I maxed my BK and minions and have a full tank of DE going into TH8 (in addition to maxing everything else); I did pretty good as someone who "doesn't know how to raid properly".

OP asked for a "good strategy" and I can assure you that lightning is one of the good strategies.
It's not the ONLY strategy, but in combination of normal DE raiding, using lightning spells would get you there much faster.

By not using lightning on DE, your helping yourself as well as the person you would lightning. This is because 1k DE every 90 minutes is extremely ineffective

You still don't get the point.

You don't JUST use lightning, sit back and wait for the spells to regenerate!

You use lightning IN ADDITION to your normal raids! And that's why it is EXTREMELY effective and efficient!
You gain the 1k or more DE WITHOUT down time to your normal troops! Even if you go for DE drills, you DON'T NEED to use your entire army. So it would just be minutes before you are ready to start a normal raid again.

The trick with lightning spell raids on DE is either do it on revenge - you can wait for maximum returns, or do it to bases far advanced of yours so thats th9s and 10s in your case - your little DE store will be of no interest to them and the loot penalty is so great they will not revenge you

I agree with an early post... get yourself into Gold 1 (say, 1900 trophies to allow you to just farm without worrying about losing some trophies), then wallow in all the higher level bases who just leave their DE pumps and/or stores at the edge of their base. I was there a few weeks back, as TH8, and was amazed at how many I found, where they obviously had higher priorities then protecting their DE... A few raids there, using goblins and archers with a few giants or barbs, maybe a wall breaker or two, and I easily made the 6k DE I needed to finish my next level of King.

In Crystal, you'll find the DE better protected.

Below Gold 1, I believe you'll find there just isn't as much DE around (yes, it's around from 1400+, but I think you have to be more persistent in your searches or deal with only a few hundred per raid instead of thousands per raid).

I also have TH 7 currently and i have a pretty good startegy
As for trophy goes, im at 1200-1350 and i get about 200-900 DE per raid(plus gold and elexir) you can of course go higher up but here there is no zapping and i dont lose my DE
Army:
20 Barbarians
20 Archers
23 Goblins
14 Giants
2 Healers
10 Minions 7 Wallbreakers
2 Lightning spells and 1 rage spell(if no rage spell take 3 Lightning)
For CC only request Wizards or dragon

Execution:
Find a base where DE is in 1st 2nd or 3rd layer of walls
Start by deploying barbs for traps, then deploy all giants then enough wallbreakers to break through walls now deploy minions and then the 2 healers, at this point you can use the rage spell if you want to you can use Lightning spell's on the nearest AD or splash damege defense, now deploy some more wallbreakers to break into the DE, then deploy all barbs and then some gobs to take out nearest resources, not all cause then they will get distracted, once you see the gobs will go for DE deploy all and then rest archers to take out other buildings,

A giant healer with rage will work much better than lightning
