I have to say I am rapidly losing interest. I buy diamonds regularly to enhance the play but go into the paper to find nothng but "eggs". I feel the balance of the game needs to be addressed.

The newspaper contains what farmers advertise. The influx off any item or any items fluctuates with the helpers, certain events and farmers attempts at machine mastery.
I remember as a rookie farmer marvelling at all of the bacon and eggs, but then that was one of the first things I could produce!
There will always be SOMETHING dominating the DD - when I started it was B&E, blue sweaters, and red berry cakes! Now it's eggs. Last year it was red hats and tofu dogs. There's always something :)
I buy A LOT of eggs, and I am always surprised to find some expansion materials or a premium item mixed in.
It's supply vs demand. Ever since Rose got introduced farmers have been producing more eggs than they can consume.
Like Perky said, if it wasn't Eggs dominating, it would just be something else like Wheat etc.
Cloche hats are about as plentiful in the paper as eggs. I only make the hats to keep a supply in my barn, don't even bother trying to sell any.
The upside to this is that there are items that are generally always available in the DD.
So that if you want you can choose not to bother with making chicken feed because eggs are so readily available. You can choose to grow crops that take longer because wheat is always available.
Indigo, red hats, tofu dogs. Always available. Even wool and goat milk.
And focus on making and growing items that are not commonly sold.
I have a very low shopping threshold too but I recognize that the paper is what it is and play accordingly.
I don't grow pumpkins, peppers or strawberries because I know I can find them in the paper easily enough.
I click on those egg ads because folks are hiding good stuff behind eggs, hoping their ads will stay in the paper longer - ESPECIALLY folks who need help with trees or a boat :)
I find I often buy eggs when I'm doing a lot of cooking. So I love when they can be easily found. When I have too many eggs and the barn is overflowing, I put them up for sale, usually at default, to make enough space to wake the pets and collect their drops.
My chickens sat hungry for 2 years so i cant complain over eggs lol
.....and today when I needed eggs in a hurry and there were no eggs in the paper😱😂. Later on there were lots. LOL.😂😂
It's always the way isn't it! Earlier I needed a heap of Chili Popcorn for a boat...check through next two papers. Cannot find single one. Finally landed some in the third.
And as others said, just take advantage of the surpluses available in the paper to run your farm more efficiently. :)
Yep, I needed bacon & eggs and wooly chaps yesterday and couldn't find any. :D
I don't mind the eggs at all. I don't produce any eggs by myself and I only buy them form the daily dirt :)
I regard it as 'Hay Day Law' that whatever I need in a hurry will not be in the DD🤔🤔😂😂
Luckily friends RSS are usually helpful😀
I'm all about the eggs. It's the one and only thing I don't produce and pretty much my sole reason to visit the paper. And regularly (like 20% of the time) I find none.
I also agree with others that regularly there's nice stuff behind egg ads. Unlike red hat ads which mostly have tofu dogs behind them (or vice versa.)
Anybody else notice that during this 2xp truck event that the eggs (that I NEED!) are gone? What is the replacement? 36 coin wheat!! LOL
I'm past ready for the truck event to be over. I need 400 eggs at least to replenish what I sent off, so y'all farmers get cracking!! Lol
O, happy day!! I just bought 120 eggs out of ONE edition of the DD :) woo hooo!!! :) :) :)
MY takeaways are:
(1) I prefer that eggs dominate the paper over 36 coin wheat and
(2) If farmers sell a lot of premium items in their shops, it's because they WANT to, not necessarily because they NEED to. Some want coins, some want to treat others, some want the game reputation of a good shop (see related: why do people leave their shop bins greyed out with the awesome things they sold), etc.
In the last event farmers were making and buying and dumping all their premium stock on the trucks -- I know I was. I sent off trucks worth about 900K XP, and my barn is both EMPTY and DESTROYED!! LOL! This left the paper more devoid than normal of ANYTHING that was NOT full-price wheat, as farmers used everything their farms could produce + anything they could find to buy in a sea of wheat + presumably anything they could get from their neighbors. Our dusty and neglected bird box got VERY busy this weekend.
(3) So -- the issue with eggs (or wheat or B&E or red hats) choking the paper therefore is NOT one of an imbalance of supply and demand. No one grows a lot of wheat just for sale. There are MUCH better reasons to grow a lot of wheat (farming drops, zen play, XP, etc). The imbalance in the paper is due to farmers serving their OWN production needs. Farmers are NOT responding to demand for premiums from other farmers by increasing their production and the supply of those high-demand items.
This is definitely not scientific, but an anecdotal observation I've noticed over the past several days is that the visitors are much less like to ask for the highest crop item (wheat in my case) than they have been in the past.
On my farms, the visitors frequently now request the 2nd or 3rd highest item, and it seems to take a lot more rejections to get them to ask for wheat. Just wondering if this may be another contributing factor to the glut of 36-coin wheat lately.
That's an interesting observation - but since my visitors have been held hostage since the end of the last visitor event, I can't comment!! LOL
Still, I wonder about all the full price wheat. When my vis don't cooperate, I dump all my extra wheat in my shop for 10 coins, where it goes in a FLASH!
Was just doing an egg task and resisted the urge to try sell them in the paper.
Eventually the visitors wanted them at effectively 140 per 10 eggs. Sold 70+ in one sale which was nice.
That's decent, better then waiting for slow egg sales and putting them up 10 at a time. That's just painful! And others will appreciate one less egg ad in the paper.
On my farm they seem to be pretty erratic. Have had Tilley waiting by my front door for popsicles since the last Visitor Event. So now getting only requests for silo items.
Wheat is almost always my highest crop.
Sometimes they ask for wheat 4 times in a row, then ask for something different for the next 4 to 6 times.
I have sold full price wheat in the paper at times when it was full of eggs and very little wheat.
But almost never sell eggs. I only buy them during Visitor events but I generally need all the eggs my little chickies can pop out.
