Highest Trophies Without Gemming

Hey guys, so once I max out a TH lvl 8 base I was planning on spicying (is that a word) my game up a little bit seeming how I've never in my CoC career gone for trophies. I'm not able to buy gems very often I bet I could buy like maybe the 500 pack once a decade maybe... And I was wondering what is the highest trophy (or cup) level you guys have gotten to without buying gems regularly? Buying gems for you builders and maybe a little after that, but not over maybe 50 bucks? I just want to know how much someone has actually gotten without gemming. Or I could sum it up to this question: at what point do you have to start gemming? But hey I like to type.

I've spent $10.00 CAD for my fourth builder.. And the highest I reached was 2421 trophies... But I was not getting free shields.

Yeah I'm curious about this too. What's the highest trophy count you can possibly maintain if you don't gem? At what point do basic troops become useless and we have to start using pekka / dragon armies?

My friend reached 2590 without gemming 200 archers.

200 archers??

An old friend of mine, never spent anything on the game, made it all the way up to 2,000 trophs with TH7.
