After looking at the pic, I wonder if the ship is just an option to attack someone in a night mode for an enhanced speed but at some other cost.
The second village reference may just be that there will be a day time and night time village setup, and you can adjust your def accordingly. Especially if you have to attack from the water side at night.
Or I could be completely wrong 😜

Y'know, after I saw the latest image, in going to simply throw a speculation out there for what I think of this "massive" update.
We are going to rebuild a ship that has been in wreckage for quite some time. Once built it will have a few levels depending on the Town Level.
At max it will probably have 5 levels all costing gold and having similar stats to that of what the clan castle has for pricing and upgrading time. Level 1 will give you 2x of your camp space, whole level 5 will give 4x but that also means more defenses will pop up on a ship.
Now for the ship, your troops are what determine how you'll face whatever lurks in the waters of Clashtonia. You will do swarm raids against the AI or against actual opponents in large quantities, once you use the main defenses your boat has, you can attack their ship by going on board. A co Op play is possible but difficult to execute unless you have access to both accounts at a given time. After you defeat the enemies boat, you can gain resources and trophies (or possibly an entirely new system). You will see an opponent come up in front of your ship every time you press the "search the waters" option similar to the current "search for opponents" on MM.
What is on the ship, there will be planks on the ship that lead to the oppositions' ship where you send a limited amount of troops to, and the opposing boat will have 6 doors where swarms of troops will come out, but fixed amounts at random intervals. Your job is to seize and capture that ship and as stated before you will gain something from it. The AI would naturally pick the troops that would counter your troops most effectively, a common opponent would need to overrun your troops, whoever runs out of troops automatically loses or if either gets troops to the steering wheel/ Defeats enemy Heroes (all of them available) they win as well. As soon as one of your troops pops up in the radius, an eagle artillery will pop up from the center of the ship, cannons will pop up around the ship same for other defenses, the highest level would be that of the highest leveled attacker troop wise, if a weaker defensive base but high offense, they can be a liability as your base strength and troop strength are what determine how well your defend against your opponent and how well your troops perform.
You will have a different way of choosing the troops you want to bring as you have 10 minutes max to fully prepare, if at level 5, you can have a max space (assuming a TH11) 960, spells are also included with this so you can bring more spells that usual at a cost of some troops.
The level of the opposing ship also determines how many troops will be found.
The number of boats you have defeated can be marked in your profile similar to the War Stars you have, labeled as anything related to the boat such as "Navy Medals" (?)
That's all I have on his if it's some type of game mode.
What I will say is that it would combine elements from Boom Beach and Clash Royale while putting a twist making it more unique than the the previous.
By the way, the troops come out of the doors on the AI as the opponents can attack your ship, your job would be to fight off the opposite forces. So it's meant to be your best friend in those circumstances. But in a Co OP play one of the players will be set to defend having full capability of when to activate and what to send at what given time with the exception of some defenses which require a specific requirement.
Regular troop AI such as attack defenses or any still apply.
Something else I'd like to add is that after successfully defeating a certain number of ships (which is dependent on the town hall level) you will get a Navy Fleet, think of it as a boss battle that is randomly chosen and is much much harder than the standard ships you see on the regular sea MM.
