Thoughts from a "multi-farmer"...

I've been playing HD for almost a year, and it took about a month for me to want to try a baby farm, and that was it, I now have 4 farms -- yes, I know I'm lucky to have extra devices, and no, I'm not rich, over 5 years time I have 1 gift, 1 inherited, 1 purchased (thanks amazon payment plan) and 1 scored at a thrift store!...

I'd really like to hear from others who enjoy "multi-farming", as I call it...

I like being able to do for myself, my own support and trading... I started playing with a fb friend, after awhile she didn't like my laid-back attitude toward the Derby, so she left, and that's when I realized just how much energy and resources I had been putting into her farm... when I was able to put that into just my farms, what a wonderful farming world it became! BTW, she also thought I was silly to have more than one farm, but had no problem with how I always had the items she needed for various tasks :p...

I try to keep each farm doing some specific tasks, such as farm 2 that does everything cherries, trees, juice, jam and popsicles, and as I started each new farm I would shift the grinding out of the basics to that farm, and adjust the products upward on the others... after the first farm I knew what machines I wanted, what worked for me, so that I have the town only on the main farm, and the boat only on main and farm 2, and it's only used for very special events like holidays with prizes (I don't like the boat :))... farm 2 also does only honey, so the main farm can devote to beeswax (the candlemaker is there)...

I have the mine open on all farms, because mining is my favorite, but the jewelry maker is on farm 2, and the ingots produced on the other farms are sent there...

Fishing is open on each, the main is devoted to ducks and lobsters, farm 2 started out with only nets for fillets, but as I got enough to upgrade I have started doing some duck and lobster there as well, along with the nets, and farm 3 is taking over with the nets... because of the upgrade, I am now able to produce lobster soup as well as the pumpkin soup that farm 2 is used for... the feathers I send to the main farm for making pillows and hats...

I get a juicer and jam maker on each farm, farm 1 now does berry, tomato and orange juice, and blackberry, raspberry and strawberry jam, farm 2 does only cherry, farm 3 does apple juice and apple jam (soon to expand to raspberry), and the baby farm does carrot juice...

I have the ice cream maker on 3 farms, main does chocolate and strawberry, 2 does popsicles and 3 does vanilla and strawberry...

I have looms and sewing machines on farm 1 and 2, but only looms on the others, they provide fabric and wool items, farm 1 sews only pillows and blankets, farm 2 sews the basics...

I use Rose and Earnest on farm 1 and 2, I've liked them from the beginning, and consider them essential to keeping up with the everyday tasks so I can keep up with all the machines and areas... and for me, Tom is a given, I've had him "on retainer" from the beginning, those 3 are worth it, at least to me... (and once again, I'm not rich, I don't throw money at the game, but this is what I enjoy, so for special occasions I will tell the family to get a gift card so I can "do my farm" -- they roll their eyes, but that's ok, it's at least something they know I can and will use :D)

I have little need for the DD, except when I get behind in a crop, and I like to think my shop is a good one, I try to fill it with a mix of high-end and basic items, tho' it usually gets snapped up by one person, which I know is the way it is in the DD...

It's a juggling act at times, no doubt about it, and sometimes gets away from me, but it's fun and certainly keeps an old lady busy :)...

Ok, I've rambled enough :smirk:, if anyone's made it this far I thank you for listening and appreciate any feedback...

I can't imagine 4 farms. I set up a second one a year ago but never use it. Simply not enough hours in my day.

Kudos, heartgal!! :smirk: I think I would need to get a ​big magic marker and mark each device with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, just to keep from having brain overload! …and then, I would have to get a special Hay Day notebook to keep track of what each device was responsible for. Congrats for finding such a creative way to play solo. I don't think I have the smarts, but I'm glad you do! Do you have all your farms in one neighborhood? …and do all your farms have clever thought-out names? Again, great job!!

4 farms! That's impressive!

I run two and sometimes I get confused. Especially when being distracted by other things happening around me. I'm retired and spend a lot of hours a day playing.

Main farm arm is level 126. Baby farm level 77
Ive considered starting another farm because I have an extra device. Not sure I can face starting off at rock bottom again. Much easier with two other farms to help. Some times I just do not have enough fields to grow everything I need.

On baby farm I have a number of machines that don't work except sometimes to help with an upcoming truck order. Also very helpful for making enough feed. I never did manage to organize animal feed production on one farm for all the animals. Possibly because I play so many hours and collect wool, goats milk, bacon etc whenever it's ready.
Dairy and sugar mill are also obviously helpful.

I dont care for fishing but have all the spots open on both farms and largely just manage with nets.
Would love to get Angus to fish for me. And collect lobsters and feathers.

Looks like you got it all covered lol. I run 2 farms and the "baby" farm was for extra sugar and dairy production and of course fish since my main farm is lobster and ducks. But since Rose and Ernest came along I have found I can stay more than adequately supplied in all but fish. So my second farm is primarily for fish now. I keep 12 of every single item except staples and I keep a lot more of those. I resupply as I use them (mainly for townies). On occasion I do make product on the baby farm for neighbors or upcoming boats but not often. Great job keeping all those farms. Don't think I could manage all that.

I'm so sorry! I know that's how it came out sounding, and I felt awful about it, I'm certainly not a braggy person... I thought about deleting it... but I have no one to talk to, especially about HD, and when I started it all just bubbled out of me...

I have full-time care of my 2 grandsons, so that keeps me busy... at the beginning I did spend a lot of time, but then I lost my home wifi, so I can only work all the farms when I'm at my sons with the boys, and most of that's after they've gone to sleep, so on a good day I have maybe 2 hours of play... I can work my main farm on my phone at home, so that helps...

Thank you for the kind words... I know this makes me seem like the most organized person around, but trust me I'm not, in the real world I'm a mess, but in HD I do find myself more able to be organized... and trust me, I DO get mixed up, and forget sometimes which farm I'm on, and make "mistakes", but it's all for the same cause so whatever happens it will get used somewhere :)

Yes, all my farms make up my neighborhood

My first farm name is the ever-popular Sunnyside...

the second is Heartgal's World, heartgal is the name I've used from my beginning online, over a decade now...

the third is the most special to me, it's linked to my husband Brads(RIP) fb page, so his profile pic is there, and I think of it as his farm and it's like we're playing together... the name of it is Third Time Charm, because Brad was my third marriage and he always said "third time's the charm, hon" .... and it was... I miss him so much...

and the fourth is just Yep, Number Four

Thank you for the kind words... for me, land expansion is never high on the list, I've not opened a lot of the land on the main farm, and there's less and less need for it on the rest of the farms, as I only need enough room for whatever machines I've decided to devote that farm to, and I've yet to use all the field plots on any of my farms, even the main one... and I love the natural trees so much, I do whatever it takes to keep them, which some would see as limiting but I like it...

Thank you... I like having the extra barns to keep stock in, it's a huge help for truck tasks, which are my favorite (after mining), and it's great being able to devote a fishing area to nets, just stop by once a day for the supply of fish fillets, and keep those machines humming...:)

Your "baby" farm is higher level than my main farm!

Being able to devote a fishing area to nets makes such a difference in production, it's such a help to have a constant supply of fillets...

The one thing I still use the DD for is crops, I do steadily grow them for the drops, but it's nice to be able to supplement as needed...

You are super organized! I created a little farm, thinking it'd be fun. Hmmm...Not really finding that to be the case. I miss my larger barn, I miss all my slots open on all the machines, and most of all I miss being able to help others. So my poor little farm sits there looking all neglected.

When I first started my hood I had a lady join me with 5 farms. That lady ran those 5 farms like a machine, she played the derby with all 5 and was a great asset to the hood. She's long since retired them all and moved on from Hay Day. I sure do miss her!

Are you in a hood by yourself, or with all yourselves? ;)+

I enjoyed reading your post immensely, heartgal, and it didn't sound braggy in the least to me. I am sure that many players liked it as much as I did. I love all your farm names, but I must say that Third Time Charm brought tears to my eyes. From the bottom of my ❤️, thank you for sharing.

My neighborhood is "all of us" :) ... as I said at first, the lady I started with took so much of my time and energy and supplies that I could not imagine playing in a group, so "the 4 of us" hang out in my neighborhood and keep "each other" company :)

I certainly don't mind helping other people, it would be nice if there was a way outside of a neighborhood group to ask... right now all you can ask for is watering and boat help, I don't know how or what another way would be, but it would be nice to be able to be more personal than just putting stuff in the RSS...

One of my personal HD quirks is that I have never opened more than 3 production slots on a machine, I see no reason to... as soon as I figured out that the slots are just a line-up waiting, and it doesn't mean the machine is working harder, I stopped opening slots...

This is a lovely kind of challenge and I'm quite envious of the deliberation required! Hay Day is about time management and organization and I think much of the fun is challenging yourself to keep everything in order - many people do this different ways and I quite admire those who have clever ways of expanding their farming resources. Well done! Whatever makes you happy when playing!
