This thread is asking for our ideas and what we think about it. I stand by what I said, people are more likely to report a bad reputation than compliment a good one, especially in such an obscure symbol at the bottom. Hence, internet trolls, excessive reporting, negative forums, and global bans. People love to hate on others more than they love to love. I think this will be abused because it will be much harder to get a "good reputation point" than a "bad reputation point".

I'll disagree with this.

I'm not known for being Mr. Sweetness and Light, some people find my posts and style abrasive, condescending, etc, etc. I have received exactly 1 negative rep point, despite me not having moderated the way I post in the slightest since the rep system introduction.

If it were as you say I would have received several times that amount as those seeking to downvote could easily make a plausible case for doing so.

The forum inhabitants are better than you give credit for.

Yes, I get on with you the least of anyone on the forums, and would love to downvote you. But i think like most forumers I try stay objective and to my horror, found myself upvoting a post of yours a few days ago.

Allthough I will say ive only seen the good version of Aspex since the new system, not sure i agree you have not amended your level of abrasionand consdescention, a least a little.

I really think there should be some kind of engieering Amnesty, the topic was so emotional nonone came through unscathed (except Aspex of course). Maybe in the interests of goodwill, they could set all infractions and warnings back to zero?

Positive rep should be given for posts that add value to the forum. Like the guy who posted the numbers for the balancing update. That deserves positive rep for taking the time to do it.

I agree many votes will be based on "I agree" or "I disagree" but I think the "I agree" will equal or outweigh the "I disagree" votes, assuming the posts are reasonable and respectful. If that proves to not be the case, then I would suggest adding a requirement of a certain number of positive votes for every negative.
