I understand what you are hoping for but I have seen at least one totally idiotic and spiteful Downvote against a post (poster?) that never in a million years could have been deemed in the least offensive. This ability to do mischief will bring out the worst in some people. I hope that I'm wrong.

So is the overall benefit of this system for the Mods?

Because I still haven't figured out the benefits for the general forum community.

i need some clarification, please Alex :)

If this system is designed to cut down on the borderline posts reports mods get, does that mean that the mods are now encouraging forum members to police the posts and posters that tread the line? It was my understanding that mods always asked that the forumers here to leave the policing to the mods. Has that opinion among the moderators changed?

I always thought it was important to bring borderline offending posts that edge up to (but don't break) the rules to mod attention (with context) so that mods could be aware of a potentially problematic poster, and give those posts a little more attention. Is this unwelcome?

I have also seen situations where repeated reports of negative posting behavior that broke rules were ignored by mods over a long period of time. How would this system prevent that from happening, if we have to spread reputation around before downvoting the same poster again?

Will mods get a daily dashboard of down votes so they can spot trends? How will mods determine who is genuinely a problematic poster, and who is being ganged-up on for expressing a valid but unpopular view?

One benefit I see is giving lurkers and those who rarely post, the ability to play forum police and be judges to opinions other than their own. The "it's only a game, stop whining!" crowd will be in full force dishing out red cards like candy to opinionated members and there's nothing u can do about it. This system has too many holes to be beneficial to the general community.

Excellent point! Maybe this reputation system was installed with the aim of improving some of the busier sections of this forum beyond Hay Day? :confused:

We HayDayers see the issue through the filter of this subforum. But I get the impression that - whatever misgivings (if any) we may have about the Hay Day forum - it may be even wilder and weirder in yonder distant parts of forum[dot]supercell[dot]com. :p

Sadly, my earlier post gave too much credit to good intentions - it now seems that this new system is actually intended to give the judgemental amongst us the ability to become pseudo-mods, and anonymously smite those deemed unworthy in their subjective opinion with negative, hurtful comments ... just so those who chose to become official mods have less work to do. That is so unworthy.

What was that old adage about power corrupting? Did no one consider that and the frailty of a system that gives such power?

The above is new. Since the Mod Squad get so many reports where no violations have taken place, may I ask if the Mod Squad has mitigated the issue by reminding reporters like me of Rule#13? Thank you.

"13. Only report posts that you are sure violate forum rules or contain questionable content. Do not spam or overuse the report tool (what constitutes spam/overuse is up to interpretation of Moderators/Supercell employees) as this distracts from the productivity of our Moderators and employees and can result in a ban."

Well, this just gets more and more confusing. So now we're supposed to act like... I don't know, freelance mods?

The intentions and expectations seem to change on a daily basis. If the mods are too busy with too many frivolous reports, wouldn't it be better to put on a few more mods (I'm sure there would be volunteers) or clarify some of the rules regarding posts that are worthy of reporting? Couldn't the rules be made clearer on the "report post" form, maybe even with a confirmation screen along the lines of "are you sure this report meets the guidelines"? Or serial reporters could simply be asked to tone it down. But I have a feeling a lot of this affects other parts of the forums (CoC etc.) far more than it does HayDay anyway. Maybe they need a downvoting system, but I'm still not convinced that we do here.
