Haha, this is one of the very rare occasions in my life where I'm happy to be dragged into something (just not by the tail, please). :D
But seeing this has come up, I also agree with the questions about neutrals - what is the point in giving members with fewer than 50 posts voting power at all if it shows as a neutral? I've received one - it has since dropped off my reputation tab, but from memory there was no comment attached, so I assume it was a positive (negatives have to have a comment, right?), but it seems an exercise in futility both for the voters and the recipients. Is it a technical thing?
I don't necessarily agree that the forum is highly censored, but I do agree that - in the past - some oppressive bundles of narcissism were allowed to trample and bully newer forumers without any visible check on their toxicity. I wonder if we're talking about the same people though. Probably not. :smirk:XD
As for niceness, now that I think of it, perhaps that's a difficult, amorphous quality to strive for. Here are some of the attributes that I hope for and value when it comes to the forum: fairness, decency, kindness, humor, empathy, openness, tolerance, respect.
I wish! We were informed about the reputation tab in this thread. I couldn't find it even after multiple visits to my profile page and had to post again asking "Where!? where?"
I can be so gullible at times. It's my seventeenth most persistent flaw. :smirk:
You are the best! And such a lovely person. I've already posted my views on the rep system in this thread but they're scattered, here are my thoughts in table format!
WHY? Positive Rep Points - keep but make anonymous Before I knew that we could identify who upvoted us, it was lovely not knowing. I felt a warm glow from and toward the entire forum. It could've been anyone who sent that private compliment, and it made me feel even more positive vibes toward everyone in the forum.
Also I'd prefer that forumers I upvote not know it's me. It's meant to be a purely positive gesture. I don't want to create a possible sense of obligation that they have to upvote me in return. (They absolutely don't.)Negative Rep Points - disable/eliminate Punishment is not as effective as positive reinforcement. It's hurtful and breeds aggression. If negative rep points are kept, then please do not make them anonymous. Right now, I think there's a curb on downvoting, because people are afraid to be outted as downvoters. Sometimes, fear is good. Fear can keep a forum free of undercover drama trolls. If people really feel the need to downvote, then they should be willing to put their forum name behind it.
Glad to hear it! :D Didn't mean to speak for you, CottonTail. :)
People might create alt accounts just to upvote themselves or their friends. Maybe that's just one of many misuses that a posting-minimum might restrain.
I also have couple of neutrals and wonder about the point?🤔🤔
ILHD your posts are always helpful and caring so thank you for posting here.
I think you found the right words because you spoke from your heart. Since I last posted in this thread a few days ago, I'm shell-shocked by the friendly fire which has transpired in the past 48 hours. And yes, while reading the posts, I'm wearing a helmet like the one in my avatar.
I think it's safe to emerge from my foxhole for now. :)
Indeed, if downvoting is retained for the FRS, I suggest the recipients of negative comments be allowed to see the identities of those who left them because it's the only check against those of us who need to exercise self-restraint. If we post negative comments, we should've the conviction to stand behind them instead of sending them anonymously, IMO.
Neutrals could mean someone upvoted or downvoted your posts. Since they wrote less than 50 posts in the forums, they won't be able to increase or decrease your reputation points. You know it's an upvote because they don't need to leave a comment. However, when you see comments, then it's a downvote because leaving comments is mandatory after clicking the Disapproval Button.
