Forum Reputation System Poll

I've never voted, I am reputation agnostic.

I did however receive several votes:

-I was upvoted and downvoted on the same post, one saying it was sarcastic the other saying it was very helpful.

- I received 5 upvotes when I posted a troll base image I once made.

- I received a downvote and reason for a reply that better matched the poster that followed my comment.

Do whatever, I won't be taking part. It's like who's line is it anyway, "the rules are made up and the points don't matter."

This should be an option in the poll. I'm a mobile user. Pointless for me. The idea is/was neat but until it can be utilized on mobile as well who knows if it works. I voted keep it. I like the concept though don't log in via computer so don't vote people up or down

I have seen, first hand, a guy and his cohorts deliberately manipulate such a system on another forum. He got them to Upvote everything he did. Every hour come back and Upvote him again. And again. And down vote people they decided to mess with.

You can see this in action on Reddit in the Recruitment threads where Reddit recruit threads are upvoted like nuts and non reddit clan recruit threads are downvoted.

I see no reason for people to have yet Another reason to boast about being better than someone else. Already clashers call themselves Elite as if those not in the Elite Clique are navel lint. And this just gives another thing for people to brag about their special snowflakeness. I'm better than you cause I have 1000 upvotes and you have none or a low number or even negative.

There is no use for an artificial easily rigged popularity contest on the forums. And putting it to a vote? Really like 8 wolves and 2 sheep voting on what's for dinner. Nothing more than Mob Rules no matter the result.

Gaming is like the last bastion where people of all sexes, races, religions, cultures, creeds, countries and beliefs can intermingle in a peaceful kind of harmony. Why bring a way to encourage segregation into this? Popularity contests Discourage participation. Some become braggadocious, other feel less than liked or welcomed when their Scores don't go up and... just NO!

First of all.- wow! I don't know how you can read souls and determine that every person that does not like reputation system must see the WORLD through a negative lense. How do you do it? :saywhat:

Second.- He shared his past experiences first hand, so give him some credit. That you are having a good experience with rep system doesn't mean it's all good and peaches for EVERYONE, should I say here that war MM is perfect then? I'm having a great time after all! :D EVERYONE that complains about it must have a very unfulfilling life. See how that sounds?

Honestly I am tending more towards removing it. I don't see a real purpose. Upvotes or downvotes doesn't matter, you are appreciated or buttkicked based on ur comments.
IMO just introduction of notifications when someone quotes our comments will do fine.
I don't know how big a work that would be though.

Thank you for saving me from having to type that out myself. If MisterOz was discussing actions on these forums, then there were a few blatant lies in there. If they weren't from this forum, they weren't worth discussing.

Now not to Onyx, If you're one of the people saying that it was a well written post or whatever, then you're showing that your only goal around here is to sit in an echo chamber and hear your own opinions. This isn't the place for that. This is a place to have a discussion and form your own opinion.

Let's worry about knocking out that update first and then we'll come back to the popularity contest later. Lol.

But seriously, really don't care as I use mobile viewing so rep is near nonexistent to me.

An upvote means "great post! You've made the forums a better place". It can be used whether or not you share the persons opinion

A downvote means "I disagree".

If we keep both up and downvote, it would be worthwhile to see how many downvotes people dish out.

I don't want reputation system

I don't think there should be negative rep, just positive.

Any reputation system should be able to show the people that give decent, helpful answers (which positive rep does) but I have seen multiple threads with multiple people posting things like "Where's the downvote button ?", "Wish I could downvote this" etc etc.

The problem I have with that is you're not downvoting the thread, or even the actual post, you're downvoting a person. Likely for every person that asked "where is the down vote button" several others thought it, but didn't bother posting anything. It would be perfectly possible to trash someone's "reputation" in a few minutes.

Forum can be toxic enough at times without that ability. Therefore, if there is going to be a rep system, it should be positive only.

I was a mod on a much larger forum than this for five years and have seen it happen. We did away with negative rep after a while because it discouraged people from asking questions, especially new members. Negative rep in our case only served to increase toxicity.
