When in an attack the clan troops leave the castle and attack my giants, I sometimes use a lightning spell to defeat them. But I am not sure if at the same time my own troops in the area of the spell get damaged too?

No it doesn't hurt your troops.
Nope it just inflicts contrahents troops and builings.

there is no friendly fire when raiding :)
The spell and other miscellaneous only harm enemy defences and enemy buildings. Never your own troops. If it did, no-one would use it.
Nope, just as archers cant hit your barbs when hitting a TH... I recall, maybe like in september 2012, my bro came up to me and said "hey i was really lucky there... My barbs went for his townhall and so did my archers... So they all got killed!" Yepnthats how stupid we were when we started the game...
I must say that i just witnessed my own balloons getting hit by my own lighting spell...
