I sent tom away by clicking 'none of them' in the past he has rested for 2 minutes then come back, but today he went to sleep for two hours. Is the a new feature. If so i don't like it or could it be a glitch. Has anyone else experienced this.

It's a glitch. The good news is that the "fix" that will be in place until the next update is that Tom will automatically offer you 9 of the item you asked for. Unless you change your mind and decide that you want to send him for something different, you shouldn't need to choose "none of the above". You should always get an offer of the max number of items. SC knows about it, but it isn't something that can be fixed with just maintenance.
Thanks for this info MiniGardener. I saw that there had been a glitch, but since I wasn't using Tom at the time I didn't bother to see "how" it was fixed. Good to know, in case I use one of the Tom cards I will get this week from the derby.
And I agree, I think Tom should always offer a maximum. I would take it even if I don't have the space in the barn. I got so mad once with Tom offering 7 of an item, I kept sending him back for 45 minutes (it was just my frustration), and then made him wait on the road with said item until it was ready for him to run again. I wasn't going to let him nap after what he put me thru.
I know what you mean, Momscar! Some time ago, I came to the conclusion that unless I really immediately needed more than the number Tom first offered me, I would just go ahead and take whatever the first offer was. I got tired of forgetting to go back and send him again. I rarely hire him and would forget that he was on the clock.
I think that since the team will be working on Tom's coding for the next update we really ought to get all our Tom wishes out there. Besides having the info for how long remains on my hiring time visible along with the remaining napping time, I'd love to see some clue to distinguish between his usual "hire me" gyrations and his "I'm ready for a task" act.
I accidentally clicked the wrong item I needed and when I clicked none of these , he's now sleeping for two hours not minutes! Not fixed!
Unfortunately this cannot be fixed until the next mandatory update. So as a workaround until then he will always bring back a 9 offer as well. The disadvantage in that is that one has to be careful and not send him for the "wrong" item and that one doesn't change his/her mind half way through an errand.
On the bright side he will always bring back 9 as an offer as well so none of this 7-7-8-7-7-8-8.... and 2 minute naps until he brings the 9 you want.
Nick,
It be really amoooozing if he always brought 9 permanently. :D
