It was designed to be a popularity contest and it works well for that. So well in fact that it has been modified to stop people from using it too much on the same people. If it were designed as a "post" commenting system, then the little green and red boxes would have been designed to have appeared on posts and not the forum members.


The complexity of doing a poll goes to show that there were probably ways of designing a board that would have allowed for rate quoting any given post and commenting under the quote one agreed with, disagreed with, thought was funny...etc. So many colors - so many emoties could have been selected options one could have used to quote and rate a post and not the poster.


Pretending this popularity contest isn't a popularity contest is unwise. It is "putting lipstick on pigs."

I wanted to upvote some folks in here cuz they made some excellent points but I have to spread some love or hate around just so I can upvote them again. So I guess I'll have to vote any regular post just to get back to that person I really wanted to upvote in the first place. Defeats the purpose. Makes no sense.

I think the main reason for ‘lurkers’ like me to post only occasionally is that the game is already somewhat older and most of the questions can easily be answered with the help of the ‘search’ function. The few remaining questions that I posted here, mainly about the new friend book, were perfectly and elaborately answered by the community.

At this point, thank you very much to all the enthusiastic and helpful forumers, present and past, who prevented me from stopping the game at level 18! :o
