Do you use valks and the lvl5 will greatly help you in war?
If yes , then upgrade valks.
If no, then upgrade your King, then raid some to get something back into the lab (maybe elixer based).
This is not a race to the finish. A couple days of lab down time isn't going to kill you.
The ability is better at 20 , and hero's are more OP than anything else
if you use Valks ALOT and war with them and loot with them, that may benefit you, but I would always do hero's before any troops
Valks.... You'll be swimming in Dark eventually at TH10. And you can do without the king pretty easy. But max Valks are a solid tool to have in your tool box.
Nt much difference b/w a lvl19 n lvl20 king, but quite a lotta difference b/w lvl4 n lvl5 valks. Having lvl5 valks will help way much mre compared to lvl20 king in war for a new th10Quote:

The lab takes forever. Always the lab if you can only do one.
I kept lab idle for a very looong time due to heroes and walls upgrading in th9. As for th10, fix the valks first, then farm for de like crazy. You need higher heroes.
