Nice job with the walls, I don't have much time per day so I actually only raid about twice a day now. I was a maxed TH7 and now a month-old TH8. I have AT lvl 9, same with cannons, teslas (2 lvl 4 and the other upgrading to 4), mortar 6, wiz tow 6, so on, but my walls are still lvl 7 (200-ish) and 6...
Defenses are important, if you're not going to play too much, max them.
Otherwise, if you play like crazy, probably going TH9 is a good idea.

I made a review of status of my base and calculated how much time still left till I max everything. It helped me reach a decision.
Defense buildings: 225 days
Army barracks: 18 days
Collectors: 84 days
Lab upgrades (elixir troops): 77 days
Lab upgrades (DE troops): 104 days
I have 5 builders and this is my plan (at least till now):
Assign 1 builder to max my barrack. Thought it would be a good idea to do it now that I don’t need to raid often. That would be 18 days.
Assign the remaining 4 builders to upgrade defenses. That would be around 56 days, 60 or more if I take into consideration time builder will be idle (overnight).
IT is clear that the bottleneck is in lab upgrades. I will skip some of the upgrades (healing spell and valkyria). That would cut the lab upgrades time by 54 days.
I have decided to stay on TH until I have maxed all defenses, i.e. 2 more months and then I will upgrade. If I have any gems to spend during this time I will speed up lab upgrades.
Once all defenses are maxed, I will upgrade even if lab is not maxed and collectors are not either (who cares about collectors anyway).
This thread made me redo my th8 upgrade priorities and order, thanks for sharing. Especially the no no to walls rush, happened to me while upgrading to th8, spent four days clicking mines. You never mentioned Dark Barracks, i would upgrade'em too, you don't want to gimp your farming power with reduced th9 loot.
My dark barracks are maxed.
The reason why I have this problem now, I think, is that I was a very very very premature TH8. I basically rushed from TH5 to TH8 in a matter of few days. By rush I mean simply buying the new buildings, start new TH upgrade, gem it, build new buildings for the new TH, start TH upgrade, gem it again and repeat again. So, as you can imagine, I was TH8 with TH 4-5 level of defenses, walls and troops (my highest troops were level 3 only).
Then I started to read on this forum (searching for a base design) and learned my mistake. Since then I have had a lot of catch up to do.
My walls are maxed simply because I have been farming a lot. I have never left a builder free. Was upgrading wall using only extra gold after having started upgrades for each day.
Luckily you stopped at th8, i think it's the last point to catch up without tons of frustration. TH9 is too late imho. You show good attitude, no SC blaming and all that forum whine. I'm sure you will be a successfull th9 and further :)
Good stuff, looks like you're thinking it through well, and you can always change your mind later...
My only suggestion is this - do whatever is most fun for you! If you love farming: keep plugging away at maxing those defenses and what troops you can, heck it's only another couple of months and you must have been farming for way longer than that by now I'd guess. If you yearn for a change of pace: push some more trophies, brew bigger and more expensive armies, and generally get your raid on!
Personally, I realised a few weeks ago, that I would max my base (excluding some walls), way before I got all the troops upgrades done that I wanted... so I started to push trophies and complete my base upgrades at a slightly slower pace, allowing the troops upgrades to catch up, and most importantly allow me to keep having fun as endless farming isn't for me... But to each, his (or her) own...
