I used to play hay day back before neighbour hood and events existed. I've played all SC games, and this was the first followed by COC, boom and CR. I only play CR now, but I would like to play Hay Day again. Any tips? Also how long would it take to get to level 18 if I play for 15-30 minutes a day? Are diamond purchases worth it?

And the common one that comes for new players, if you find yourself unlocking a lot of machines you cannot afford, then temporarily stop doing trucks & boats - and instead sell anything you can at max price via your road side stall.
Road Side Stall at max price offers the best price for all items [except Jewellery later in the game] and no XP gain which can help you restore your ability to buy what you unlock.

Diamonds are good to buy, particularly for increasing slots on some machines so that they continue working while you are offline. The dairy and sugar mill are good ones to keep running, as you can never get enough sugar, creamy or cheese.
Be aware, though, that if you receive movie tickets which give a diamond and (usually) three other gifts a day, that is likely to cease the first time you buy diamonds. You may continue to get two "daily rewards" a day, but I have never received a diamond that way.

The way the game is currently designed you will only get to buy a discounted package that cheap once, next discounted package will be around $10. Not sure if you would want to spend that much, but even if that is your one and only purchase it's a good offer.
And as Cowslips said when you buy you don't have to watch movies anymore [you can watch up to 4 for 4 items daily if you never purchase], instead you just get 2 free items a day from the movie tickets without watching the movies. Personally I don't like watching movies so I prefer it that way.

To address your question about how long it would take to get to a certain level, please remember that unlike many games where the goal is to level up a quickly as you can, HayDay is a game of resource management. With each level there will be new products and production machines to make and purchase. Many of us get to the point where we simply do not have enough coins to buy the next needed machines. As soon as the machine is available for you to purchase boats, trucks and visitors will start asking for the products those machines produce. This can be very frustrating, and has been the reason many people give up at this game.Quote:
