Gmail email addresses not appearing in clan chat

Hi There,

I've done some searching, but can't find any mention of this.

With our clan, we use GroupMe for external communication. For anyone not familiar with this chat program, in order to add a person to our group, we need the email address the user used when signing up for the account.

We obtain the email address through in-game clan chat (yes, we have a second way via our forum post where they can join a recruitment group and we add them there - this is if people don't want to give us their email address in-game).

HERE'S THE POINT OF THE POST

What we've found is that sometimes the email address doesn't appear in the chat - it gets omitted.

We'll be asking the new person for the email address, and they'll say "I just typed it". But when we scroll up, there's been nothing in chat related to an email. People have actually kept screenshots of them typing their email address and showed us later.

To get around this, we ask the person to type their email address and substitute the "@" sign with "at" - ex: "johnsmith at gmail.com"

This only seems to happen with actual "gmail" email addresses. hotmail, msn, or any other email address seems to be fine.

Anyone else have this issue?

Never heard of this in game before, or event tried it, and honestly haven't looked if this was reported.

I only know, that even in a clan, it is not recommended to share real private information, just an advice which is clearly posted at start of any global chat. In same respect, a clan chat, as any other public chat area is not restrictive to its members only (anyone can screenshot/record and share), hence a report function has been added too (which I still don't see the need, but can understand the legal aspects). Remember that all chat communications in game are safeguarded on the servers, for eventual future review.

Why: Life changes, and sometimes sharing information beyond virtual (using avatars instead of real name/info) chat groups can become cumbersome.

Yep, totally get it. Most people create a random hotmail or gmail account strictly for the purpose of gaming. When people express an issue, we always discuss the secondary method - we even have a note about in in our clan description.

Having external communication is very useful for us - other clans are using discord, kik, wechat, and even facebook (not my personal favorite heh). But for war coordination, it's really helped us to map out attacks etc.

Have just tried and can confirm that this happens.

I tried a.spamcatcher@gmail.com and the same prefix @hotmail.com.

Both addresses appeared in clan chat for the account that I sent them from. Looking at the same clan chat with my mini account on a separate device only the hotmail address appeared.

Perfect, thanks for confirming (at least it's not just me lol).

With the increasing number of compromised accounts they try to make it harder for people to share their email address. They should make it more hard by omitting every workaround.

you can't share any personal info of yours .

Solution:
just turn off you clan chat filtering from setting :)

can you plz check the setting in your mini? i think filtering is on there (same as mine) :cool:

Nope, filters are off on both my accounts, always have been apart from for testing sessions to see whether you can say "flatulence", etc. Mature, huh?

The missus also has filters turned off and couldn't see the Gmail address.

i've tested the same addresses "a.spamcatcher@gmail.com & a.spamcatcher@hotmail.com" and they showed up in 4 accounts of mine :)
