There was a game called Galaxy life pocket Adventures. It was made before CoC. The current CEO of Supercell worked several years for the studio 'Digital Chocolate' that made it. The game was very similar to CoC but set in space. While there is wall breaker in clash, there was kamikaze in that game which broke the walls, there are dragons and lava hounds in CoC, there were similar flying units in that game. Several of the ideas of that game for e.g. Wars, barrack queuing, events and so forth have been incorporated in CoC. Digital Chocolate sold the game to another studio which couldn't manage it well and the game was shutdown for good.
Seeing the Captain logs I can't help but notice it talks about new land. That game had an option which allowed players to own 7 planets/villages simultaneously with different themes, like green planet, ice planet, even a few planets that looked like CoC's war layout with rocks and stuff. In that game to travel to other planets, one did so via an aircraft.
This is purely a shot in the dark but I think the new update will allow players to own new villages in addition to their main one simultaneously but with a different theme.

So we whine and cry because Lach goes <gasp> 2 days without updating something he has already said wont be till late this week or next, then we complain that there wasn't anything to it. And we expect SC to post videos on their days off, and then we complain about it. Really, why do they bother? People just calm down, when the update is ready, they will share it with us. Until then...

Dude I can't wait for that update to arrive for 1 single reason: it will be hilarious to watch the reactions of all of you guys when the update is nothing we guessed here. Like it'll be fun as hell.
