Then report it to a mod and they will deal with it.

Since this thread was resurrected 4 hours ago after 4 days, I get the feeling that many of the responders feel that the removal of the down vote has encouraged more toxic postings.
IMHO I have not seen it although one thread was closed 4 days ago because it turned sour after 2 days and 140 post.
If you have a real reason to believe that a downvote was against the rules then you should be reporting it to a mod and not be making off topic posts about it.
Downvoting someone for them hijacking a thread to complain about being downvoted is not an abuse of the system BTW. I haven't done it but can see why others would.
I'm really not seeing much value added to the Forums with the FRS, with or without the down votes, but it is of even less utility without the ability to down vote.
Any abuses of either up or down voting have been primarily a popularity contest, with little regard for the ideas or issues being discussed.
The truly toxic and malicious indidividuals are already being removed in a timely manner.
I'm not sure which thread your referencing but I can think of an anti engineering thread that was created & closed, same day, two days ago and I'm sure FRS in any form would had no effect on the outcome of that one. So perhaps there's no correlation or perhaps there is. Either way there's little point in having half of FRS without the other half... unless you're one of those people who refuses to down vote anything. :smirk:
And, yet, after 30 days of trying it out, the downvote wasn't a big problem like some feared, perhaps due to it not being anonymous to or perhaps due to the thread of a mod taking action for abusing the downvote. Either way, it proved to NOT be a problem that some have predicted it would be.
Good that someone necroed this, I had missed it.
Imho, a good attempt, but not really making a difference.
Someone (tiler, smael?) proposed a like/dislike feature, that would be nicer way to sort threads.
Anyway, reputation or similar should show on thread list in each forum, that'd help filter out the threads a bit more.
Let's see what comes out.
PS: the threshold for getting one more "green" mark is maybe too high.
I never gave a downvote. The only thing I really want to downvote are the guys that post thirty times a day about things being in the wrong subforum.
I have seen plenty and so have others it seems. I won't give instances as that wouldn't be a wise move (likely to pull this off topic if anyone named sees this and knee jerks back) but suffice to describe some unhelpful posts as basically saying things like "sucks to be you then", "so get good", "if you can't beat it join it, loser/fool", "fresh spawn you posted in the wrong place plus it is a dumb idea we heard 500 times before" and so on, skating just inside the lines of being reportable.
It was seeing a large increase in stuff like that which got me to revive the thread, after experiencing the first days of the change we are now able to reflect (so not a necro, a genuine addition in light of further relevant experiences people can now add that couldn't yet be added 4 days back).
