The Battle vs. Account Sharing - What can be done?

The issue:

Paid pilots (or even just sharing for free), and 24/7 clouding ability

An idea:

Implement a time limit for each village to be logged in per week, based loosely on established human sleep needs. The average human should obtain 8 hours of sleep per night (google the studies, they are numerous) - this leaves 16 waking hours per day. But since there are weekends, vacations, and binges - let's adjust the system a little to allow for more flexibility. We do this by making the limit on a weekly basis. So in a week there ought to be 56 hours of sleep (7x8), and 112 waking hours (7x16). Now let's reward true addicts, and raise the waking hours number to 130 hours per week.

If a village uses up it's 130 hours in the week, it then has a cool down for the remainder of the week. Before commenting on this being too strict, please note that this means that a person only sleeps 5.43 hours per night, and is logged in 18.57 hours per day, every day, for 7 days.

Will there still be pilots? Yeah, I think so. But their edge over those of us playing it straight will be diminished.

Does it really matter? Some people gem for similar effects. If SC doesn't care about losing money should we care they progress faster than us. Keep in mind this game is already established and lots of folks are already at the top.

It seems to be a pride and punishment issue. We're proud we spent hours of punishment to achieve greatness and they're not "paying the same price".

I'm in favor of this. It seems like a relatively simple addition and is reasonable.

No. I have mentioned my frustration with the clouds a number of times, and account sharing has come up in those threads, however I have never suggested this method of dealing with it.

I don't think this is that big of a issue to me. The high end players may do this, but really, they will just be maxed more quickly and high in Legends, I am more concerned with my own progress to care about anyone elses

I don't see how this idea would hurt anyone who isn't using a pilot.

PBT was added to solve a similar problem so it really isn't that far out.

It matters for people trying to compete in legends league that have to compete against players account sharing so their account is playing 24 hours per day. I think OPs idea isn't a bad one IF they keep legends the same going forward.

Wish this could go back to general so it could actually get some discussion... This sub seems to be where threads go to die...

Ahh, thank you for the clarification. I was ignorant in assuming it was a progress thing (upgrade speed) and it's more a trophy pushing thing. Keeps things fair for the already end game players more so than people still trying to reach endgame.

Clouds need fixed...bottom line. You wouldnt have to have a pilot if you could find bases when you are actually available to be online.

Love the idea, but I think maybe they should not necessarily have a week maximum but a day maximum instead? I feel like limiting it per day vs per week would be a better idea?

That was my initial thought, but I figured the week timer would allow for more flexibility for people to play when they are able. For example, someone might stay up all night on the weekend to play, but then not be able to play the full time each day during the week. This way people have the ability to flex their time to fit their schedule. That was my thinking anyway!

Isn't this extremely shortsighted of you? If you ever succeed in reaching the end game then this issue will directly affect you.

And even if it doesn't (or will never) impact you, it is clearly impacting some very dedicated players, so isn't it a bit selfish and pointless to respond negatively? It's not like this change would negatively impact you, so why weigh in at all if it does not apply to you?

To say it wont affect them at any way. You should also accept those kinds of responses, not just I agree cause ... I disagree cause ...

I was just trying to understand the logic.

Restricting how many hours you can play in a week is a good idea. In this way players who share accounts won't be able to go too far from legitimate players. However they will be remain on top position in leaderboard as they are the one who plays the most. It doesn't eliminate account sharing but it does prevent them to keep their account always online.
Detecting who share account is still impossible by now.

I fully agree man, I don't think it's possible to actually stop the account sharing - but we could definitely reduce the advantage.

there are many ways to stop account sharing.

have you ever lost a clash account and needed to have SC recover it and place it on a new device? One of the many questions they ask are 'which city did you reside when you first downloaded clash of clans? Another question is 'what device did you primarily use to play clash?'

have you ever seen the global wall they have in Helsinki? It has a light illuminated for every clash account being used at the time spread across the globe.

basically they know what devices you play on, they know how long you play, and they know where you play.

they can add a limit to the number of devices an account can be linked to within a certain period of time, or a certain number of locations an account can be used in while switching devices. Of course many people have a phone, and tablet or two that they play a single village on. But how many play on 1 device for say 16 hours then switch to another device (many in different cities or states) and play for 8 hours straight, then switch back, etc?

SC has the means and tools to find who is account sharing. If they want it stopped they can stop it.



in the meantime I do think limiting per week play time could help.

Honestly I dont see why I should care if guys want to committ themselves that much to the game that they would put that kind of time into it.

I wont resent their big bases and in return they wont resent my good job, income, great wife and wonderful family, hobbies, etc....

This analysis you are proposing requires human investigation to monitor these activities. That's why it is impossible. False positives will ban legitimate players.

I'm curious, do you have the same feeling toward players that mod clan wars?

the problem with account sharing is 1. It's against the ToS, 2. It places a wall between them and legitimate trophy pushers. If you have a maxed base and a desire to rank in the top 200 you will eventually hit a glass ceiling that will prevent you from attaining your goal due to other players breaking the rules. This shouldn't be happening in a game as popular as clash.

I have all those things and a max base - but you're suggesting that I shouldn't be allowed to compete for the top of the leaderboard because I won't break the TOS? I outright reject every single thing you just said, and tbh I find it personally offensive.

I definitely see your point, and you may be right. If that is how SC is viewing the issue though then it seems a lot like "having their cake and eating it too". If they approve of account sharing because it's good for their bottom line, then they really ought not state very clearly that it violates their TOS. Those two stances are mutually exclusive - they can't have it both ways. It's either allowed and they like it, or it's a violation and they want to stop it.

Big difference between account sharing and using heroes in war. 1 is against TOS, the other is pure money maker.

I like the idea, and I don't think it's out of line for supercell to consider it. If they're willing to put in a PBT to prohibit permanent activity, they should be willing to do something like this to reduce account sharing. Whether you play up top or not, it's still a violation of the ToS, and toxic to the end game. It'd be easy for me to shrug my shoulders and say I don't care, because personally, I don't. But for the health and integrity of the game, cutting down on account sharing is absolutely important.

Great thread👍 I think all your idea's would work to make the gap a great deal smaller and make global a more competitive place! I think this should be #2 priority just under new content for 11s but could still come in same update
