I know two tricks for getting gold.
1) Skirmish. Prepare all archers. Find bases with even 50k in the gold mines and spend maybe 20-30 archers. Your four barracks will turn out 8 archers per 50 seconds, so you'll have a full camp when you get back. Repeat. Yields 50-100k every 5 minutes, so half mil-mil per hour. This costs trophies though, unless you also look for outside Town Halls.
If you have the Dark Elixir for it, use Minions. Sometimes gold mines are guarded by cannons or mortars, which can't target Minions.
2) 10 or 11 Dragons. Remember, you can prepare troops beyond your Army Camp maximum. You can actually prepare 15 Dragons, 11 for your 220 capacity camps and 1 in each Barrack. After your first raid, 4 dragons will come out right away. Like this you can get two, maybe even three raids in. This can get you a solid 1/2 million gold in 5-10 minutes, then go do something else for 90 minutes and repeat. Another advantage to this method is your clan will love you for it because you'll have extra dragons on hand to give out.
This will get you 3 million in 9 hours. (1 hour gameplay, 8 hours living life while your dragons grow.) A day's work, but it can be done.
