The Clash Royale 'Ideas and Future Requests' Situation

Okay... if you spend any time at all on Clash Royale's Ideas and Future Requests forum, you know the place is, well, sort of a mess. Not at all because the forum is designed poorly (it's awesome), but because of something the veteran forumers can't handle: Fresh Spawns.
I know - everyone was a Fresh Spawn once, but the problem is not that they're flooding in. The problem is that they're flooding in, creating one sentence threads, and then leaving for all of eternity. No responses, no edits to the original post, no nothing. They just leave. There are dozens of these threads created in Ideas and Future Requests each day, and for the dedicated forumers who spend time and effort creating a beautifully designed thread with stats tables, strategies and artwork, having their post get swept away by a flood of threads that Fresh Spawns literally spent thirty seconds making is super frustrating.
I know other forumers have tried things in the past: groups dedicated to educating the Fresh Spawns (they both died), signature advertisements (nobody really checks sigs anymore), view-trading threads (that get washed away in the flood of Fresh Spawns). Nothing has worked, and the mods haven't really done anything about it.
Therefore, I propose a new idea. Supercell Moderator isn't the only title available on these forums; we have Game Specialist and a few others. Why not create a new title that gives the owner exclusive privileges on I+FR only? These I+FR 'mods' would be able to close threads, delete posts, etc. on the Ideas and Future Requests forum. They would filter out the single sentence Fresh Spawn posts and at the same time bring the best ideas to the attention of the mods, and possibly, the developers.
Here is a link to a thread from the I+FR forum presenting the problem and several possible solutions. At the bottom of the original post is a list of at least a dozen respected forumers who fully support this idea. At the very least, take a look at the thread and give certain people in I+FR 'moderating' powers, so that the forumers who spend the most time there can regulate the flow of new threads.
Thank you for your consideration. I hope you'll understand why we need some sort of moderation on the Ideas and Future Requests forum, so please consider this idea and do your best to implement it. Thanks again.

Well, been to CR IFR subforum only once, but mine main base is CoC IFR subforum. Thats where I live so I know how you feel.
Personally, I agree with you - there could be someone besides the mods to watch over IFR (maybe for each game few of them).

SC forums run on vBulletin Solutions software, run and configured by SuperCell. While it is possible to expand the options within vBulletin with plug-ins and custom code, most sites try to keep it as close to vanilla as possible.

For the record, Game Specialist is just a regular forum user with a blue badge. Game Specialists have no additional rights or privileges than any other forum member.

I think the best solution to the Fresh Spawn issues in the game specific I&FR sub-forums is to have a minimum post count and/or days as a member of the forum before you can create new threads in the I&FR sub-forums. But, I do understand why SC seeks to be inclusive of all forum members, even the new ones.

I dont really agree, the first thing I did after creating my profile (and waiting literally years for the activation code) was, that I made a thread in IFR.

Same problem in CoC-IFR, discussed here: link.

My solution was going in a different route but also supported by more people than the mods only like current. Have some selected forumers (tbd how) allocate ratings to the idea to reflect its: Importance (how it affects the gameplay), Occurrence (how often is it requested/supported via a poll), Probability (how likely does it conform to this game - aka, is it likely to be implemented). The up or down vote would be a similar but simplified idea.
I started a design and process (very much a draft here in this forum : link).

Surely we see same issues in both IFR forums (CR, CoC), maybe also HD and BB (???) and could find a common solution.

Not sure this would help or not, as many new ideas come from fresh minds. Many repeat of ideas come the same 'fresh' minds, that is where more modding of the forum would help imo.

Maybe a requirement to open and scroll thru the sticky would help, but likely to be followed like the ToS agreement ...

Another idea could be (as I had proposed in the Forum 2017 discussion here) to force the use of predefined tags, which both help the OP clarify the Idea and limit to one per thread, and to forumers assess/filter them. Similar to the CoC-in-game FAQ would pop automatically a list of existing threads in the same category/tag, and avoid duplicates.

I beg to differ. I only came onto these forums to post my ideas (and I was lucky enough to read the stickies before posting). Having a minimum number of posts required would just spam the forums even more, since the Fresh Spawns would have to comment at least 5 times before posting their own idea. My idea is simple: have 'mods' for the I+FR page: forumers who spend almost all of their time there and check about a dozen times a day. That way, the actual mods wouldn't have to spend their time sifting through the Fresh Spawn posts and redirecting everyone to the stickies; they could improve upon the forums themselves. The mods would be there because they want to be there and everyone trusts them to do their job. And since the privileges they have only extend to the I+FR page, they wouldn't be able to alter anything in General Discussion or Deck Strategy. I just think that having some form of moderation, especially from those who want to stop the flow of single sentence threads instead of being forced to be there, makes a lot of sense and should be implemented.

IFR problems are in all game forums, COC, CR,BB, So I support this idea. ( I don't play HayDay so I don't visit hayday forums)

True. In fact, ilovehayday (moderator) responded to the original thread and noted that the same problem was happening with the I+FR for Hay Day as well, and I assume it is also a problem for CoC and Boom Beach. So if something is implemented, it will likely be for all of them.

Actually, i think that the IF&R specific mod (IF&R Manager?) should be like a regular GASPs. No special priviledges. Just a red(?) badge.
And these IF&R Managers will check the IF&R section frequently, give constructive criticism just like most forumers. Each month, they will prepare a list of ideas that are unique, well presented and interesting. The list will be PMed to the staff (Tim) so that we can get official information on the ideas.

That seems fine to me. I think the idea of privileges is so they can close/delete threads that are ruled out or one-liners (possibly with an explanation message for the OP, so they know wht and can improve in the future), and just keep the "junk" threads out of the way. I'm not saying we need that, but it could be helpful.

Thats it, they should be able to delete the ruled out threads or twin or anything else, not just the badge ... That would be almost useless, this is meant to get rid of that junk and you cant do that with just colored title

First of all, we need to assess how we judge players. Instantly claiming that Fresh Spawns are noobs who don't have a clue what they are doing crosses countless lines. There have been quite a few brilliant posts in Clash Royale's Ideas and Feature Requests as first posts. Then again, there are many empty-looking threads when a selection of members like to have long, detailed threads. Detailed and generic posts should be allowed and respected.

When it comes to ruling-out ideas and restricting duplicate threads, as suggested, the best thing to do is to force new users to read the stickies. Anyone can spam 5 posts, 10, or even 300 in a very short amount of time. Typically, those who are at the post count to be allowed to make posts will be the ones who make one-liner threads. Those who type a lot for a single post will not get to the limit as easily. There's room for improvement and that is what discussion is


I'm upset with the strong request for a special Clash Royale Ideas and Feature Requests Game Specialist. I guess my reputation as a proud user of that sub-forum has plummeted over the past two months. :smirk: I visit the sub-forum regularly and I plan to support it. I've been requesting new features and changes, based on how the sub-forum looks and what people are saying. When I saw a thread appear about cleansing the sub-forum, I thought ok, somebody else has an input on it. Coincidentally a few requests are ones that I have passed on myself.

GASPs are known for being very helpful, constructive and passing information onto moderators. Anyone can do this anyway. Whilst we don't have any special privileges to spam Tim's inbox, we still pass on the information to where it is seen and considered thoroughly.

The problem is with posts that are ruled out or something similar. They block the good ideas to stay higher as these push them lower. I dont think there should be a post restriction in IFR subforums, that would discourage new players from posting there. But the new role could solve it as these people would be the most active in those forums and would close, remove and move those junk threads

I do agree that having a post count is not a great idea. Keep in mind the thread I linked was not created by me, although the problem was the same. That's why I decided to focus on the 'moderating' concept: I have seen a few great threads created by Fresh Spawns, one of them only a few days ago.
I have no problem with new creators who regularly contribute great ideas that aren't ruled out; I do have a problem with spam bumping, one sentence threads, etc. A small group of I+FR moderators for each of the different games would help to control the amount of ruled out ideas and spam threads as long as the 'mods' are active. Also keep in mind that the 'mods' wouldn't have any power outside of I+FR whatsoever, if that's bothering anyone. We just need some sort of active moderation so that the flow of the noob Fresh Spawns (not the awesome Fresh Spawns) can be cut down a bit. That's all.
Btw, NightmareX, I totally respect you and understand your point of view. I just think that someone needs to be given the power to stop spamming empty threads on I+FR, and so as not to take up the time of the actual mods, a small group of avid I+FR users could monitor the page instead.

Good points. I'm not gonna sum up everything you said, but I will say I agree with most.

I believe the idea of I&FR "managers" are to help mods out, such that they don't have to do as much work. Ofc, the idea may be flawed, but it could be used to get rid of threads on ruled out ideas, or one liner posts (your point of post requirements and fresh spawn was good). Again, the idea may not he good, but that's the general idea behind it: help keep I&FR working smoothly.

I believe I once saw a post in I+FR where the Fresh Spawn was asking to be hired by Supercell. :) Funniest post I saw all day. But seriously, those are the kinds of things that pop up.

If I got a dollar every time I saw one of these, I'd be rich.

And another thing is that there currently is no way to get rid of the spam posts. If you head over to the I&FR forums right now, there are like 5 or 6 quality of life single sentence threads with minimal thought put into any of them all made by the same guy. Nothing is getting done. Full support for something to happen.

Will the log from the sky be implemented? I don't play CR so as far as I know it might be a brilliant idea. So good in fact that it needed no further details such as what kind of tree the log came from.

That link really is thrash. Whether the idea is good or not, the thread is terrible. A little effort could've been put into it. I personally think the idea isn't that great, as there aren't enough air troops to warrant it, but others may disagree.

Overall, most avid users of I&FR like to see a decent amount of effort put into the idea. We're not huge fans of "single sentence ideas". That may be a fine way to come up with ideas in a group, but not on the forums, imo.

As a lower-ranked member, I'd say that I'm all for a system mentioned where downvotes by higher-ranked members could lead to a thread being taken off. Fresh Spawns and other lower-leveled members like myself get a bad rep, partially because of this.

So... there's no point to asking for I+FR 'mods' of any kind? If so, I'm disappointed. Some sort of cookie-cutter program that blocks Fresh Spawns from posting, or some sort of character limit, isn't very efficient when you remember that everyone was once a Fresh Spawn with ideas, or that then the Fresh Spawns will just spam characters to post their ideas, which is even more annoying... if there aren't going to be any I+FR 'mods,' can we at least get some sort of general description of what the mods ARE working on to improve the Ideas and Future Requests system?

But why? Is it because of vBulletin restrictions? I think subforum mods are a very good way of ensuring the quality of every subforum in the game since these to-be mods have spent much more time on the respective subforums and can weed out the good posts from the 'thirty-second' posts. Also, speaking of I&FR, Card Balance is also having the exact same issue right now.

That's it - subforum mods. Not for General, obviously, but for every specialized subforum, there could be a group of 'mods', with powers that only extended to that subforum. The 'mods' would ensure that junk posts are closed and/or deleted, and would give the actual mods a lot more time to improve the forum itself, instead of policing it for those previously mentioned posts. Or we could have a vote system to have a thread/reply removed/moved. Then all of the forum would be able to help the mods. But we'd need something like a reason for why it should be taken down and a list showing all those reasons (without names to prevent retaliation) and if the reason is bad (i.e. reason is "Shut up fresh spawn"), then it can be reported.

Oh, and btw: we should do something about how a lot of people will go to card balance and ask for a ebarb or rg nerf, then say they require no skill as a reason. It's almost always that same reason, even if they have others.

It's a vbulletin permissions thing that prevents this, they cannot give degrees of mod power, it's an all or nothing forum tools access across all areas, so a person either has all the relevant mod powers or none of them. It could only happen if vbulletin defined a suitable different system role globally (ie for all users of their software). The only way to have a subforum mod is to task an existing mod to focus on just that aspect of their wider forum role (which seems inefficient and boring).

It wouldnt be such a problem, I think that you could make someone mod, then change his title (I think this is possible and pretty easy). This person may have full power of mod, but there would be new rule - if he uses his power beyond his forum (or anything to his forum related) he would ... IDK the penalty​. I think this could work

Oh well, it's not that simple. Only a Staff can make a mod (I guess). So, only a staff will be able to remove a mod. And if a sub-forum mod goes rampant, the Forum could receive massive damage, because the staffs are mostly busy.

There is a reason to have this thread, some forumers will most-likely end up when randomly searching for a thread and find this, hopefully read it and understand. At least that happened to me.

It is nothing to do with "hosting". SC do host the forums.

But the forums are hosted using off the shelf software - vBulletin. SC can only change things which that software allows to be configured.

And the version we are using is fairly old, which doesn't help matters.

Not just about it being old. They aren't developing that version beyond essential bug fixes any more, but even if they were, they would not be likely to make changes just for us. We are just one customer of theirs out of many thousands.

An indisputable fact is that the forums do get severely undermined and clearly the mods are not staffed heavily enough (and do I understand not getting paid anyhow?) to keep up with the traffic. No one is saying you guys are bad at your jobs, just that you are overwhelmed by the sheer volume and frequency of bad posts.

True. There are just too many bad posts to keep up with. In that case, staff might just have to resort to giving mod powers. The veteran forumers or super active forumers can be trusted. Many of us don't go outside the I+FR forum anyways. Thanks for all the support and commentary, everyone!

I stand behind you but have no idea what could be done. Also, those stickies in IFR and NTSI subforums are stupid/unclear, those could use a change - 1 only sticky with ruled out, 1 only with commonly suggested. For the second subforum it would be 1 ultimate how to thread instead of 3. That could be done but would solve only very very small issues.

I haven't stated "we are out of our depth" or anything similar at all. I was referring only to the statements made by one particular poster with that statement, and only to his knowledge of what he was asking for. The things he was suggesting, while intended to be helpful, just showed he didn't understand the relationship between SC and the forum software.

But as for what we can do - well first we have to decide whether something really needs doing, which actually when referring specifically to the Clash Royale Ideas and Feature Requests forum, I'm not convinced is the case. In Clash Royale, the General Discussion and Card Balance forums take way more of our time than IFR.

It is not a lack of mods that causes the perceived problems there, it is the fact that there are what the veterans there see as a lot of posts which they think are worthless, which drown out the worthy posts. There aren't all that many of those posts which actually break forum rules though.

There are things which could be done which would reduce that, but mostly at the expense of creating other problems - if we set it so only people with at least 10 posts could make a thread in that forum, then they would just make them elsewhere for instance (which they do often enough anyhow).

I understand the frustration of people like you and the OP and various others, but I am not convinced that significant changes should be made. Possibly some special rules for that forum (and the other IFR forums), and then those rules could be enforced by mods. But even that would need a lot of thought to avoid overly restricting posts while providing some benefit.

Understood the OP spoke fron the CR IFR but I think its been clear in this thread that the posters expanded this early on to include all IFR forums and thats what people here are discussing.

Take it from guys that spend a lot of their time sayimg 'ruled out sorry' over and over the the same ruled out ideas that there are in fact a lot of posts that break forum rules that drown out the rest. Also these same folks are familiar enough with the ruled out list to know that it does have upkeep issues that make it hard to use and hard to trust.. Guys are throwing its lack of credibility in our faces all the time. There is also the guys that start multiple threads for the same issue over and over.

The mods are not around IFR enough to help (and to your explanation because other forums demand your time) is why all this is getting raised to you. To get a response that attempts to downplay/deny the problem we are collectively trying to raise is frustrating indeed. we dont want to be worded into thinking we are not seeing it, we ask for a solution. A little more than in IFR, mainly through excessive bumping, duplicate threads, or hijacking other's recruitment threads.

Not as much as in General.

And those are true for each game area except Hayday, where it is the forum which needs the most policing.

It is certainly not well defined, and I am not sure it is really a problem to more than a few people.

Yes, fair enough. I do think it is much more of an issue in CoC than in CR, and it really isn't an issue at all in the other two.

Most of the mod action in those forums is deleting threads asking for ruled out ideas. I know they exist. But based on the number of reports we get, I doubt they can really be described as drowning out the rest, or maybe they just aren't getting reported.

If they aren't getting reported, then it again shows it is only a few people who are bothered by it. Though that is no reason not to deal with them.

I just went and checked, and it seems people aren't reporting them, they are just responding. Out of 20 threads on the front page in the CoC IFR, 7 are ruled out (including flag requests). Rather than responding to the threads, report them.

That wasn't what I said at all. It is not because other forums demand our time, it is because the IFR ones don't.

A large majority of what we do as mods is in response to reports, there is no policy that we read all the threads, or even visit all the forums, so what we come across ourselves is very limited.But ALL reports are read, and an active decision is taken on every reported post.

This applies to all the forums, and the reason we spend more time on the other forums is that we get more reports from them. But it is not the case that time we spend on other forums prevents us spending time on the IFR forums.

The biggest thing that can be done is REPORT. Ruled out ideas that are reported will be deleted, normally within a few hours, often within minutes at the times of day the mods are most active.

No, I meant that within the Hay Day area, the recruitment forum is the one which needs the most policing.

Overall Hay Day needs very little

IMO CR idea and feature req is way better and neater. Look at COC. I just saw COC. It was so inactive.

Hold one, one of the mods once said me when I was asking about the reports, that what should I do, I will do this definitely now and it should be able to clear IFR a lot:

Report 1 thread for being ruled out or something similar and then link every other thread you can find which is also ruled out.

My only problem with reporting was, that I cant make threads after 5 reports, thats the main thing why I stopped

That is a good idea. It will be easier for us to process, and will also mean fewer threads created by you, so win-win.

I have an idea too. Why not make an active IFR Forumer make a thread and sticky it. The thread will contain a list of all ruled out ideas posted today. Then mods can just see the thread and clear out all ruled-out ideas

so the theme I am getting here is that you need people to be more avtive with the reporting. But then can we ask that the restrictions on reporting be lifted? Currently there is a time limit between reports (which is tough when you log in and right away see 5 threads that need reporting) and also I believe we get ourselves penalized or restricted for reporting too much. This makes for a mixed message. If the solution is for people to handle all these things by reporting then can they adjust out the things that are there to discourage too much reporting? (Suggested, shorten the cooldown time considerably and eliminate any restrictions or penalties)

Just copy the link from the threads that are ruled out and link the threads in the report. When I see those spam threads I cent report all of them, so I say Spam. 6 of these in x subforum

Good point. The main reason I stopped is because I got tired of reporting. I got a bit burned out and don't have time to report the one sentence threads and/or ruled out ideas. It is good to know that action is being taken on every reported thread. In fact, I'm going to make a thread in I+FR right now with this explanation and ask someone to pin it, so that we remember or realize what to do if we see a thread like this.

Or, we can just let an active IFR forumer make a thread and make a mod pin it. That thread will contain a list of all ruled-out ideas posted today. Then a mod can just clear ruled-out ideas by seeing that thread

Or you can report one ruled out thread with all these links, its the same, only this one is invisible for us.

Although, I like the idea - 1 thread stickied at the top with anyone able to reply. Only restriction is to send ruled out links to some threads. If mod goes to this thread and delete that ruled out idea, he would also delete the reply with the link. BUT there must be some kind of thing, like only forumers with x+ posts can make ruled out link replies, so there wont be mess in that thread. Nothing else than link permitted. Good one

Why not make the OP analyze the replies and then add them to the main thread. And mods will only delete the ideas posted in the main thread

Could be, but that would require a special badge for the OP.er, noone would do this for free :D

Also, if we got to the ruled out ideas, I would suggest this: Noone should be replying to ruled out ideas that they are ruled out. That means, that if we get that ruled out special sticky, we might just reply there, not to the actual thread.

When we got to the sticky rework, I also suggest, that in CoC, the ruled out ideas would have their own sticky - with those links to ruled out threads currently out there. Then there would be one sticky with commonly suggested, taken into consideration and also the list of ideas that made it to game (this would be second sticky.)
If we want to keep the third sticky with How to post manual, it would use some rework with links to Troop and spells manual stickies. These could be merged (also reworked) to 1 sticky in NTSI subforum, so there would be 1 super How to post sticky in NTSI subforum, not 3 of them.

Hope I made myself clear, if anything needs explanation, feel free to ask (obviously)
