When should I go to TH10.

Well guys, it's with a heart heavy with ambivalence, one torn between happiness and sadness, that I write this. The long goal is over. I finally did it. I maxed my walls. And a little ways before my lab, defenses, and heroes too.

A few minutes ago I finally finished my goal of all perfectly maxed walls. Look at them shine. It's almost worth the burning sensation I feel in my retinas.

Now here's why that's a problem for me, and the reason I'm making this thread.

I'm an...shall we say, extremely active player. If I don't have a resource sink, it won't be but a few more hours until my resources (but for DE) are completely capped off after I finally, and for the first time in months, set down my 5th builder now that I have no walls left to do.

If I can't constantly spend resources and have to look at full storages 24/7 while all my builders are going, but still having to raid only for DE, I'll go mad.

I still have to get my Teslas up 2 more levels each, do one more level on both X-Bows, and get both Air Sweepers up another two levels. So I'm not quiet defensively maxed yet either. Oh and they aren't defenses, but at some point I should probably do the Dark Spell Factory to 4 and DE Drills to 6. No rush on either really...I raid enough that the drills simply don't matter in the grand scheme of things and the Dark Spell Factory 4 is just the skeleton spell. Which I'm in no hurry to do either...I'll likely do all 3 while the town hall upgrades.

At the same time, both my heroes are down (and have been since 8/8) at 16/16 and going to 17/17. And almost the entirety of my lab is now done.

See, I've only got Barbarians and Archers to 6, Baby Dragon to 2, Minions to 5, and Golems to 3 left. Pekka I'll be doing while the town hall upgrades, since both are 12 days, and it provides an easy outlet for something to run through the upgrade time on my town hall so I have no breaks in the lab, and dragons to 4 still has 8 days in the lab. And obviously I've had absolutely no lab down time at all. It's been running my entire tenure at TH9 so far. And will continue to do so at TH10.

Sidenote : I'm ignoring witches and hog riders. Neither interest me and I won't ever be touching either of them until literally nothing else remains.

So my question is, knowing all this, should I just press the upgrade button now, or should I wait a few more weeks since I still have more than enough things to keep my lab busy for a month or more past the 12 day upgrade time.

If I do wait, I'll be able to go to TH10 with maxed defenses, and offenses, and around 22/22 heroes, taking into account total lab time left and the 12 day wait time to TH10.

If I don't wait, I'll reach TH10 with about 20/20 heroes between starting in about a week, and the 12 day upgrade timer to TH10.

What do you guys think?

And 702,000,000 GG, 730,000,000 EE, and 3,400,000 HH is pretty to look at. Cant wait for a billion. :cool: Should get there by the time I get maxed 11 walls a little ways into TH10.

Extra Info : The moment I get past the Army camps, Spell Factory, And Barracks/Dark Barracks upgrades, and have built the new defenses, I intend to keep my heroes down constantly and never even once use them until 40/40. So regardless of what level my heroes are when I get there, they'll be effectively 0/0 for either 18 to 20 straight weeks.

So what do you guys think? TH10? Yes or No? Wait...or don't wait.

This is why I think cost of walls shouldn't have been reduced. Too many players upgrading walls these days lol.

Anyway back to your question, if you can fill up storages that fast, I'd say jist upgrade barch and poison and then start the th upgrade. 20/20 heroes are fine for th10.

One last thing, is lvl 5 wb max for th9? I can't seem to recall, upgrade that before you even think of pekka.

Yeah, wall breakers are maxed at 5 for TH9's. And they were one of my first upgrades. After Goblins and Giants, they were my 3rd upgrade. I think they get to level 6 at TH10. I'd have to check though.

And thanks. I tried to get it done as fast as I could. So fast I actually finished my walls before I finished everything else, despite doing everything else all the time. Lol. For what it's worth, I would have and did do many of those tiles before the price decrease.

After dragons, which I'm only upgrading to give to war CC's and for war donations as the head of a new clan, I plan to do Baby drags for the same. Then Barbarians and Archers to 6.

Somewhere in there I'm deciding just how much longer I want to wait at TH9 before I head to TH10, since I still have some of everything but walls left to do, so I'm looking for community input on where I should go from here.

Don't ignore any troops. (don't deliberately let your Laboratory stand idle, just because you don't like Witches or Hogs)

Anyhu .. Truely maxed TH9, with 30/30 heroes, all the available troops maxed, all traps maxed, all walls maxed, is a very fun thing to play around with. Push or War .. you will do great in both as you can get close to a 100% success rate against other TH9s.

That said .. it's going to take you another 4-5 months of grinding, to get your heroes maxed. That time is not magically going away, if you move to TH10 now, but by the time you have 30/30 heroes, you'll have maxed building for TH10, and you'll be 4-5 months further along with your Laboratory.

My lab isn't idle now and never has been. Not even once since the day I started the game. As I pointed out, I have other upgrades left. I just blazed through the walls so quickly that I finished them around a month-ish before everything else. As I said though, I'm not upgrading hogs and witches at all. But that doesn't mean my lab will be idle. I'll simply upgrade to TH10 during the time Pekkas are upgrading, and the second I hit TH10, start minions to 5 and then immediately Lab to 8. Back to back to back upgrades with absolutely no down time. Easy.

As for hero upgrades, 17-30 is only 13 weeks. That's 3 months, not 4 or 5. I have no down time on those either. And as I pointed out, I'm keeping them down forever until 40/40. I'll be going to and reaching TH10 by the time their 20/20 in about 2 and a half weeks, or around 22/22 in about a month.

I also keep both heroes down at exactly the same time, and that won't change, no matter the level they reach. I'm not a "one hero at a time" guy. I raid enough that cost doesn't factor.

I'm also well aware that the lab is the bottleneck. I wrote a 14+ paragraph essay on it to Sin a few days ago in another thread. Your lab itself takes longer at every town hall level than any other subset of your base combined. I also bring that up in this post during my reasons for both staying a TH9 for a few more weeks before I press the upgrade button, and my reasons for just going. :facepalm:

As for maxing my heroes, I'm not interested in waiting at TH9 to do so. As sin points out and I agree, if your upgrading heroes, their essentially 0/0. There's no difference between a TH10 with 20/20 heroes and a TH10 with 30/30 heroes in this regard. And I'm not waiting an extra 10 weeks to go to TH10 with 30/30 heroes. Instead the only reason it's even an issue is because I still have lab work left that vaguely matters, and about the same amount of time in defenses left to upgrade. So instead of my original plan of heading to TH10 with 20/20 heroes, they'll end up 22/22 when the town hall ticks over if I wait a few extra weeks.

Either way, heroes will still finish more than 6+ months before the lab does with diligent upgrading.

Heroes becoming increasingly important at TH10. I always encourage people to max their heroes first. I have always tended to be a maxer though, to each his own.

I would move to TH10 to work on walls. You get more DE and if you're keeping a hero or both down you aren't warring. Might as well get DE at TH10 for faster heroes and work on important troops. Bowlers, hounds, barch to 7. I currently have heroes going up back to back at TH10 and both are over level 20. I havent used my queen since she was level 1.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I'm thinking basically the same thing. I may or may not wait another week and a half to get my heroes to 18/18 so they will be 20/20 when I reach TH10, and finish another 3 upgrades by the time the town hall ticks over. This is why I like community input.

It won't be possible to upgrade the heroes at the same time. Max de storage is 200k de (right?) You will have to spend to be able to collect for second hero.

Lol I'm not. Pekkas are the very last upgrade I'll be doing at TH9 from 2 to 3. And It's due to perfect lab time. Pekkas take 12 days to go to 3. Town Hall 9 takes 12 days to go to TH10. By starting the Pekka upgrade at the same moment as I start the Town Hall upgrade, I'll tick over to TH10 at the same instant my lab finishes Pekkas. Then I can start Minions to 5 with DE, as well as the Lab to level 8 upgrade. Once those finish, I can immediately kick off upgrading everything in the new lab tier. With absolutely no down time or breaks at all, and precision timing.

I have my heroes staggered 2 days apart, which will be extended to 3 later. I can easily kick up DE farming since it gets extensively better dead base farming DE at TH10. I'll go from a 2.7K intake with a 1.9K Profit per raid to 4K intake with a 3.1K Profit per raid. Substantially increasing my profit margins. Due to being staggered, I can keep both upgrading 24/7 with no breaks, and still absorb the cost. Even at 200k Per. Having both down and upgrading at the same time doesn't mean having to place both down at exactly the same instant. In this way I'll be able to keep both heroes down at the same level, and going to the same level, at all times without any breaks whatsoever.

Very true. And this is why I'm ignoring Hogs and Witches. Neither are very useful for the levels I'm going too, so I'll be ignoring them forever until literally nothing else remains. Seems to me you have already made your mind up, might as well just sent SinOfDusk a PM rather than create a thread asking for opinions, but since you asked....

Personally I would give myself an extra few weeks at TH9, there seems to be quite a few quick upgrades to do still, that if you time them well can be a sink for your gold (bombs for example). There is also quite a lot left to do in the lab really, and you might be 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' in regards to witches. They are a useful war troop at TH9, and at TH10 used with bowlers can be really good fun.

As your lab and heroes are still not idle with regards to upgrades, you are not really losing any time on your way to fully maxed TH11 by holding off a few weeks either, if your lab was idle or genuinely had nothing useful left to upgrade then it's a different matter and it would be time to go to th10. For me there is still fun to be had at TH9, for you there might not be.
But I suspect, as I mentioned earlier, you have made your mind up anyway so enjoy TH10.

Honestly? I really haven't. I legitimately want community input on exactly how soon I should hit the upgrade button. The one thing I'm adamant on is that I absolutely will not be maxing heroes at TH9. It's a huge waste of time. I can do the same thing at TH10, and 20/20 heroes, possibly 22/22 heroes if the community decides I should wait a few more weeks, when I get there will be fine.

But past that, I'm still curious as to when exactly people think I should upgrade. So, I'm treating this thread like a kind of poll. Plus this was a lot of work to get done so quickly, and it gives me a fun excuse to talk to the community about it. This is fun for me, and it's allowed, so why not?

I've got about a month-ish upgrades left in the lab outside of Minions and Pekkas, which I explain are going to be used for the TH transition period and the upgrade that goes down while the lab itself is upgrading to 8, and since I only farm, and hogs and witches aren't great farming troops (poor margins or inefficient usage prevents this, sadly) neither interest me.

So I'm ignoring them. Which means the only lab upgrades I really have left to do before I hit the button is B. Drags to 2, Barbarians to 6, Archers to 6, and Golems to 4.

I agree you should move on after a few more lab items get finished since you will be able to continue to keep builders busy.

On the other hand if raiding is truly what you are all about then upgrading now might be better. It will let you start dumping loot into walls again and with your activity level that might be good use of your time.

I am pretty close to going to th10 as well. I am behind on walls but all defenses all traps all maxed. Only about 50 level 10 walls done.....And heros are 19/20.

Looking forward to the new fun of th10. I have loved th9 and am also somewhat apprehensive about the upgrade to th10 based on what so many on the board complain about.

Best of luck heading to TH10 man. I'm looking forward to it as well lol. I'm practically salivating thinking about it. I'm leaving it up to a kind of community vote as to whether I go now or in just a few more weeks.

I started a ways before that, but ended up quitting the game at TH8 for a number of years. I came back around March or so 2016. I got intensely into farming in the last few months. I also kicked up my donations a metric tonne the past 3 months. Almost all of my nearly 20K FiN stat was done in the past 3 months.

I plan on keeping this style of play going until max TH11.

You are farmer so it doesn't mean much if you hit upgrade button 10 days later or earlier.

Then you just have to move on to TH10 asap, so that you make sure that you can 1) dump resources 2) keep builders as active as possible.. when you start getting close to the end of TH10 (not more than 28-30 weeks after you begin, depending on how many of the buildings you want done) .. move on to TH11 and let the surplus Elixir go into the GW..

As the cost goes up, it also gets easier to acquire Dark .. and on TH10/11 you will never have problems, if you don't have problems now.

Then you have no reason to stay on TH9 .. you are obviously ready for the End Game as a maxed out TH11.

I think reading through your post that it's fairly obvious you're not really a war player. Otherwise I'd question why your hogs weren't one of the first units you upgraded at th9... they are so powerful in war!

Since you're not into war - the only real downside of upgrading is that more loot can be stolen from you, and you're more like to have to hit another th10. Since you are very active, then first of those isn't really a problem, since you can recoup your losses quickly. And the second - just choose the right league.

Good man, 70/70/30 TH9 is a grand thing. I managed to get there, and stayed for a whole 4 days while my TH upgrade finished. Now enjoying a good start on TH10 with those Heroes

What does 70/70/30 means?

If you don't war you are doing yourself a disservice by staying at th9 any longer. The loot available at th10 is higher than th9.

On a side note this thread proves that wall costs shouldn't have been reduced. They made it too easy. Way too many th 9s with max walls and baby heroes

In your place I would do the xbow and tesla levels, and upgrade king and queen both continuously in that time, then go. But it's really up to you.

I don't know what that's supposed to mean. My heroes are hardly baby level. Their both about to be 17/17 and I'll be 20/20 within the next 2 and a half weeks. I've worked on them constantly and almost never used them. They do only upgrade so fast lol.

On the wall bit - agreed. It would have taken me another two, maybe three weeks of farming or so to finish walls without the price reduction.

But the thing is, I farm until my retinas burn and I can hardly stay awake. I'm insanely active. Of course I'd have finished my walls before everything else, even without the price decrease. It's not like I did things on easy mode. Given that, I do admit that the price decrease did speed things along a tad from what it would have taken me beforehand.

Part of the reason my GG and EE are so high for a TH9 is because I did the level 9 walls at the old price of 2M each, and several of the level 10 ones before the update that reduced level 9's to 1M and 10's to 2M. So instead of 1M per wall at 9 and 2M per wall at 10, I instead had to essentially pay 2M for 9's and 2M for 10's. Kind of off, but that's just the way things go.

Heck, I'm proud of what I accomplished here at least.

The only exception being when I use all 5 builders constantly for the first month or so of TH10 to get all the horribly early offensive upgrades out of the way before I continue to put them down. I'd like to get them to 20/20 when I toggle over, but either way they'll finish 40/40 long before the lab finishes so...meh.

My personal rule of thumb for going to TH10 is that 20/20 heroes are okay, 25/25 heroes are good, and 30/30 heroes are great.

So my vote is to get to 20/20 at a minimum before you go TH10.

I would definitely advise maxing out Dark spell factory and drills -- you need the d.e. to max out dark troops and heroes, and it is better to get the factory out of the way. I would max out teslas and that last x-bow as well. (I maxed out all defenses and walls at TH9 and got my heroes to 25/25.)

Of course, there is more than one way to play the game. I've seen people who only upgrade certain troops and never bother with other ones. I don't recommend that approach, but maybe it may meet some people's needs just fine. Just beware of the potential for circular reasoning: "I don't need to upgrade that troop because I don't use it" -- which can also become "I don't use that troop because it's not upgraded enough to be useful."

Upgrading TH is all about priorities and style of play.

As a farmer and extremely active player, you should just hit the button now and go to TH10. Keep focusing on Heroes and Walls by keeping the Royals sleeping and a free builder for Walls. Additionally, I'd focus on the Elixir upgrades with the free builders. Drop ALL the new defenses ASAP as war weight means squat to you.

And maybe to save a future thread, I went TH11 as soon as I finished my Walls.

OP, having read your comments I would advise you to go to TH10. You have a clear idea of what it is you want to achieve and how you want to do it, so go for it.

Personally, I am a lover of maxing a base. I find nothing better than having a 100% max base. I am not in a rush for TH10, nor do I care that my lab will be idle for a couple of months as I finish off maxing my heroes. But that's what I want to achieve, not what you want.

So go to TH10 as your originally planned and enjoy the journey :thumbsup:

Just a further thought, as a person who is into farming you don't actually need to prioritise upgrading all of the barracks at the start of th10, one of each will do you as you're unlikely to want the new miners and bowlers at fastest possible speed of production for your regular farming, as opposed to just having access to them as something to experiment with and learn where it's ok they take a bit longer to train.

Maybe. I've been hearing how great miners and bowlers are though for a very long time. And as patient as I'm trying to be, I really, really want access to them to try them. I know miners got nerfed, but I'm hoping their still amazing for eventual pushing. And Bowlers are still apparently arguably the best troop in the game from what I've heard people say around here recently. I'm super eager to try them out.

I may just do that though. For the longest time I had only one level 11 Barrack since I still haven't figured out how to use Baby Dragons for anything but war CC. I'll definitely do the Dark Barracks one at a time though. But the regular Barracks might be able to wait a bit.

At TH9 Baby Dragons can be very useful for the pekka walk. But you neglected the pekka. Witch/bowler walks are op at TH9 and TH10 but you are neglecting your witches. At TH9, some bases just scream out hog attacks, but you neglected your hogs.

You are nearing the end of your TH9 journey so I agree that upgrading hogs seems pointless now. But I feel witches has been an oversight on your part and would recommend checking out some youtube videos to see what I mean :thumbsup:

Sorry, I didn't necessarily mean that your heroes were baby heroes. Even though level wise you're over half way to 30, DE wise you're less than half way. But that speaks to how easy the walls are now compared to hero grind when you can get your walls done before your heroes are 25/25 or better.

You should be proud many people don't even bother to do higher levels with the reduced costs. 👍 well done!

Well. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but I wouldn't call it negligence.

I still use Pekkas sometimes during the rare war I do. I just held off of upgrading them specifically simply because their 12 day upgrade time is perfect for the TH9 to TH10 upgrade time of 12 days. So I definitely didn't neglect the Pekka. Never heard of the Pekka walk though.

Witches last I looked were single target, had extremely terrible damage, cost an outrageous 12 housing spaces, and had a set limiter on the number of skeletons she could summon, who all died in a single hit, and costs a ton of DE per. Valks beat them in literally every category. I just don't see the point.

Same with hogs. Their really weak in comparison to other better options, even at lower town halls. Back when I was a lower TH they died in a single DGB hit, had very little HP, were single target, and frequently hit the wrong defenses. Where I'm at now, even with their recent buff, I just don't see a point in ever trying. They die too fast at TH10 and TH11 to be useful even at their respective max levels.

It's not that I'm neglecting these troops, it's just that I simply don't see a point to ever using them. They have tremendous flaws and I don't understand how you could choose to use something like Witches or Hogs when they cost so much and do so little. They just don't seem to be good troops.

Thank you! And yeah, that's true. It's going to be a lot of fun farming the DE to keep them going. And I agree, the wall cost reduction was kind of uncalled for. I honestly almost wish they never would have done it. But oh well. :smirk:

I feel like you have received some bad advice somewhere along the line for not upgrading hogs and your golems to max for th9. (Provided you are interested in war) At th10 you will be attacking th9s a lot initially and Govaho is where it is at when hitting 9s. If it were me (I was there 6 months ago) I would get my heroes to at least 25/25 and then get the hogs and golems maxed. High level heroes are a must at th10 especially especially​ when hitting infernoes. I would wait a few months to hit the upgrade th button.

I'm not interested in war as I mention several times during this thread. And I intend to keep my heroes down with absolutely no breaks just as I am now until their maxed off. I mostly just farm dead bases for loot and donate a ton. As for the advice, I never took any. It's all just information gathered on my own through experience.

Way more detail in other posts if you mind don't mind reading them. It's been restated enough at this point that I feel it doesn't bear repeating and making another multi-paragraph post on it.

Witches are very strong with bowlers at th10 and th11. Our opponent's in the current war used 10 witches, 15 bowlers and 6 giants. They got one 3 star and one 90% 2 star against almost max th11 and their attacks were not very good .... just spamming all troops without a plan.

I would upgrade asap. I rushed to th10 with weaker heroes and th7 defenses and I don't regret it. Easy farming in crystal league like th9 and it's possible to push to titan league if you want to practice for war (I'm at 4000 trophies now).

I don't remember the level 9 walls costing 2m gold. I thought it was always 1m? Perhaps I am mistaken.

The price of level 9, 10, and 11 walls was reduced from their old prices and adjusted down 1m each a few months ago.

Level 9 cost 2m, Level 10 cost 3m, and Level 11 cost 4m.

Now Level 9 costs 1m, Level 10 costs 2m, and Level 11 costs 3m. They added in level 12 walls either in the same update or not long after that cost 4m.

When the price reduction happened, I had already finished my level 9 walls. So essentially I had to pay 2m per wall for both level 9 and level 10 walls.

Just figured id explain a bit.

No idea why this thread got moved though. It has nothing to do with base design or tactics or strategy. I just posed a question to the forum. It belonged in general.

The problem with your approach is not that it can't work -- the problem is that you are missing out on some cool elements of the game.

Your troops and heroes are fine if you want to go to TH10, you dont really need to consider defenses if you wanna jump to TH10. If you are bored with TH9 i'd move on, if you are enjoying TH9 i would stay and max it all out.
