best of luck

I've made it simple in my clan.. do both your attacks in war and you get elder. Demotions come with missed attacks, wrong troop donations, etc.

Donate lots of troops and generally be cool and you will make Co.

Lots of elders only 2 co's right now but a couple are working on it. Gotta keep that carrot dangling.. lol Give it away and nobody wants it.

This system seems to work pretty well and has made things way less stressful. People need some easy to understand rules or it all falls apart. :cool:

Elder is one of the least important things in the game. I tend to roll my eyes when somebody asks for it, especially if they're new. But, it's pretty hard to abuse too. I can only think of 1 person that I made elder upon their request that abused it. He insta-accepted anybody that requested to join. That was a pretty easy fix though.

Co, though, I can't imagine not having co's, for 2 reasons.
1. It gives new members people to look to for how things work, what is/isn't acceptable in the clan, etc.
2. While there's value in sometimes having 1 person take charge, I can't imagine running a clan solo. Sometimes real life gets hectic, and it's helpful to have somebody else take charge of things when you're busy. There's also value in a group of people discussing decisions instead of 1 person deciding everything. I'm a bit more engaged in the clash community than most of my coleaders, but my clan would definitely be weaker if I tried to run it by myself.

Trust issue aside , You simply can't be online 24/7 , Physically impossible and it will drain your energy out .an elder can't really do anything to ruin a clan but a coleader can , so choose those wisely .

It also depends on the purpose of your clan , For example , We have a feeder for training purposes and friendly wars that we filled with random low level players to keep it semi active while we are away , and since we can't be in both clans at the same time we promoted everyone elder so that they don't kick each other , and only assigned Co's from our main clan , Perhaps it is not a perfect strategy but it is keeping us less worried about the feeder clan for now and it is keeping all noobs happy 😜.

Put simply everyone wants to feel it's OUR clan, not YOUR clan !

In a team game everyone needs to feel part of the team, otherwise all there contributions go unrewarded.

Your clan won't work, @op. Not having co-leaders is ok-ish (but having at least one is very important, what if you get temp banned while chatting on global). Not having elders will make a clan impossible to run. Ideally, you want an elder that is a night owl or lives in a different time zone, to handle the clan duties while you are sleeping. Also, if you aren't a no-lifer, you could use some people that aren't busy while you are busy with RL stuff.

Sure, if you can find a BFF to help you run the clan, it's better. The cold truth is that you just need a few sane-ish people to help you with clan management, past a certain number of members. You don't even need to be friends, all it takes is working towards a common goal. Get some elders first and keep an eye on them, get a co few months later.

OP: start by making the best people in your clan elders. They won't be able to kick too many (I think there's a timer). Then wait for a week or so and then make them cos if they don't kick anyone (doubt they will. Most people are nice, surprisingly)

I've got one Co for every 10 people in my clan, and most of the rest are elders. I trust my cos and they help out a lot. Promote people to co based on activity and earnestness, not on th or exp lv. A th8 who logs in all the time is more valuable than a th11 who is barely on and doesn't donate much.

Assign people different roles. Have a couple of cos in charge of war (filling ccs etc). Have a few more in charge of recruiting maybe. Rotate tasks so they don't get boring.

Once you've got a good set of cos, you can freely give out elder promotions. Elders can recruit members and kick unruly new recruits. This is very very important as your cos won't always be online. Give out elder after a week or so. (you can also set donation goals, war attacks etc. Just make it achievable in a week or so)


I think you'll find it a lot more relaxing if you have people you can trust.

I am a clan leader. It can be hard to promote people you don't know in real life, but I know that if I did not promote anyone, my clan would have no members. It would be best to promote members who have stayed a while and donated or done well and are reliable in wars. If you can't trust your clan members, maybe you shouldn't run a clan.

I'm not going to trash you on how bad your policy is rather inform you what a good leader does.

A good leader keeps their clan happy.

When you are part of a clan almost nothing feels better than getting promoted for being a good member. Without that your clan will become boring and people will go elsewhere they feel appreciated.

Id recommend trusting people more this is only a game try to make it fun leader.

Maybe put some goals up in your bio like elder is earned if you donate a certain amount of troops or get a certain amount of war stars.

The other cool thing about elders is they help you recruit and can make your clan better. If you have an elder who is bringing good clan members in I'd offer that elder coleader.

Just my experience as a leader.

A dictatorship is not good leadership. I wouldn't stay in your clan either

The signal you you send is one of dictatorship and that none of your clan mates are trustworthy. I know of a few such clans and frankly it's not an environment I'd wish to be in. Im surprised you have any members at all and can only imagine what their motivation is for sticking around.

Obviosuly it's your clan, do as you like but it sounds grim and can't be much fun playing like this imo. You can't really be surprised taht people leave because of the lack of leadership. You will continue to lose people just as you will continue to pick up a stream of newbies from global...but you'll have a hard time finding loyal clashers who stick around and feel really at home in your clan.

What is the worst case scenario if people are elders?
They slowly boot someone every 30 mins? No trolls got patience to hang around for 5 hours to try kick 10 people.

Understanble to be cautious with co, but even still, if theres no trust, theres no team.
Just a dude making all the calls and everyone expected to do his bidding.

Also it must be incredibly frustrating for your members to see join requests and not be able to accept or deny as well as not been able to recruit in global.

Cleggy , looking at his previous posts, he has created a new clan, so that compounds the issues you've outlined.
New clans with vertually no clan perks , recruiting from global , no promotions , players leaving during or before wars start = plenty of issues and not many are attractive to good recruits.

An inexperienced clasher with control issues is going to have trouble retaining anyone worth while. Not just your no promotion policy but your "I run the show by myself" mentality are the issues

What incentive do your members have to stay? Are you the only one allowed to fill war CC's?

We need more ranks. I would like anyone that joins have the status as "visitor" and can chat with us but not see real bases or war with us. A "member" would be somebody that's actually joined and can now war and see bases. Then elder would be reserved as a status for those that have been in the clan a long time and earned their place.

In our clan Co is a job. The leaders are expected to work, it is NOT a status symbol. Any Co who no longer has time for that work then goes back to Elder status.

Nt having any elder's or co's is like being in a dictatorship lol n imo there r v few ppl who would like to be a part of such clan ( n that too if they get to rule it ;p )

I've put no effort in to checking the op's clan or village, but i would say its safe to assume it's not a well established clan nor is it on track for longevity.

we can only hope the op has taken away some advice from here that trust is needed in any clan for it to succeed.

It's not very often that a thread gets to 6 pages and the responses are essentially unanimous.

A clan like yours is destined for failure. Promotions are something to strive for and to alot are important. I could completly agree with a very limited amount of promotions but to have 0 just wont work. Unless you can find people that dont care but they are few and far between. I get your mistrust of people but thats why you take time to vet them and promote only those worthy. Take the advice of those in this thread and take a leap of faith if you want any hope of a powerfull clan that can last through the bad times. Or dont and you will continue with more of the same. GL and hope you make the rite choice.

Elder and co leader free clans do suck and make the members feel that u r not trusting them and without that a clan cannot be made. U should give eldership and co leadership to members who deserve it based on their war performance or donations etc. In my clan we dont get to eldership easily and it takes hard work so once u get there u feel real good. However if the members just work hard knowing they will not get anything for it of course they will leave for another clan.

I'd have left ur clan too. U must trust others n not be scared that ur clan is ruined by a person. Just test ppl. Make them elders in a few weeks n if they r worth it make them co. That should work

It's a strange set up, I wouldn't stay in the clan either.

We have four or five co-leaders but zero elders. I never understood the point of elders.

A month or two ago, one of the co-leaders suddenly promoted one of my accounts to elder. I would have been the first elder. I said "thanks, but no thanks". I didn't want to open that pandora's box.

ROFLMAO, this is the wrong way to lead a team in this game. If you're not willing to trust ANYBODY, nobody will bother with your clan. By saying, "I control the team... there will be no elders or co-leaders", you're killing your clan. Instead of saying that, why don't you start saying something more reasonable like, "promotions are earned through donations and long-term activity so be active, donate and lead by example"? By saying this, at least you'll see which players have understanding, patience and dedication to truly stick with the team and help out.

At some point, you're going to need to trust someone on your team to help run things when you can't. I agree that people joining a clan and asking "Co promotion plz" within 15 seconds of joining a clan should NOT be trusted and promoted but you really should reward players that truly stick with your team and help out with donations and team leading. Otherwise, if you're never going to trust anyone, then why should they even bother with helping your team succeed?

About a week ago, you made a topic asking people if you should promote new members to elder or co. I replied to that topic under the assumption that you meant whether or not you should promote newly joined members that are demanding an immediate promotion so naturally, I said you shouldn't promote those players. For the record, I wasn't saying that you should NEVER promote anyone in your other topic, I was saying that you shouldn't promote newly joined players that demand promotions after joining your clan. Like the other people that have posted in this thread, I do support the idea of promoting players that have earned it through long-term commitment, activity and effort.

This is your clan and you have the right to run it the way you want. At the same time, you have to understand that not everybody would like the way you run it. So you should not expect that people will understand, agree, and support what you do. Thank you

Would you rather have:

a) A clan with a leader and lots of co-leaders
b) A clan with a leader and lots of elders
c) A clan with a leader and no elders and co-leaders

I would choose c) because it is the safest.

I have given Co away to strangers. You just have to wait for a long while to make sure they are the one. Don't worry too much about giving ranks away. If you make people work for it, it'll be fine, ie. 200 donations for Elder. The ones who want to stay and are 'good' people will respect that and be fine once its given. The ones to worry about wouldn't bother sticking around for a while.

Everyone in this chain is making sense except the OP. Unless you start to build some structure and trust you will get a constant stream of hoppers which will discourage others from staying. You are in a vicious circle of failure unless you change.

In my clan the reason why I don't promote members to elder or co-leader is because mistakes can occur while I'm away from the game. I do my job as a leader and I make sure that the clan is going well.

I really have trust issues...

The reason you should make people Co is so that mistakes don't ​happen while you're away. Leaders should be able to trust their clanmates.

As a leader, why don't you set some ground rules to ensure that your clanmates don't do the wrong thing like abuse their promotion powers?

On my Clash Royale team, I have laid down the rules that I only promote people to Co (my co-leaders handle most promotions to Elder) and also that absolutely no one is allowed to kick anyone unless they're causing trouble because I keep track of the activity data and know who is active and who will be kicked at the bi-weekly roster adjustment. Anyone that breaks these rules are either demoted or kicked, whichever comes first. My entire team respects that and my co-leaders help enforce the rules that I set. I trust that my Co-leaders will make smart sensible decisions when they promote players and they always do.

And if you're wondering what the overall atmosphere of my Royale team is like, it's doing extremely well and very positive. We are a constantly packed 50 player team, clan chat is always busy and everyone is motivated to play and contribute to the team events. I have 5 Co-leaders and a handful of Elders and Member-ranked players and everyone respects and follows the rules. Occasionally a newly-joined member might be unclear on the rules but the senior members are very helpful. Whenever they promote someone to Elder, they even remind the newly promoted player of our clan rules. I love my Clash Royale team, it's a awesome group of players. Originally, I personally appointed 6 co-leaders but 3 eventually left because they couldn't play the game anymore. And guess what, with the past two Co-leader promotions, I've given the entire team the privilege of voting for who they want as the next Co-leader (lol I bet that shocks you OP) and everyone that votes for the next Co-leader has placed thorough, well-thought out decisions on who should be a Co. In a way, the clan has become a close knit community of players and they don't want to see anything bad happen to the clan so their decisions are always in the best interest of the clan. I'm totally grateful for my awesome Royale team as well as my Boom Beach and Clash teams.

You'll need to trust your teammates more if you want your team to succeed. If you're going to put a tight leash on your team, your team will not be motivated to help you at all.

If you don't trust your clan mates then there is really only one solution. Create a ONE MAN clan as nullandvoid suggested below. You don't even have to create 49 more accounts; 9 more will allow you to do 10v10 wars. No good player will stay in a clan run with your style. So if you don't want people to constantly quit in the middle of wars or hop in and out you either need to change your management style (not likely given what you have posted) or just do a one man clan.

Gotta agree. How do you know they will attack in war? Or not all leave during war? You have trusted them enough to join your clan and put war in the hands?

If there is one thing coc has going for it, it's freedom to join a good clan. Of which there are tons.

Well OP, glad to see that you have a clan and that you are running it the way you want to run it. I am guessing that was the point of your posting, not really to come on here and get advice. Lots of ways to play clash and you have demonstrated another one. Plenty of others have stated why they feel your route wont succeed but as always up to you to decide whether you really care or not.

Should also give you some props for putting up some original content in the general section of the forum.

A clan is like a company. We have the boss(leader), manager(co/elders) and the workers(members). They are all working for the company, and how does the company reward them? Salary(promotions). And if they worked OT?(more salary, promoted to co in this case) How do you expect yourself to grow a successful clan when you have such serious trust issues? It's like workers having to fear that their boss will not pay them at the end of the month, if people doesn't get rewarded for their contributions, there is no reason for them to stay in the clan. It just seems to me that you want absolute power and control above everyone else, hence you not promoting anyone. Everyone here is trying to help you but if you gonna insist that you are RIGHT, i think we all can stop wasting our time here. A clan without mutual trust and understanding will never work out.

I'm still waiting for the champion league player to come back and use both attacks in war...

Every man and his dog wants to run a clan, I have no idea why. Unless you know what you're doing, both in game and leadership and organizational wise, it's a long hard road to nowhere. I sure as hell wouldn't want the headache, respect to those who do, and every and any successful leader knows he or she can't do it all alone. It's hard enough to recruit as an established clan, let alone starting up a fly-by-night autocracy and expect it all to fall into place. Good luck.

I think you saying to your clan that you have all the control and there will never be any elder or co-leaders might have had something to do with him leaving. My question is, do you really think that he's going to come back and use both attacks in war? He pretty much said that he doesn't like the direction your clan is going and left. I doubt he'll ever come back.

Nobody is going to stay in your clan for long if theres no trust. As i said earlier, what can elders really do? Kick 1 person every 30 mins?
Do you think people trolling are that patient? You need to either make some changes or give up the clan hope.

If you don't give your clan promotions, then you're essentially treating them like they're hamsters on a wheel. They don't get any rewards besides food (aka troops) they're just helping.

You need to have the Elder promotion to make someone feel like they truly earned it, like it is a badge of honor for the clan. Co-Leaders are especially important, given they will run the clan for you while you're offline.

Besides, you don't need to fear anything bad happening with a co-leader or elder. You have the ability to kick them anytime if they step out of line.

Co-leader can kick everyone except the leader and other co. No cooldown. I think elders have some type of cooldown with how fast they can kick.

Its pretty devastating if a co does that. We had a guy do it recently. Nice guy, even asked that others be polite as part of being a good clan member. Total shock that he did it. He clashed with a new co who just had just recently returned and he completely raged.

We re-invited most who left but a couple people had already joined new clans.

I fully understand not wanting a clan full of them, but none?? You need to realize that every successful organization has a certain level of bureaucracy to it. From the US Government to your local McDonald's. Every strong clan in the game a solid core group of leadership, no one tries to do it on their own. They are looking for someone to lead them, not be a dictator over them

and giving no promotions is also not good ,
You have to give some promotions at first , to build a happy and friendly clan.
And this will make others co-operate with you

In war, during preparation day the enemy clan got destroyed and 2 of 10 members in war remain in that clan because probably a co-leader of the enemy clan kicked everyone out of the clan, including those who were in war. That's why people should promote with caution.
