It is not a forum that values free speech anymore. Forumers like myself have backed away from posting because of this- because we are not brave enough to resist. Haystacker is all about resistance. Even if he doesn't truly believe, he will play the devil's advocate to encourage discussion.
Sure, his post to Alex probably deserved a smack on the wrist with a wet bus ticket, (I did an eye roll myself when I read it), but then I totally see where he was coming from - a mod who never showed any interest in posting in this forum is suddenly all over this thread. I was also questioning Alex's presence and motives at he time, especially as none of our usual mods had a word to say. I can just see them sitting back and saying, "Hmmm, can of worms unleashed we have ... Not touching that with a barge pole." As this whole function seems to be solely designed to save them some work, I'm also not surprised that they feel that way. They probably thought we wouldn't mind them tossing a pseudo-mod function into the forum, but they have disturbed the thin oil of defensive niceness that has formed as a protective skin over this forum, and now all that pent up frustration is erupting.
Let's not start casting blame around at other formers. Haystacker didn't create this situation, he is just trying to protect us From something he doesn't see as acceptable, albeit in his own unique way. Let's all take a step back, breathe deeply and remember exactly what it is we are opposing here - a function that has the (proven, methinks) ability to set us at our own throats.
